On September 11, 1982, Ken Dooley, a Youth Development Center employee in Rome, Georgia, was shot at in his home by an unseen attacker. The following day, Dooley’s coworker, Linda Adair, was also attacked when someone threw a Molotov cocktail at her house in an attempt to kill her. Although neither Dooley nor Adair knew it at the time, these were the first attacks in the violent crime spree of Alvin and Judith Ann Neelley, a married couple whose brutality would shock in and around Georgia in the fall of 1982.
Thank you the the incredible Dave White of Bring Me The Axe Podcast for Research Assistance.

Thank you for covering this. I’m from the general area of Alabama where Lisa Ann Millican was murdered and these events loomed large in my childhood and teens. It was the first time I remember hearing of such inhumane things happening to a real person.

You nailed it at the end of part one. Hurt people hurt people. That's why I loved listening to y'all. I came from the attempts of parents trying to create a different family life. They succeeded on the attempts that I didn't come from parents, whom I would say hurt me. But I would say they left something that I think is still left out there to fix. Which is: my parents allowed people of a religious community brain washed me. Because they they themselves had no clue how to rasise a healthy family. It took me a long time to realize this. It seems to me to be a common theme in your take at these stories. I highly doubt the ignorant blissful childhood. I could say the same as well. I was a happy kid. But I too wanted something very different for my children. Little did I know it was me that needed to change not something outside of myself. Thank you ladies.

I appreciate the amount of research you conducted for the 2 podcasts. I also appreciate your making clear the abuse Alvin dealt his wives. I have known Judy for 39 years and have recently published my book, Redemption of a Murderer: the Life of Judy Neelley, that came from years and years of conversations, research, etc.--all with Judy fully onboard. Because of many myths of Judy and her ex-husband it is impossible to get all the facts. Alvin's first wife, JoAnn, was 19 when they met and Alvin was 21. It was Judy who was bedazzled by Alvin when she was 15 and he was nearly 26. Finally: I find the cursing very off-putting. It doesn't help the storytelling and cheapens what you say.

I love you guys, but as a native of Georgia none of the city names were pronounced how we pronounce them. My roommate and I looked at each other when you said Trion Georgia. Everyone that I know of pronounces it as Tri-on. Kind of like Try on. I'll update this comment the more I listen to help ya'll out lol. Ya'll did Ringgold dirty LMAO. We pronounce it phonetically. It's Ring-gold. You get a pass on Lafayette because honestly, I pronounce it that way periodically too, but people will look at you weird if you don't pronounce it Laf-eet or La-fay-et.

Awe boo who. I’m 5 minutes in and they aren’t laughing, and who cares if they’re swearing? They’re both adults and the topics they cover are awful. So I don’t really think their listeners care, I know I don’t give two fucks if they swear.
