AT 12: 09, I said ventilation is more at apex... here I mean in comparison to perfusion. ACtually ventilation is more at base and less at apex.

Wow thank you for the video ma'am... This is one topic where I always forget easily.... and everytime i read it i feels like i understood it but not actually

Mam , does V/Q ratio justify why TB patients more prone to infection of apex of lungs , that's a random question to my mind . Btw thanks for teaching wonderful concept 🫡🫡💯💯
@PhysiologyOpen
@PhysiologyOpen 9 месяцев назад
Yes it justifies…you might have seen in the video how apex alveoli po2 is high due to very less perfusion…TB bacillus is aerobic and so apex is affected much more

I like your video ,but ventilation concept is super confusing 🫤,I thought I understood it from the start that it’s more at the base until you introduced the partial pressures of 132 and 89 mmhg then you said the apex has more ventilation
@PhysiologyOpen

Apex has more expanded alveoli- but not ventilation
@PhysiologyOpen
@PhysiologyOpen 3 месяца назад
For ventilation air should move in and out- and not be there stagnant in more expanded alveoli- we want both expansion and recoil of alveoli
@wycliffenyandika9017
@wycliffenyandika9017 3 месяца назад
@@PhysiologyOpen so the stagnation is brought about by lack of perfusion?

Ventilation is less compared to base of lung. When compared to perfusion at apex, ventilation is more than perfusion…so whatever oxygen is there, it can’t diffuse also into the blood- causing high po2 at apex

Mam if less o2 diffuses in apex of the lung then pAO2 in apex must be more paO2 in apex must be less.How arterial paO2 is more in apex mam?
