Windows Phone is fantastic. Seeing it in motion makes you understand that these tiles serve a purpose. It is a function-based OS, both the design and functionality goes throughout all apps. Once you realize what this means in practice you simply can't go back to Android/iOS. Like Windows for PC, Android and iOS are just launchers to run isolated applications. Windows Phone is so much more, add the speed and (power-)efficiency of the OS and it just offers an unrivaled experience.
This phone went through more severe challenges than every other phone before. It got put in 200 degrees in the freaking oven, dropped off the top of a moving car, twice, freaking drove a nail into wood, and didn't get a chance to dry off. "I kept it in the bag for the last... 20 minutes..." -__-
Let me add that on the water test, Nokia lumia take the plunge on the actual pool so obviously the pressure of water is a lot lot higher compared to a small bowl of water with S3 and iPhone. Again pretty much of a fair iCNET torture test! iCNET the imedia partner!
If you know your phone is not watertight and it gets wet, then: 1. DO NOT, I repeat, DO NOT attempt to turn it on! It's almost guaranteed to fry if you do 2. disconnect the power source - battery. Too bad some phones have built in battery 3. let it dry at least 24 hours, if possible, covers open 4. then and only then try to turn it on In case of this phone he did everything to kill it with the water. Every non-watertight phone would die.
I've had around a dozen Nokia's. they are built like tanks! A friend used to throw his old candybar phone (66xx) from his 4th floor roof and that beast worked fine!.
It's the small amount of salt in the water that allows for conductivity. The salt separates into ions (Such as Na+ and Cl-). Without these ions (a.k.a. 100% pure water), you don't get conductivity.
"Too bad it's a Windows Phone!" So..... I'm guessing the fact that Apple's own executives have highly praised the Lumia 900 and said that they love the Windows Phone OS means nothing?
In the old days I used to hang my phone on the clothes line along with my laundry if it got wet and in the time when my laundry was dry my phone would work perfectly but it was Nokia 3310 :)
lumia 920 is the best smartphone.it survived everything and also the phones sim card slot etc should be clased and the try..still no other phone can ssurvive such a torturing test
Yea... I droped my Lumia 900 in 2 different puddles outside of my house twice and it lived. I think it had something to do with the sim door but who knows. I also hit it with a golf club and it survived. It was a trooper.
If electronic devices like phones are heavily exposed to water, do not turn them on but instead immediately remove the battery. If the water didn't kill it, you certainly destroy its circuits with a short by attempting to turn it on. Also, I highly doubt 20min in rice is enough to let all water remains evaporate and be soaked up by it.
In defense of Jeff, if fandroid Molly had done this test she probably would have smashed a nail right through the center of the screen and called it a day.
MS have done a lot but I'm fairly sure that things would have progressed a great deal to the point where things weren't too far off from what we have now. Things might look a bit different but MS just got in there early with what they did. If they hadn't done that then other people would have done it at some point.
Too bad the drop test and nail test would have utterly failed on an iPhone. Can't speak for Android, far too many of them. The look of horror on someone's face when you smack the screen with hard metal object is priceless. They run away screaming, clutching their iPhone in it's protective case. :)
This comment may never be read, but I would like to give you one persons opinion. Windows Phone or not what was on trial was the Nokia hardware. All the tests that were done were to determine if the phone would still operate, meaning how far the hardware would go. I take offense because as a tester you are to remain unbiased and you are suppose to remain objective, Which unfortunately you did not, so it's not surprising that you have received many negative comments about what you said.
I wouldn't want Windows Phone to look like Android so I'm talking OS. The design goes more than just the start screen with most of the Apps following the Type face UI. it makes for a more cohesive feel on the phone. You may be able to make your start screen look like WP but good luck doing that across your Apps, etc.
of course with mine I broke the screen twice, on two phones. The first time was pretty expected, I closed my car's hood on it, total accident, but the second time it just fell off a bar and smashed. I haven't replaced it yet because of my bad luck.
Question . If your not here thinking of switching to the lumia , why watch the video and hate others for choosing a superior phone ? Last time I checked htc is moving the One series to windows phone ?
Water Conducts electricity very well,Any form of liquid or moist substance will Conduct electricity.(*FACT*) (Ex1: Put a hairdryer in a tub with you init) (Ex2: Syrup, gel soap, wet hands, putty, spay's,ect)
