Having Rhea, Jeralt and Sothis playable feels like the devs trying to make up that many players found out Rhea, Jeralt and Sothis had fully voiced lines, but were never used as playable units (in Houses) with at best Rhea and Jeralt being Green Units
@LFPman
@LFPman Месяц назад
Kinda felt like Rhea had missed potential that could’ve righted the wrongs of Houses. Especially as the first half, she’s meant to be cryptic and untrustworthy especially as Seteh and Jeralt don’t trust her. Then she’s gone and barely does anything when she finally shows up in VW and SS, practically doesn’t exist in AM and while it had (definitely, you can’t argue with) best ending, the final narration just offscreens her and goes “Oh yeah, Rhea’s fine too btw”, and CF makes her a comically insane villain that rivals Thales, so that siding with Edelgard is justified. I really wanted to her to be the playable Lord in SS, just as Dimitri, Edelgard and Claude did, she should’ve joined pt 2, and not get dragged off because the plot demanded it. I also believe SS’ final boss should’ve been Byleth & Rhea v. Nemesis, instead of the typical “Fire Emblem = Kill A Dragon”, Crimson Flower should’ve been the only one. And yes, I am aware, the writers/devs wanted a lord-less route, so an alternative could’ve been Rhea becomes a Mission Assistance unit, ie a green unit that’s playable for the final map. And Shambhala if you’re generous Hopes didn’t help, because sure she got more screen time, but it’s another case of quantity over quality, when it should’ve been the other way around
@borjankosarac3645
@borjankosarac3645 Месяц назад
Lord-less route could work, if Byleth wasn’t so thinly-designed they can’t work as a protagonist. This is also why the suggestion that Seteth and/or Flayn fit that role, doesn’t work; they’re fundamentally written as supporting characters and can’t be done differently without a massive rewrite. But so is Byleth, in a different way; Rhea could work in that role, but they refuse to ever let her be that and it shows. It really shows…

The Statue under Garreg Mach is a lot more sinister when the lady who mentions it speaking to her was only using it as a placeholder for her own pantheon, and it speaking in a Sinister Tone to her, and following Solons attack on Remire, lead to the Church demanding she leave the Abyss, implies that whatever it was was enough to get exiled from the place FOR exiles. Also on Sreng, it’s attacks on Faerghus for Centuries is what lead to Sylvains female ancestor becoming the defender of the Border thanks to her achievements as a warrior. At the peak of their invasions several centuries ago is why Faerghus built Conand Tower where we fight Sylvains brother.

On the topic of Morfis, it is a direct reference to the Khadein region and Thabes in Archanea, which has a similar shape and is also known for being a desert with magic scholars, as well as having its own "City of Illusion." This is likely just a nod to the Archanea games, but it could imply that the Fodlan games take place in the distant future, with the continent in the center North part of the sea between Valentia and Archanea. This would also imply that Brigid and Dagda are in the Rigel region of Valentia, but again this is all conjecture based on one line of text lol

A lot to cover here for this part of The Info Dump™️: Regarding Almyra: Persia was famed for its archer cavalry though not as much as the mongols, though Almyra seems to be particularly based on the Seljuk Empire. The Seljuks were a nomadic horse riding people who are the forefathers of modern day turkey. The Seljuks migrated into Persia during a period of division called the Iranian Intermezzo. They would conquer all of Iran and conquer a chunk out of the Eastern Roman/Byzantine Empire (this empire has a slight influence on the clothing of Leicester). the Seljuks had a tendency to have the Sultan/Shah’s sons rule over the provinces of the empire, something many dynasties after them would continue to do (similar to how Shahid has authority to call soldiers up and invade Leicester). Almyra is also one of the few nations outside of Fodlan to get a flag (a Golden Horse Archer firing at the sun on a brown banner). we have a somewhat passable of it’s size (at least compared to the little we get from the other non Fodlan nations). Cyril states almyra is larger than Fodlan. To give an idea of scale, the devs have stated that Fodlan is roughly 2/3rds the size of Europe. Thusly, it’s safe to say that almyra is HUGE. Moreover Almyra has several languages, and we know the western most part speaks the language of Fodlan, however we also know contact is so limited that an almyran General from western almyra was utterly shocked to learn that he spoke the same language as Fodlan when he went to fight a battle at the locket. Also; they seem to have white wyverns that can breath more fire than normal. Also, the ship models in three houses show that the almyran ships have CANNONS. (Fodlan ships look more like irl medieval ships) Regarding Albinea: it’s blatantly based on pre Roman Britain. The Greeks called Britain Albion (meaning white hills, from the white cliffs of Dover in south eastern Britain, and from the hopes map eastern Albinea seems to have more detail.) it being cold and miserable also lines up with Roman writing on Britain. Also, hopes mentions they trade with Dominic and Gerth territory. Regarding Brigid, we actually know a name of one of their western most cities (or maybe one of the individual isles): Ginnung. It’s mentioned in a war journal from three hopes that after seizing Brigid, the Adrestian army left from a place called Ginnung, where they would sail off to attack Dagda. (This is from the First Mach War, some decades before faerghus became independent). It’s mentioned that this war ended with Brigid as an Adrestian vassal, yet the Brigid and Dagdan war has Brigid being a dagdan vassal. Furthermore, the name “First Mach War” implies there were several of these, with Brigid changing hands back and forth (although one of these Mach Wars could be in reference to King Banfig conquering the Archduchy of Mach) Regarding Dagda: It is absolutely based on America. Ashe and Ingrid in hopes have a support where they marvel over this plant Ashe read about in a travel log regarding Dagda. What they describe seems to be a potato, which irl is a new world plant, and something that would be immensely beneficial to a land like faerghus, which has poor soil that potatoes famously can grow in. We also have some vague descriptions of the dagdan coast from the earlier mentioned war journal in the Brigid section. It seems that like America, dagda has a tundra like north and humid jungles in the south, and stretches north to south. Duscur: in three hopes, Dimitri seems to actually still have Duscur as part of Faerghus, however, he has restored the old chieftains to power and thus they seem to exist adjacent to the feudal noble system, as an autonomous region of faerghus. Also, Duscur according to Dedue is more fertile than much of faerghus’s land (don’t know how that makes any sense but sure, unless faerghus’ soil is even worse than I imagined). Duscur also apparently has never been properly at war with faerghus, and raids seem to at least be near nonexistent. Duscur also has a lot of good blacksmiths and mines (namely gold mines from the mountain range of sacred gwenhyvar) Regarding Morfis: from what I have heard, there is a possibility that it has influence from Arabic culture. In three houses, Lysithea gets a morfis mage battalion from her paralogue. What’s noteworthy is that I have heard word that Lysithea’s clothing in her post timeskip outfit has Arabic influence that you don’t see in any of the characters, meaning perhaps the morfis mages from her paralogue and her unique design are connected. Also, it does get mentioned in three hopes in an imperial territory document. The Duchy of Aegir, namely it’s capital of Boramas, which is one of the few port cities in Fodlan, has trade with Morfis, and that Aegir is known for abundant import goods and crafts utilizing technology from the east. Regarding Sreng: based on the names we have for Oleg and his son Leif, Sreng is culturally Norse. Furthermore, an offhand comment mentions how Sreng is divided among many clans (though they might have some degree of unity), and that Oleg (and later Leif) ruled the southern most clan. Another thing. Regarding the war between Faerghus and Sreng 15 years ago, that war didn’t actually see any territorial changes, and was only really fought because all of Lambert’s attempts at diplomacy with Sreng had failed (especially with a Sreng raid killing margrave Gautier’s first wife while she was pregnant, leading to him remarrying and Sylvain being born. Yes, Sylvain and Miklan are half brothers, not fully brothers). So lambert spent at least three years training for an invasion before curb stomping them in about a month, before Macuil showed up and fucked everyone up. Oleg gave Leif as a hostage and peace was made. We know of maybe 2 previous wars with Sreng (I say maybe because only one of them is actually directly stated). One of them is described in Partholon’s Military history in three hopes. King Banfig (while fighting the crescent moon war) was suffering from intensifying raids from Sreng, so he had numerous forts built on the border, one of which was Conand Tower, which from what we know in Three Houses, was the sight of a major battle. We also known the precise location of Conand tower. In Golden Wildfire, chapter 11, the invasion of Fraldarius, there is a part on the war map that mentions that Conand tower is there (namely Mid Southern Fraldarius) which is roughly on the same latitude as Fhirdiad, meaning Fhirdiad was very close to the border at the time. This war would see the border be pushed up to its modern state, seeing Fraldarius territory expand, Itha be conquered, and modern Gautier territory be conquered (which was given to Laetitia Zoe Gautier, who distinguished herself during the war and became the first margrave Gautier, and would get the lance of ruin from the church after asking for it). The other war with Sreng is only implied to exist. We know that Sreng used to own the entire peninsula, which would include the lands Fhirdiad is on. This means that at some point, someone must have conquered those lands from Sreng. We don’t know who did it (it could be either Faerghus or Adrestia). Regardless, the two notable outcomes of this war would be that the lands Fhirdiad would be built on would be conquered as well as the Danu River Basin, a part of Fraldarius territory which produces the most food in all of the eastern kingdom as well as low quality but high quantity soldiers (you can see it on the map. It’s a hilly bit in the eastern kingdom where a river begins.) the fact Faerghus might have been the one to conquer it implies that in the past, Faerghus had a different capital. Most likely Camulus. As it was a church holy site in the Tailteann Plains, probably built on top of where nemesis died. And with Loog being crowned by the church, it’s likely they ruled from a city under the influence of the church before a later king would conquer the lands from Sreng. My personal guess is that some king between Loog and Klaus conquered the lands where Fhirdiad would be founded while Klaus actually moved the capital there. Alternatively, some Adrestian emperor did it (there is a book byleth reads in a cutscene that literally rips a quote from one of Julius Caesar’s books, describing how Caesar spoke to representatives of tribes, so if you want to take that as canon, you could say some guy named Caesar did it, but that’s a bit silly). Also, the bit of Sreng the wind caller lives in, the weird desert. It’s possible the region was temperate and farmable originally, namely from almyra across the sea to the east having warm winds blowing there to keep it warmer. However, it’s possible the wind caller, in an attempt to keep people away, used his command of the wind to heat the place up even more until it became a desert, basically destroying one of the few sources of farm land Sreng had. Anyways, it’s been great following you on this series! My worldbuilding addicted heart has adored this series! A quick word about the Agarthans, I just learned this: the three hopes art book has a thing regarding the crown Rufus wears. The translation I got said: “I got it from Cornelia. agarume’s headdress that is strengthening its power” from what I’ve been told, the more precise translation is that it’s basically making Rufus more susceptible to Cornelia’s words.

This is why I really wish IS would allow some of these corners of the franchise to get multiple entries like the original Archanea setting, which had six games in all. Five games set across three continents (Archanea, Valentia, and Jugdral) all within a few years of each other and a sixth game, "Awakening", which is a distant sequel to the Archanea and Valentia games. So, it had a pretty fleshed out history as the result. Of course, that would require them to pick one of Three House's endings as canonical, unless they released a series of prequels to flesh out the setting.

What makes it worse is that all the other games had literally every nation involved to some degree. It's really sad the Warriors Spin Offs actually had more for the other countries than 3 Houses did. (And in my honest opinion, Claude's route in 3 Hopes should have spent half the time taking over Almyra, putting Claude on the newly combined Leicester-Almyra Throne, and then going "Aight, time for you to knock your shit off." to the other 2 houses.) (Also a Route for the Ashen Wolves. And another one involving The Protagonist of 3 Hopes going "Fuck this, doing my own thing." like becoming Big Boss of Fodlan. Or Taking over the Agarthans to stop them from being fantasy WW2 Germany and building a new nation. Or some other thing.). (I guess my point is 3 Hopes really should have had other Routes, even if it require them to be DLC.) 'The Writers hate the Church.' Like it wouldn’t make sense for us to fuck off to Sreng or Morfis when the Adrestian emperor is trying to topple the church’s dogma.

My theory about the dagen god is either its an import god brought by tribes not subjagated by the church as we do see yuri's heroes relic was found in dagad and brought back to fodlan or the church captued the statue during a war and kept it as a bargaining chip for negotiations that never happened as the empire took petra so taking other things from other nation is not unreasonable.

I've been putting your World Tour videos on in the background ever since my friend shared your video on the wasted potential of "Those who Hoedown in the Alley." Your comments about Koei hating Rhea reminded me of something: I'm actually very curious, how much do we know about behind-the-scenes for the development of 3H/3H's story? I've always heard hearsay that IS wrote and developed Silver Snow, then passed it off to Koei to make Verdant Wind and Azure Moon with notes. I think I recall from an interview I did read that Crimson Flower came from the dev team wanting to give an Edelgard perspective because they wanted to, essentially. That CF essentially wasn't part of the initial vision. But I'm not certain on the validity of these interpretations, or of my memory for that matter. And then I've heard nothing on the background for writing and development interviews for 3 Hopes altogether. And no DLC! Musou has a long enough history of expanded versions and DLC while FE is no stranger to DLC now, but between the ending discourse and the lack of updates/dlc and unused characters it feels like 3 Hopes was just phoned in to fill in a slot, at least on the "realities of game development" side of things. If you have any interviews to share or notes on the subject, that would be great. If you read all this, thank you for your time!

I did read it and I found it interesting. There is this insane theory I’ve heard that the geographic similarities between Fodlan and our earth are not just the devs taking inspiration from real life, but rather than Fodlan is earth after it got fucked up by Sothis and the Agarthans. I didn’t go into detail on this theory in the other videos, but I might as well now (I’d recommend you open a tab with the three hopes map of the noble territories of Fodlan (so long as it’s not that one that invents a bunch to city names) To start, western Adrestia is quite blatantly northern France. The peninsula in Gerth territory (which used to be Nuevelle territory) is very much like Brittany, and the rest is similar to Normandy. Albinea is blatantly britian in geography and name. As Albion is an old name for Britain and it’s shaped like a distorted England. Brigid’d western most island is similar to Portugal with the island above it being similar to Galicia, with Brigid over all being a shattered Iberia. The area of western most faerghus is very similar to the Low Countries (Belgium, Netherlands, and Luxembourg). Duscur and those islands next to it is Denmark, Hearthlandia to the north is basically Norway, and most of faerghus is Germany. The peninsula Sreng is on is, according to the theory, Sothis pulling the Baltic states out of the ground and slamming it back into the earth. Modern Sreng is supposed to be Estonia and Gautier territory is the southern half of Latvia (or it’s Sweden and it linked to Germany according to another lunatic I spent time listening to) Leicester is Poland, with Deirdru equating to either Gdańsk or Kaliningrad (Edmund territory is comparable to early Ducal Prussia, which initially tried to be a naval power). The Airmid river is the Danube river; with Hrym territory being southern Romania, it’s northern mountains being the remnants of the carpathians which got squished into Leicester (Poland) to make a border with Almyra, which equates geographically to Russia, Ukraine, and Belarus. There is a land in the northern corner of the map in three hopes that might equate to finland/ The island right on Almyra’s southern coast is crimea, with the longer island to its south west being the Bulgarian and Romanian coast. The other islands south of that is part of Albania as well as the remnants of the Peloponnesian Peninsula and the Attican Peninsula. The islands closer to Morfis are the Aegean islands. Morfis is turkey. With the part of the sea above it being the Black Sea. The peninsula Enbarr is on is the Italian peninsula, with the island to its south or the pointy bit on the western side of the peninsula being Sicily (if the latter then the other two pointy bits of the peninsula are the boot of Italy) There is a land mass just south of morfis in the hopes map with equates to part of the Middle East or Africa. There is a bit of land south of the Brigid islands in the hopes map which equates to either Tunisia or Morocco. Dagda, being a land mass which stretches north to south with northern tundras and southern jungle is north and South America. While the inspirations are all there, I think it’s a bit much to say that Fodlan IS earth after Sothis and the Agarthans wrecked it.

Well, it is not much of a theory in-narrative. The noncanon(but still lore revealing) mobile game you may have heard about has the avatar actually be a human from our world isekai-ed into its world. And guess what? They make a point of how even compared to other fully human FE characters, said avatar is the most similar to the agarthans. Fodlan IS an alternate version of earth that was seemingly wrecked by us(before being taken over by a random invasive dragon god), which is why the meme exists that the giant missles are magical nukes.

It has been a great run through Fodlan with you. Each of your videos has been enjoyable thanks to your mostly impartial stance. It's rare among 3H fans to be able to have that kind of stance for long. So you earned a sub from me because of that, and I look forward to more of your content. Now onto how the video is. --- It kinda makes sense why we simply can never truly know about the other nations, and only get small bits and pieces about it. Fodlan's own isolationist stance and rejection of any and all outsiders only result in a strong form of ignorance about how the other nations operate. Even Cyril wouldn't know all the ins and outs of Almyra because he was already so young. He's a kid who never learned to read, so how would he even known the history, religion, politics, etc. of his nation? And Shamir and Dedue, likewise, are not that much in favor of talking about their nation that often. Only Petra is, and that's cause her friendship with Edelgard lets her have the freedom to feel like she doesn't need to feel isolated as a result. So she's more open to the other characters of her religion and culture should they ever express any intent to learn. But I think after learning in 3Hopes about how massive Almyra's forces can end up being, as well as how powerful their ships have become, it's kinda clear that if something didn't change Fodlan's isolationist stance, Fodlan was going to be destroyed. People have argued that Fodlan is justified, but the problem those people don't get is that no matter how angry they might be, the long-term case is that Fodlan will get destroyed if one of the powerful outside nations finally has enough and decides to raze Fodlan to the ground. If someone like Shahid were to take the throne and wanted to grind Fodlan to the ground, they have the military and resources to clearly do just that. Hell, it was shocking to learn that Duke Gerth from the Empire was actually trying to form a friendship with Dagda, but makes sense given how the Empire is not pro-Church, so they wouldn't strictly be following the isolationist policies. And Fodlan needed to give up the isolationist policies by the time the game starts or else it might be too late.

I mean Cyril gives a pretty good view of what he does know. Orphans are forced to be involved in fighting, they don’t get fed EXCEPT after a battle, and are treated as mere workers with nothing done to help them. His and Claude’s support even goes over his issues with Almyra and how it treats those at the bottom like him. He was literally taken captive after one of those battles and as an orphan Almyra never cared to retrieve him. You can gleam a lot about how you treat those at the very bottom of society like orphans. As for the “isolationism” that’s ehhh…the game doesn’t do a good job with that as a concept. Fact is too many items for cooking and such that are traded from other nations be it fruits, teas, ports that trade outside of Fodlan, etc that they didn’t really think it through how isolated Fodlan would truly have to be to work as intended. Faerghus has Dominic whose ports trade with Albinea despite being the nation with the closest ties, yet it’s clear the writers forgot this because Claude acts like this isn’t a thing in his Zahras support with Dimitri. Nevermind he has even more dumb and baffling ideas like having the extremely racist and vocally isolationist Western Church as a “good” replacement for the Central Church. Hopes also reveals that Brigid has ties to the Central Church as well, which Petra makes more of and why Duke Gerth was able to use his position to have her go there.
@0axis771
@0axis771 Месяц назад
@@BlackfangDragon Problem is that Cyril is but one kid who doesn’t know the strict geopolitics of Almyra. Yes, his support with Claude exposes an issue in Almyra, but Cyril himself is not end all be all proof about how Almyra is. Had Rhea not taken in Cyril, his life in Fodlan was no better, given he was made into a literal slave by House Goneril. As for items used for cooking, bear in mind that it isn’t strictly open trade. As proven by a 3H side quest, merchants from other nations sneak in for black market deals, so those fruits and such that you get from others might be procured from the black market. Also, you’re gonna need to tell me where it was stated that House Dominic has open trade with Albinea. If anything, the support in Zahras having Dimitri not deny Claude’s assertions highlight how correct he is. And mixed with what I said about the black market, there’s good chance that Albinea’s trade with House Dominic is more through the black market channel, not an open trade. And not sure when Claude said he’s in support of the Western Church, but assume he is for a second. The Western Church does not hold more power than the Kingdom’s royal family. As shown several times, a nation’s own church does not hold enough authority to control or influence the nation’s leadership, something that is not the same with the Central Church, which DOES uphold racist and isolationist beliefs where Rhea is strictly in support of them or not, as proven by how several church people during 3H made certain racist remarks. And no, Brigid itself doesn’t hold actual relations with the Central Church, but that Duke Gerth has due to being an imperial noble. The empire still holds relations with the Central Church.
@scion513
@scion513 Месяц назад
@@0axis771while the western church does not have enough power to control the royal family, it does have influence over western nobles. Furthermore, the western church is the only branch church to retain its own order of knights. The western church’s xenophobic beliefs would simply stifle Dimitri’s attempts at reform, and would either quietly stifle his reforms while preaching against them and Dimitri, which would likely lead to rebellion.
@0axis771
@0axis771 Месяц назад
@@scion513 The Western Church already lost most of its influence in 3Hopes after Dimitri launched a thorough investigation into the Tragedy of Duscur, resulting in most of the western lords losing power, if not executed. Especially if they hadn’t already instigated a rebellion as they did in AG and implied in SB. So arguing of Dimitri using the Western Church following the Central Church being dismantled means that Dimitri can institute reforms, especially if he makes similar political moves like Edelgard has done.

Almyra is so irrelevant I have no idea why they are participating in raids against Fodlan (no depiction of them shows them taking slaves or loot (IIRC, the 'Almyran bandits' in the Alois paralogue are just bandits calling themselves that), they have no stated racial or national animosity against Fodlani (and, while Fodlani say bad things about Almyrans, that might stem more from them being raiders than any particular racial or national animosity, especially since Claude looks Almyran or half-Almyran and never experiences adversity on screen that can be correlated to his race). Also, to put it clearly, if his race was an issue, he would not be allowed to have any claim to the Leicester alliance, he would be (most likely) quietly put out to pasture in one fashion or another (a blade in the back or exile, for example). But seriously, why do Almyrans raid Fodlan? Wouldn't it make more sense to raid easier targets if there isn't a reason to attack them specifically? They built a fort to keep you out, and one of the legendary heroes of the setting guards it 90% of the time. It'd be like us giving Audie Murphy an M2 browning, giving him an armory's worth of ammo and permission to shoot on sight, and setting him up on the southern border. You wouldn't be crossing that border voluntarily.
@bubbles784
@bubbles784 Месяц назад
I think they use Fodlan as proving grounds for their soldiers cause iirc either in a support or paralogue‚ Almyrans celebrate after a battle at the Locket. They also probably raid other neighbouring countries (or conquer them) since we only see them in Fodlan but never know why they attack Fodlan (coupled with Lorenz telling Nader to not loot the Kingdom in GW). Also, I believe in GW (in chapter 3?)‚ Nader said something about Fodlan people being cowards for hiding behind the Locket. I have nothing to close out this comment except for the thought that just popped up and it's that Almyra is only relevant if it relates to Alliance territory. And it gives the Alliance something (Adrestia with Brigid and Dagda‚ Kingdom with Duscar and Sreng [Morfis and Albania trade with the nations respectively‚ but to me they are irrelevant]).

They attack the locket as a matter of prestige. After all, if you actually take the thing, who are you supposed to fight in order to show off your prowess in battle. Something I find interesting is that Fódlan’s “xenophobia” is kind of justified by the actions that foreign nations have taken. -Almyra routinely leads invasions into Alliance territory seemingly for the fun of it, and their culture begets a lot of orphans, child soldiers, and death. They portray themselves as barbarians and so that’s how Fódlan sees them. -Dagda (and a compelled Brigid) led an invasion into empire territory, and thus the Empire is justified in retaliating. -If I recall correctly, Sreng was the aggressor in the war that led to the Kingdom acquiring much of their territory, or at the very least, conflict between the two nations has been going on for a long time. -Duscur was literally framed by the dubstep people so the Kingdom, whose culture honored chivalry and their king, were supposed to view Duscur as responsible for regicide. However unjustified the genocide of Duscur was, the Kingdom was acting based on what limited and false information that they had. The anger at those responsible for regicide was understandable, but their actions were absolutely not. I don’t think the common consensus is that Fódlan is uniquely bad in the grand scheme of things, but I still think it’s important understand different sides of these conflicts.

Yeah Sreng has had a long history of invading Faerghus even when they ruled the much more fertile parts of Sreng in the past. And of course Sylvains dad started hating Sreng when one of their raids killed his first wife and unborn kid.

Keep in mind, we only ever read history from Fodlan's POV, and the part and they have a natural bias against those that aren't part of their cultural sphere. Almyra and Fodlan's relations improve pretty drastically once an effort is made. Cyril claims that the invasions are for fun, but while his POV is valid as a child soldier who couldn't care less about the reasons for war, we don't really get a full view of the political reasons that their rulers may have. What we do know is that at least some of Almyra's negative reputation is from pretenders who claim to be Almyran (Alois & Shamir paralogue, Claude 3Hopes paralogue) and that at least one of the noble houses takes Almyran POWs as indentured servants. We also know that despite people in Fodlan's tendency to write off those outside it's borders as barbarians, Lorenz admits in 3Hopes that in many aspects Almyra may actually be far more advanced than Fodlan in technology. The issue isn't that Almyra portrays itself as a barbarian nation--they in turn view the people of Fodlan to be barbarians!--but rather the point that Claude makes is that neither side cares to learn about each other and makes mutual assumptions that end up maintaining a highly hostile border. And indeed, it's not just a Leicester problem, as Dimitri admits that as a child he was taught that the people of Sreng were monsters who couldn't even speak a human language. Sreng was never stated to be the first aggressor. Fhirdiad was likely near what was the border with Sreng, but the first recorded invasion from Sreng as written by Fodlan historians is from a time when the border was already up near Gautier territory. In other words, the first recorded invasions happened after Faerghus had seized the southern, less frozen parts of Sreng territory, which in 3Hopes i the specific reason why Sreng raids Faerghus. They literally have no farmland, and their ports are frozen over. Dagda apparently did invade, however, in the first invasion Brigid was not involved. Instead, the Empire subjugated them in order to use them as a base to launch a counterattack against Dagda and then had the audacity to get mad when Brigid collaborated with Dagda to free themselves from their colonization and considered them to be backstabbers and inferior. From then on, it seems that Brigid was fought over between Dagda and the Empire. Although those in Fodlan might find this way of thinking natural, it's easy to see how this dehumanization and lack of mutual trust plays into their difficulty in establishing positive diplomatic relationships with other nations that don't involve war or subjugation. Fodlan's xenophobia isn't justified--it's just that when you're immersed in Fodlan's POV you end up being sucked into their own self-justification for their world view.

Almyra, hell, the Leicester Alliance as a whole could've been cut from the game. Put Lysithea in BE, Marianne in BL, have Leonie as a mid-semester paralogue recruit for whatwver class Byleth teaches, and we'd have more time and resources to focus on the actual plot.

Honestly I think it would have been interesting if Claude and several of his brothers each took a side during the war to push a claim for the Throne by showing their dads. With Shahid being the one who didn’t try that at all and just tried to conquer all of it at once.

You wanted the bloated 3H to have enough content for 40 chapters on each route? Are you mad… ;-P More seriously, having more of the outside would have fixed so many things. Like, Edie’s “I want to conquer everything in my continent but nothing else; I will support the independence of anybody who in my mind, doesn’t rightly belong to the Adrestian Empire that the Church technically made but let’s not dwell on those particular details” ^.^
