Bro your awesome. For this you’ve earned my subscription. The lady is so courteous and damn beautiful, she’s a model that black women should emulate(try to be like). I’ll be returning to the mother land, God bless brother.
Actually this is a good idea...why don't you try something like this in all kenyan communities...i mean you try to experience the different cultures in kenya
First time here, love it. I heard about your Channel while watching you being interviewed by a beautiful lady from Ghana, where you were telling her about your journey from the US to Kenya. Great content my brother. I am Jamaican living in Toronto. Been to Kenya twice and love it! For sure my home will be Jamaica and Kenya.
In the Kikuyu/Kenyan culture, the dowry or bride price is not a fixed amount. Instead, the parents or elders from the girl's side take various factors into consideration before determining the "quote." These factors can include the girl's level of education and background, etc. Some men even have to sell assets, such as parcels of land, in order to fulfill the dowry payment. As mentioned by my namesake Njeri who you hosted in your video (or who hosted you in her village home), the payment of dowry is seen as a symbol of appreciation towards the girl's family. In some cultures, it is believed that dowry payment is an ongoing process, as the husband will continue to provide occasional gifts to the girl's family over time to express ongoing gratitude. In addition to the customary distribution of food among family members, there is a traditional practice regarding who gets to partake in specific portions. Typically, the man of the house or the eldest male individual is given the choicest piece, which is often the most fleshy one. Furthermore, gizzards are specifically reserved for the men. It is believed by some communities that consuming gizzards can potentially enhance their libido. 🤷♀
I'm Luhya married to a uo girl and it's only Luos who don't put a price to their daughters when it comes to dowry, regardless of education level. They leave it to you to figure out and they ultimately receive what you provide.
I mean. I’m less than 5 minutes in and I need to hear a voice like that, the teasing and sweetness and conversation and feminine perfection all the days of my life. Wake up at 4am to get our world started? Milk cows and care for the tribe. SIGN ME UP!
Surely a Mfalme.... Musa you are doing a good job... Great video.... Waiting for more videos from you.... One Africa.... And the lady she is humble... I like her....
With you being from Philly, you might to visit FreeTown, Sierra Leone as well. Just to visit. Most ppl in Philly has a grandparent/ancestor who moved from South Carolina and told to keep quiet about the Gullah or Gullah geechee culture / language when moving up north. Many Gullah people moved to Philly but during slavery, the British helped moved more Gullah people to “Freetown” where they was finally free and they took that Gullah language x Jamaican language and renamed it Gullah. Ask your fam is you have an ancestor from South Carolina who was told to come to philly or surrounding areas
Mfalume and Sherri this was fire 🔥😍👌 from beginning to finish!!! Enjoyed everything. Keep bringing us various videos - like your content as it's different from the usual. You looked great 👍. Look forward to more collabs. Asante sana!
I actually stopped eating chicken for a couple of years after seeing a feather on a fried chicken wing at KFC. I was taught how to cut up a chicken as a child; it was bought at the store, but it still had blood and gizzards/livers inside (thanks for teaching me mom!), she grew up in the country and this was normal to them. I'm meal-prepping for the week; I can't imagine not knowing how to cook for myself; especially with all the poisonous boxed food out here now. This is amazing content, Bro. M.! Thank you for educating us, Sherri!
The sista represented our Kikuyu culture quite well and she looks amazing. Good to see you @Mfalme Musa going out on a limb to give us varied content. Kenya has about 45 different tribes each with it's own culture including language. Largely speaking, the different tribes are grouped within three categories - Bantu, Nilote and Cushite with Bantu being the majority and which Kikuyu is a part of. Good stuff!
What a great content Mfalme, mad respect to you Bro, and that gal woo, she's damn fine her voice is really killing me, wallahi am still dead🤩av even subscribed to her channel ASAP😂
In Kikuyu culture, it's s 100 goats for DOWRY (but reduced to 99 because Kikuyus view even numbers as bad omen in matters culture. However, you're not required to pay it all at once, Kikuyu dowry is a lifetime venture. You pay the 99 goats in bits. Since nowadays people don't keep a lot of goats, you can just pay two of the most important goats in form of livestock but the rest can be quantified in terms of money. The alcohol she mentioned is referred to as MURATINA, made ritually using honey, sugarcane, and the sacred plant that Kikuyus call "muratina". When a boy is born, women ululate 5 times, but for a girl its 4 times. Each time has a cultural meaning and blessing attached to it. The first 4 are similar for both boys and girls. The fifth one for the boy signifies COURAGE/BRAVERY, which a man should have.
The amount will be determined by how well the elders( bridesgroom side) are able to negotiate the price of a goat. It could start from whatever price point, all the way to a price which is agreeable to both sets of elders. Alot of huggling is involved in a closed room. So,should they agree at a price of 5k per goat, you will pay 500k...so,it all about the negotiating skills of the elders on bridegroom's side. 😊
In American cities they eat industrially raised hormone injected chicken. This is real organic stuff Musa..You raise it, slaughter & eat it.. While living in Maryland we got our goat slaughtered in Pennsylvania farms...Farmland Mzungus know how to slaugher goats & chicken..
Mr Musa your contents are are always nice, wonderful and very unique i love them, even though you normally take long before posting something new it's always worth the wait. You asked the lady about dowry payment but she didn't answer you well here's the answer, if your well off(moneywise) you can pay from 100k to 1M Ksh, if not well off between 50 to 100k or according to what her parent will agree with your parents.
Actually, traditionally you pray for animals before slaughter. But with commercial farming, that tradition is lost. Muslims pray for the soul of the animal, and generally in Kenya, all meat for public sale is halal. Pork is handled with a different license
Even in the rural areas, we no longer use calabashes or dress like the Kikuyu lady is dressed. But the show is good for remembering our culture of the past.
@@Dolledupandthangs 😊 dont worry you safe,,Polygamy was very dominant in the past ,,Nowadays with woman empowerment, feminists and all that shit,,Aint no Nigga marrying two wives🤣🤣 Continue enjoying your stay in Kenya though, I really enjoy your content and Musa's
@AbaKuria Don't start that Polygamy crap with us. It is not good!! I have lived in the Middle East where Polygamy is practiced and I have followed many African Muslims who practiced this. The Prophet said, one is best for you. That was Prophet Muhammad(PBUH). HE WAS SPEAKING TO THE MUSLIMS WHO WERE LIMITED TO A SPECIFIC AMOUNT!! However, I have known Christian Africans who had 10 wives and 120 children!!! 😢It was a mess and the man left a BIG MESS when he died. I know it was a joke, but I'm just saying. There are many men who think that multiple wives is a paradise😂It can be a living hell😢
@@Dolledupandthangsdon't worry about this comment because polygamy is not common in Kenya (like only 5% of Kenyan men are in polygamous married, most prefer one woman), this culture is alot common in other parts of Africa especially North and West African countries so don't worry about your dear Mfalme Musa being influenced here in Kenya
Noooooo young girl, your husband will not pay the same amount your dad payed, Yes, all men pay 99 goats+1(kenda muiyuru) but not the same value of money. For example,my dad payed 5ksh per goat (100 ×5) when she was marrying my mum but my brother in-law paid 4,000(4,000 × 100) per goat last year. Its only the number of animals that doesn't change.
The best place to go first, my recommendation, start in the traditional,,the village..you can go in and out ..continual vists.visits.. learn the language fast. And relax.. In my village, my family has a cocoa farm.lots of bananas tree.cassava.yuga,( eddoes. yams..potatoes ..etc)..and chickens, and goat..and rice... Culture , customs, varies.. ..START FROM THE VILLAGE..PLEASE. PLEASE.PLEASE..OUR KINGS..welcome to your mother's land../ papa's land.. Come, and relax..a bit..GET AWAY FROM IT ALL """ PLEASE leave all that attitude behind.....USA nonsense.. GET the respect you deserve..and feel at home...MOST importantly, adopt a village l age mom/ dad officially. Obtain residency. Free citizen in GHANA , abs Sierra Leone.. AKWAABA
Careful with this chic, she is not your typical village girl, she seems to know alot stuff, I sense she is living a double life because she gives this strong black airforce vibe as if she grew up in the centre of Nairobi aka Kanairo where its dog eats dog.
A lot of city Africans including politicians and ceos and those who left for overseas were raised in villages and only left in search of jobs/higher studies. This young woman grew up in decentralized Kenya 🇰🇪 (since 2010 - 13 years ago) when even people living outside Nairobi were able to access similar services and goods albeit on a smaller scale. All counties (parts of the country) have universities, malls, schools, etc so don't need to be raised in Nairobbery to be woke.
The whole point was to go to the village and make a meal the village way, not to go to the village and cook with an oven or a gas we know we have them in our villages
@@LetsTravellChannel you are misguided, he’s talking about African culture, there is no African culture in any tribe where men cooked !!, This is misinformation Let him first understand slavery which I am sure he does not because of distorted slavery history where he comes from. Prior to eti educating African culture, nonsense
Wakenya, who amongst the English-speaking-girls talks and wears on normal days like this one here? And who is this man wearing like? Which tribe is this costume from coz it's like an oral narrative i stopped watching.
I watched all of it btw. So maybe next time do something real. And also get to ask about what we think of what form of what in a person who represents our collective interests. Jua watu jamaa
@@mediacare6744 you stated “ I stopped watching” Utilize proper grammar to get your point across next time because that made no sense. You can dictate what YOU can create on YOUR OWN RU-vid channel… not mine 🫠
