Am I a Traitor to the USA?

I get a lot of interesting comments, mostly from angry Americans, but one of the most interesting to me is when I'm called a "traitor." I wanted to explore what that means and the bigger issues of Tribalism and Nationalism. Two major issues that I think are pushing us farther apart and creating more problems in the world.
What do you think about this issue? Do you think Nationalism is valuable or creating more problems for the global community?

🙂 I'm in the midwest of the US and as an American we lie to ourselves to justify our issues. We lie about our addictions, we blame others for our own failures. This is us and our own govt always blaming others! AMERICA is declining ...trying so hard to hold on to our past glory! True Americans look at the problem and find ways to fix the issues from within! But, its easier to blame others!
@TripBitten

Sadly, it is easier to blame others or to justify the issues. I hope more people with start working together and start to rebuild the US, because it can be an amazing country, but it has been sold out by some of the people at the top. What's the difference, ones already are Communists, the others already mentally obedience trainings prepared to be. Look at what happened during Covid 19 lockdowns, no matter how long locked down, take the Covid 19 vaccines, no matter how many times told to, including the kids, pregnant women, nothing else matters but taking more vaccines for Covid-19. Go on, keep obeying the enslavers, and harming me. All I've got is God seeing it all, judging all, and frankly deserved karma back upon all, because it's been bad karma here towards me since before I moved back from Spain. May have destroyed my life overseas, may have destroyed my looks, my reputation with some of my friends and family overseas, but still remain all ugly on the insides here. That obviously doesn't change. Just always all wrapped up in ownselves egoistical dark as the pits of hell, wicked monsters.

I believe indoctrination at a young age shapes one’s life: in the US we have been indoctrinated at a young age we are the best and we believe it and live only knowing we are the best. I believe in China (from Chinese friends) they were indoctrinated to work/study hard to have a better future given their prior generations were so poor and that has shaped their lives. The results for both are what we are seeing today.

Being poor is the outcome, not the reason. Mostly because of wars, and invasions from Europe, US, Japan. China has always been one of the richest and most influential countries most of the time in history, and it was not poor until the war with westerners and Japanese in the last century. Especially the Japanese invasion made Chinese realized the reality, if you don’t work hard and remember the history, then you’ll get beat up and tortured again by the invaders, that’s the history of China and most Chinese don’t want to suffer what their ancestors used to experience, so we need to be stronger for self defense at least. Peace is not through dialogue, but through absolute power, that’s the harsh reality. If you’re so weak, no one is going to listen to your words, and if the invaders believed in words, then the invasion could’ve been avoided. It’s ridiculous that the west saying China is building military for invasion, but it’s them who invaded, looted, and colonized parts of China. Maybe they’re afraid that China is getting too strong, and one day the Chinese will avenge them? If you don’t provoke that much I think you’re fine. Chinese people love peace, but when we must fight, we’ll fight. China started to build from the scratch again because of the war, it might have caused many pains in Chinese, but the spirit is still there, and it’s the more than 5000 years of history and culture made Chinese people stand again and again even they fall at times, which is why China is developing fast and many foreigners don’t understand the reason.

The older I get the less I feel like my country cares about the average American's welfare. Most of us are just one accident or illness away from bankruptcy. College is a long-lasting financial burden. The politicians elected by the people are loyal to lobbyists. We're told we have a democracy but I keep seeing the government give our tax money away to other country's wars, etc and I don't remember us voting on that decision. Elections are served to us with only two choices. Democracy somehow allows only a few states to have caucuses that whittle down the candidates for those two options. For example, Iowa was the latest to hold a caucus to decide who the rest of us get to vote on for the "real" election this November. An actual Kennedy can't even get on the ticket-a well qualified one. Minimum wage is not a living wage. Employers work you to the maximum weekly hours just shy of what's considered full-time which requires them to provide health benefits, etc. The public schools are a joke and I say that from the standpoint of a parent and former educator. Life-long friendships are severed over political opinions. The doctors prescribe drugs they know are addictive with no care to follow up. My daughter needed a surgery our insurance wouldn't pay for. The surgeon would not even SCHEDULE the surgery unless we paid them $200,000 up front. Then we could make payments on the unknown balance. Luckily, we found a children's hospital with top notch surgeons who helped us-for FREE! But it took me at least a year to find that option and only bc of covid cancellations did we get her slipped in at the last moment before the entire country was locked down. I used to wish for universal healthcare here in the US but after seeing how our veteran's healthcare is handled, I don't trust our government to handle our healthcare. Yet, so many other countries manage somehow to provide care for their people without putting them into bankruptcy. Before my mother died from cancer, she had only a few radiation treatments and spent one week in the ICU where she passed. The bills were so astronomical my father couldn't pay them. The hospital sued him and tried to take his farm and home away from him. That happened over twenty years ago. I think about moving to another country a LOT to give my children a better chance without the financial burdens of college and illness following them all their lives. But I'm scared of being hated by other countries for being American. I don't expect a warm welcome. The vulnerability of a language barrier is also a concern. But I'm very tired of how the US allows it's average citizens to be treated. If this was a marriage, I'd have left by now. I can't talk about this where I live. People where I live aren't tolerant of any opinions that don't align with their own. They can be quite hateful about it. But we think about it. Believe you me. We're tired. But I know there are worse, scarier places in the world and I'm grateful for what we do have. People lose their lives trying to sneak INTO our country. I guess it boils down to choosing between the devil you know and the devil you don't know. 🤷‍♀️ I appreciate your content. It's refreshing to hear confirmed what I've suspected.

I own no properties nor hold citizenship in another country. I pay more taxes than most( being in the top 1%). In fact I speak up because I have much more to lose than the average Joe if we self- destruct. It’s like the passenger that’s critical of the driver who’s abusing the car. He is more critical( of the driver, not the car) because he cares more than the other sleeping passengers. He is the owner of the car and has more to lose when the care break down from the abuse! I see those who are mute and permissive about those few evil corporate puppets in government who serve themselves and their masters, while they hijack the real object of my loyalty(America )at our people’s expense, as actual traitors. Those who are mute or defend the hijackers of my country have their loyalty misplaced. Instead of being loyal to the country, they are loyal the the party or persons running the scam. It’s like the Christian who follow their preacher rather the than the gospel. Rather than defending the gospel, they defend the preacher even as the preacher is desecrating the Bible.

America has its gigantic flaws to be sure, and I much prefer living in New Zealand which is a much more free and honest society in many ways. But if I don't like something about NZ politics, and I post about it online, nobody is going to arrest me or make my life difficult to the point where I feel compelled to stop or censor myself. All if that is part of your reality in China. The plain truth is that you can't address this issue as openly and fully as you would if you were in New Zealand or... *Gasp* America. And that's why your videos don't always sit easily with me. It's hard to hear you complain about aspects of American life that are so much worse in China, and simultaneously not appear to have any self awareness about it.

May God Bless you, bro. Being open minded, traveling and being able to perceive differences between people and places is 'not a crime', it's when you try to share your experiences with good intentions that some do perceive that your opinions are not in line with their own. You have not committed any crime when you were only trying to create awareness. Still you do meet objections, yes that's reality and they are entitled to their opinions. Don't worry nor be frustrated, the world will continue to evolve regardlessly. TQ for your video.

Greatest country in the world! That's what my first American colleague said to me when we first met. He was white ivy League educated and obviously privileged. Going up given his background. Understandable given indoctrination by education and Hollywood. The hero is usually white male - Captain American. Whether it's a film set in China the white Westerner comes to the rescue. The main star is always the white guy - lethal weapon, fayr and furious - the side kicks are usually non white or female. When the main star is a non white then it's an all black film.

Just imagine this scene - You and a close friend goes out for a fine dinner party and the both of you are dressed in your finest. You are going to be the host and will be giving a speech before a dinner audience of a thousand diners. As the two of your head out towards the venue, your friend turns to you and tells you that your fly is undone and there's a big ugly splash of tomato ketchup (sauce) around your belly on your otherwise immaculate white shirt. Do you - turn around and accuse your friend of making fun of you and trying to spoil your night as you'd rather not be informed and pretend that all is well? or do you get those fixed as quickly as possible and even ask your friend to help before you end up being a laughing stock of the dinner? Will your real enemy even try to tell you your fly is open and there's a bright red splash of ketchup on your white shirt but sit among the audience, sniggering and mocking you instead? Ask yourself, who is your true friend and who is your enemy? So too, true Americans will see the blemishes and faults of the nation and actually WANT to point those out so that they will be ironed out and the whole country benefits from the improved changes made. Traitors just will not bother but allow the nation to decline, to deteriorate and wallow in the muddy slime of the cesspool, remain silent and go live in the paradise of their choice. True Americans will want the very best outcomes for their country in the same way as you would a brand new car and will polish out any tiny speck of bird dropping on its polished paintwork, would you not? Those who don't care will simply remain silent and pretend that all is well. Know who your real traitors and enemies are. Political leaders who bend to the forces that are responsible for dooming the country are your REAL traitors because they are working behind the scenes to bring down the country to line their own pockets when they retire. They are the ones who have no interest in improving the country, to make life easier and more hopeful for their people but instead look to make THEIR OWN lives easier at the expense of the people while all the time, telling their people that "all is well. Don't worry about it. We live in the Number 1 country of the world. Nothing needs fixing. The government needs to do nothing because our country is all honky-dory perfect in every way that a democracy provides." So, tell us now - who are your true Americans, the true patriots who want nothing but the very best outcome and future of the nation by polishing at it to remove all the blemishes - and who are your true traitors who tell you to go back to sleep and don't worry about a thing while the house is falling to bits around you from the termites and wood borers?

The word used about us who left the US is expat and it actually is Ex Patriot, meaning a person is no longer a patriot. Expat was used as a derogatory term to describe some one. Remember the Man Without A Country? Lt. Phillip Nolan is what most people equate with those who live outside the US. Some people feel that we have abandoned the country. Why don't we stay and "fight" to make the country better?

You are right, I just looked up the word origin.... It is Expatriate not "Ex-patriot", I still don't like the term because I don't think it defines most people that have left the US for good or for a longer time. The term is mostly used for someone that is only gone for a little bit... The word has a few different meanings and I don't think they really apply to me at this point in time.

Yep having a passport or even leaving the state you were born in, in the US, is rare. I was born in one state and raised in an adjacent state (albeit with about 2500 miles of water in between them) and that's unusual. It's most usual in fact for most Americans to not even leave the county they were born in. I've actually had a passport - it's expired right now but I plan to renew it - only through very unusual circumstances. The US is a very, very insular place.

Yes, you have to take grade level tests each year to "pass" and move to the next grade. But, the teaching is done at home with your parents. So, my mother taught me at home with my siblings and my father would test us in the evening when he got home from work and read with us at dinner (mostly the bible, but other books also). When I entered public high school, I was a straight "A" student for the first two years because I was ahead of most of the other students, but the last two years, I fell to a "B" and "C" student because I wanted to "fit in" with others.

I'm an American and I don't see you as a traitor. You are just giving your opinions on things. I feel if you love your country you should bring up the bad things, and do some productive criticism on them. To try and fix them or let the people in power that can fix it know that it needs fixing. As long as it's opinions on facts and not made up. And not let things go down hill, that's really what is happening to America. The powerful only care about their pockets. And not really about the American people.

Like it or not, the “USA! USA! USA!!” bunch must eventually acknowledge that the number of American citizens who have chosen to live out their lives abroad is increasing exponentially as time passes, and our numbers are now in the millions. We pay taxes, we vote, and most of us also follow the increasingly distressing news out of the U.S. regarding gun violence, homelessness, and the evaporation of what was once known as the American middle class, which allowed a majority of citizens to pursue their dreams while having a roof over their heads and food in their stomachs. In previous times, Americans were always taught in school that they had the freedom to determine where they chose to live. The fact that this could mean either moving from Los Angeles to Cincinnati or from Seattle to Taiwan seems to have eluded all of those who think that if an American chooses to reside outside of the borders of the United States they are traitors to the American Dream. Quite the contrary, in these days of blind conformity to political cultism that seems to be so apparent domestically, they actually exemplify it! 😉

Expressing one's opinion, when the matter at hand is subjective, and calling for improvement (or, in some cases, simply making statements of fact), when the issue is objective, is not and cannot be (imo) betrayal of a state, particularly the US... people love to throw around such weighted terms in cavalier ways.

Love hearing other perspectives. Surprised no one mentions the fact that millions of Chinese citizens (out of the billions) move abroad. Many escape the system not being able to say why out of persecution for their family members left behind. Sadly many of these migrants are of middle class origin but must leave in order to find greener pastures. China is no one’s dream destination. Whether you’re from North America, Europe, or any other continent. Visiting China you can see the overbuilding & pollution. It’s just not sustainable.

Well said!! Some of your critics should read Brave New World by Aldous Huxley - The United States and it's allies (including my country) are sliding gradually toward a Dystopian world envisaged in this novel. To call you a traitor, is, in their mindset today, a concept of the confused , propagandized people who think somehow using the word Traitor is their final insult. - Was JFK a traitor to the core concepts of power int the US ? For many, it revolves around the concept of the word "Freedom" "The Freedom to do whatever you want in your life" and how perhaps your lifestyle is a betrayal of this concept because you live in a country that is both Socialist and Capitalist - and is being painted as "the Enemy" by those in power". Freedom is a word often used to elevate a lifestyle unrestrained by Government in the West (and not those other countries) that somehow by thinking this, and using this word, we try to rise above all other values, while in reality, actually and subtly being gradually denied those perceived freedoms by those who have already attained their wealth and power and remain outside of the elected Governments.
