Alveolar bone is that part of maxilla and mandible which supports and protects teeth. Alveolar bone depends on the presence of teeth for its development and maintenence. Alveolar bone comprises of compact and cancellous bone.
Because once the tooth has erupted into position, the stimulus for coronal growth of alveolar bone is no longer there.. so in perio disease the alveolar bone does not regenerate
