Bear with me Warren, haven't worked on them since the mid 1990's, but back then I saw them almost daily, the ones I did work on were the TD25B's, C's and E's. They were still powered with the International 817 engines. But the machines you're working on look the same as previous series. The guy I worked with back then who really knew his stuff has been dead for over 20 years. Major steering adjustments were behind plugs above the final drives. Reach them from each side with at least a 2 or 3 foot long 1/2 in drive extension. I believe the adjusters were in the rear frame cover. A lot of steering issues could be traced to those adjustments, the G series may be different. Pulling the track frame is the easy part of doing the final drives. Remove the front track frame vertical guide, the rear cap on the outside of the track frame at the center of the final drive and the bolts holding the wishbone to the bearing in the center rear of the rear frame. Then lift and swing the track frame out. There is a big ass nut right behind the track frame that must be loosened with a, I believe, 8 point wrench. The wrench spans the sprocket, locks into two opposite sprocket teeth, and is driven by the sprocket to loosen the nut. There is a ring of dowel pins with internal threads that hold the center of the sprocket to the final drive output. Can't remember the size of the internal threads on those dowels but we'd thread rods into them and then pull them out with a 50 ton hollow bore porta power, a smaller porta power might have done it, but not much smaller. Maybe have some extra shorts in your truck, because the odd time those dowels may be galled in the holes, when the pull rod snaps and the porta power goes flying you might shit yourself. I think I had to use paper towel as underwear for the rest of the day when it first happened to me. After that they aren't too bad. When reassembling you want a young man running the sledge with a good aim and a pilot tool to drive those dowels back in, I was the young guy 30 years ago. That big nut is tightened again using the power of the machine. Don't quote me on the specs, but it was something like 2nd gear and 800 engine RPM and let her tighten until the convertor stalled. If you need any parts or service info call Brown International Services in Armstrong BC. I tried to post a link but its not working, just google them. We've dealt with them when needed for over 30 years and they know their shit when it comes to Internationals/Dressers. They will point you in the right direction on the steering issues, parts, and most anything else you need to know.

@Joe Robinsin it think though, it's not the kids Mr Warren is concerned for (although I don't doubt he cares), but more likely youtube/google and the crap stipulations they have for advertising revenue/monetisation. Crazy really since any good mechanic/technician/whatever badge they care to wear, can cuss and blaspheme to make a sailor blush & the companies supplying them know this too and shouldn't care. It's all about "looking professional" IMO but the experience I have is the less professional a guy looks/acts, he's usually good at the job & doesn't feel the need to conform to a look whereas the ones with all the fresh overalls/bitchmitts/shiny totectors and the slick talk are the shysters ripping folk off or doing shit work.

There are no steering clutches in the td25. it is a planetary gear set on each side. The idea was to give drive to both tracks while making a slow turn. It also allowed you to doze on a slope with out switching the drive on one track off with the steering clutch to stay straight. It is a complex system that uses some high high pressures. understanding it before tearing into it is strongly advised. Be careful Warren and good luck.

I love my TD25 dozers They were ahead of everyone else on their transmissions and steering. The steering is done with nitrogen charged accumulators. My brother was a field mechanic for our local Case International dealer here in Idaho falls and they worked on these a lot since the TD25 was originally international. His boss is highly knowledgeable on these if you ever have any questions he's the guy to go to. If you want his name give me your email and I'll give it to you.

Interesting.They use nitrogen in the accumulators because air would allow big booms to happen, right?
@clydeacor1911

@@ronchappel4812 with regular air pressure changes with temperature and regular compressed air contains a lot of moisture where nitrogen maintains constant pressure when temperatures fluctuate and nitrogen doesn't contain any moisture (condensation). @@ronchappel4812 no not for the hydraulics for the blade or rippers. @clydeacor1911
@clydeacor1911 4 года назад
@@ronchappel4812 If I'm remembering right you have the transmission and it's fluid that operates the transmission then there's a small reservoir of oil that feeds another pump which goes to the accumulators that operates the steering clutches that controls the high and low speeds of the planetary gears. There are 2 huge disc brakes under mainframe cover that brake the planet carrier or the ring gear to give 2 speeds. usual problems are the very high pressure brake pistons leaking and or the brake pads worn out. unfortunately the cab and fuel tank have to be completely removed to get to the cover and it is a monster.

Hi Warren, We have run Dresser TD 15E, and TD20E, for over 20 years. Usually the finals R good if there is no metal fillings when U pull the plugs. We have never had an issue with the 2 speed steering system. There is a Dresser expert, salvage guy, Collins Equipment, from Dresden Tennesse. We have sourced parts, advice, and info from him. Not sure if he wrenched on the TD 25 a lot.

We have a dresser loader. Idk the year and the hr meter has been changed so no idea of hrs just that it has alot. That thing is the most bulletproof thing I have ever seen. The engine has had an engine oil line snatched loose and ran until it locked down, or whatever you would call it. It shut off kinda like it had ran out of fuel. They fixed the line the next day, filled it up w oil and it fired right up. Has done the same thing w water twice. Fortunately I have never been on it when any water or oil lines have been ripped off. It stays in the woods clea ring for 95 percent of the time, has skidder tires on it. The rear end has broke loose from it and tried to walk on up under the loader.that wasn't fixed back right, our local welding shop fixed all of that back best he could. I am always on the trackhoe thank goodness when these things happen to it but it has been severely rode hard and put up wet. I doubt any tank ever made by any military has anything on this loader. It has been thru way more than any piece of equipment I have ever seen ever, it has weird hydraulic and fuel caps that are hard to find to replace and spent prolly 2 yrs or so wo a fuel cap on it. I would try to rig something up on it and they would tear it all apart within a day or so. Right now you can go get on it and it will fire up and carry you wherever you need to go. I don't see how it's still going.

In the 70s, Dresser bought Marion Power Shovels, which had bought up Galion (and Allis of Brazil). Allis de Brazil was renamed Galion, and all the products were eventually Drasser-Galion. Then oil went sour in the 80s, and Dresser wound up part of Slumberger. The oil biz parts of that were taken up by Haliburton; the machinery and equipment divisions wound up being boughtby all sorts of companies.

Yes they are a hot rod. I worked in a surface mine with over 12 D 9"s and we couldn't keep the Dresser in the pits. They liked the shop too much, so they were done away with. Hard to work on and parts were hard to get.

Those inspections are pretty serious they don't want people to be in danger in the middle of a bad situation fighting fires. I have fought close to 50 over the last 7 years. I had to take the communication guys up to the antenna because they helicopters didn't have a safe place to land and in the process of going up the trail and damaged 2 wheels and tires and the mechanics went over everything after we got back from the antenna they replaced the 2 wheels and put brand new tires on my truck and they told me that was the reason why they inspect everything that comes to work wildfires. That was my first wildfire and the first time getting hit by a drunk driver that broke 6 in my neck and 15 in my back didn't effect me from working

Just saw the earlier video of Ford service truck blowing the 8th cylinder. Now I see the swapping of parts on the dozers. Hell, you can't be painted into a corner.

When I worked for the City we had a Dozer that had the same problem as your Dozer and what they did was weld hardened steel bars on to the worn tracks

I think he said there were more problems with the undercarrage. We did that to a Deere 450 one time and they outlasted the rest of the undercarrage.......

This is a piece of cake for a spanner man like you Warren. Some of these owners just run them their machines into the ground instead of getting them serviced regular. Look after your machines and they look after you.

From what I know , dresser is international . I never worked on these dozer before. But international , fiatallis(allis chalmers) , Terex , komatsu dozer are very good dozer . Much better than cat dozer.

FP Smith equipment in Cordelia / Fairfield ca. is a Dresser specialist. Ask for Pete Smith ( Piggy) . You might know him already. Ships around the world. Apparently largest independent equipment parts dealer in world. Wealth of knowledge. Has vintage Cat, International, Hough, Dresser. That two speed track set up works well on slopes. My two bits. Great job on the Channel. Dresser was the only factory in Poland to the Germans didn't bomb. Built Panzersthere. Adios!

A good helper is better than a third hand if he does nothing more than get tools and fetch stuff. Without him you make 329 trips back to the toolbox every day. Up and down and it gets harder every year. I share your frustration with the old equipment since almost all of my stuff is old and orphans.
