Yeah, at first I was a little taken aback but now that you mention it, what the Fiverr artist did was SUPER early era d&d manual style, TO A T! like, nailed the prompt. That said, there was a little disconnect it didn't look like how the commissioner envisioned and that just falls to lack of back and forth dialogue

The $500 category is really hard to pick between because they're such different styles! I think the choice would ultimately be based on what the purpose of the art was. If it was sort of a reference to look at during the game, I'd say Jazza's because the semi-realism and colors make it easier to picture each character in various scenarios. For just an art piece to display, the Fiverr artist really made something special. The use of different texture techniques and colors for each character make them all stand out, and the shapes used to fill in large areas give a great sense of movement and feeling.

Like if you take 10 hours to make something but only sell it for like, 20 dollars, you're only making 2 dollars an hour But you also should be paid for your skill. Even if it takes only 30 minutes to make something, you've spent years honing your skill to be able to do that (assuming that the drawing actually does look good and not sloppy). But this is also contradicted by how much normal people are willing to pay for your art. If you raise your prices when few people commissioned you to begin with, you'll probably be making less money than you would have before because no one would be commissioning you. I recommend keeping up multiple social media accounts and promoting yourself, and when you have a steady flow of commissions you can raise your price a little

I think both the $500 comissions are cool, but personally I'd be dissapointed if the artist failed to include the rapier and the trail of snow behind the elf. These are just personal opinions, though.

I feel like the $250 commission artist got the short end of the stick a little bit, I know it seemed a bit more simple compared to Jazza's, but that interpretation of the direction of "Tarot-style" is totally on point for a lot of the Rider Waite Tarot decks. Some Tarot decks (especially black & white deck) are SUPER detailed, but most are quite minimalistic to give the Reader room for interpretation. @@recoveringsoul755 yeah, I realised this a few weeks ago actually, whe looking at some artists that have 10k followers yet their art is awesome, they have a wide range of skills but it’s so under appreciated, then there’s a few people with 500k to 2mil followers that are “one trick ponies” where all their art is basically the same pose and hair etc except with something ever so slightly different. The main reason they have 500k+ followers is because they are gods at marketing their work and somewhat as you said, toot their own horn. I found that the $25 one was to the point and is a bit more then what you paid for (good thing). The $250 has high expectations but you still have to cut corners and some of them are noticeable. The $500 one however has high expectations like the $250 one though it is exicuted at the best of your ability. If I was the costumer I would rather go with the quick, cheap $25 or go all in and get the well exicuted $500. Keep in mind all of this is just my personal preference.

The fiver commission is a gorgeous and detailed piece, but looking at it from a mobile phone (which is how I watched the vid) almost detracted from it because its so busy I would have to zoom in to be able to truly see the details. Jazza, you’re a wonderful artist and human being. However, this video felt very off to me. Normally, you express a lot of gratitude towards other artists and their efforts, and are very supportive of them and their work. It is what I think many of us love about you! I did not see much of that throughout the video, however, and instead it came off slightly judgmental and unappreciative between you and those you work with. I believe this video was simply cut far too short to really shine as an idea, and that is where the odd vibes are stemming from. Furthermore, it felt fairly biased in regards to the “choose your favorite piece” portion, and I expected more of an analysis of what makes each piece good, and what is lacking in each piece in order to come to the conclusion they did. I believe that would’ve helped create more of a learning experience for viewers and fellow artists, and created a better air to the video itself. Overall, constructive criticism is important, and of course, my feelings are simply opinion and not fact. I love you as always, and I appreciate all your hard work to entertain us-keep up the great work!

I will start with what I disagree with you Anastasia. In my opinion, artistic fields like drawing are one of the most competitive fields, and here he is a contender, competing with other artists, That's why you see less of gratitude/appreciation and more of criticism/judgment, its the nature of a competition, its an intrinsic element of it. It is different from what Jazza is used to do normally, and this is what you noticed. So, what he did here is naturally correct, but unusual for many to see him in a competitive manner. You appear to me to be against his competitive behavior (and I might be wrong). If my assumption is true, I have to say that I use to be against competition myself and believed in cooperation only, but recently come to realize how important competition is, it should never be discouraged, its one of the primary drivers for us humans to learn and improve and for the fields we are working in to develop and flourish. And now for what I agree with you on. Having the staff rate him is wrong, as a bias towards him will consciously or unconsciously happen as there is a conflict of interest. But I think this is due to the pressure of time and the pressure to come up with new ideas.

Being a commission based artist is so difficult, trying to make ends meet with your art is difficult and trying to find that sweet spot between charging enough that you can survive and giving your client a good deal is hard. People will always try and talk you down in your price, and you might not feel your art qualifies as, say, £500. You also fear messing up and making your client upset, which in turn makes you judge your own art skills. At least, that's how I feel. I am not good enough to do commissions but the idea of doing it spikes my anxiety.
@madsnylarsen

love the idea. but i can't help thinking that there's some unfairness going on here, there's a bias in favour to Jazza since you know all the people and EVEN judging the pieces together with them, that's not fair, also the styles between Jazza and the Fiver-artist should be more comparable, i wish you guys would make a redo of this concept, ask 3 agencies for tasks, find similar artists, the agencies should feedback and commenting on the material without Jazza & Co. influence ;)... you could go a step further and have a mediator in-between Jazza and the agencies... :D- now THAT'll be a fair game sir. I'm not someone with money so the most I ever paid for a commisson was $80 and that was from an artist I personally know. Usually I cap it at $45. I think art is extremely worth it and if I were rich I'd just buy art at all levels and tip so well

Being brutally honest: I think the $500 commission turned out really good. In the past I have felt like you kind of struggle to really make things look 3 dimensional as much so that they almost pop off the page. In my opinion, 3 dimensionality in art is very important, including ambient occlusion, cast shadows and reflected light and color. All that said, I think the $500 did really pop off the page and show realistic shadows and depth. Great job👏

I dont know what level of comission artist you are, because I've had it all wrong in my head this whole time. Thank you for the knowledge and showing what art really goes for with commissions. I have never sold my art and never even tried getting commissions because I didnt think my art was worth more than $5. Now I'm seeing that the people around me have been right. When I actually put time and effort in, my art is worth more than I think. Thank you for opening my eyes.

I love this video because so much of what you said is so true and not many people think about it. Time available and the tools you are making determines in a way the range of art you will be making but of course those who do commissions are aware of that, so they price around that. I always have problems pricing my stuff right depending on what supplies and level of complexity a commission is. I loved all the three artworks you made and everything everyone else made, the $250 tier from fiver probably was short on time as well so his piece didn't have much color, still amazing art. Merry Christmas!

This is the first Jazza video I've seen in my binge watching that left a bad taste in my mouth. It felt like he was just flexing all over the other artists, and set the reveals up so his would be the chosen one. And on ALL THREE in some way he didn't listen/follow directions. He just did what he wanted to do to look cool (and sell his art box). #1 his was in color, the others weren't so his stands out. #2 Tarot was specifially requested. The artist gave her Tarot. Jazza just drew what he wanted. #3 She made it a point to mention snow and a RAPIER. Neither of those were left in. You left out the DnD characters main weapon...to draw what you wanted. Love ya Jazza, but this could have been approached and handled so much better/more professionally.

If I had the money to spend and found an artist with Jazzas style, I would absolutely pay $500 for the kind of piece he made! It’s so very intricate and detailed without being too visually loud, each of the characters show off parts of their personality in such subtle little ways.

I feel like Jazza isn't quite comparable to the $25 commissions because he has a much looser schedule than the artists, most likely, which is why he was able to add color to it as well. My favorite of the three $25 ones was the second because the artist really brought life into the pancake demon. For the $250, Jazza's certainly had much better color value, so he easily wins there, and I'd also have to agree with both winning for the $500 commission. Jazza's illustration really brought the characters to life, but the other artist's style is just incredible to look at.

I get what you say about the pay requirement Yasa. My boss started our IT consulting company as a freelancer, he used to have time to dive into the tech aspct of projects, and then he grew and now he has 7 people working for him, and he literally has not the time to dive into a tech problem like he used to (but he still does from time to time and still loves problem solving) but he does have to use his time wisely cus he has to see aspects such as taxes with our accountant, has to check payments to our suppliers, he has shit ton to do. So at least I get it and I know its not because 250$ is "below you" you just don't have the time.

It's the dollars per hour you normally get compared to how much time you could spend doing art. So if your average hourly rate works out to 1k then you can't spend an hour doing a $25 art piece, even if that's what you love doing. I wonder if your boss would love to really dig into a tech problem

It takes time to produce art. Jazza, a skilled artist spent 6 hours drawing that image at the end and you have to consider how much an hour of your artists time is worth, just like a mechanic, just like any job. You pay an artist for their time and skill and 6 hours of Jazzas time is worth quite a lot so less than $100 phr is well worth it. You are no imposter Jazza!

Having said that the quality of your drawing is very good (obviously) I also realize that this was a promotion for your art box which is why you chose this medium. I was taught to only use markers for rough mock-ups to give a client an impression of the finished work, but that was a long time ago.😕

You are a great artist and as for the commission part, if someone said they want you to do a piece for that price, they think you’re worth it. Don’t base it on what you feel about yourself but what a person is willing to pay, also don’t let it go to your head and get greedy, I think that would lower your self worth. Your art is only worth what a person is willing to pay, just like the other artist you mentioned in your video, people don’t go to their channels and commission their work, so it don’t have much worth to someone else, but to that artist he could see it as a million dollar painting. You do great work, I love when you get thrift store paintings and fix them up.

That imposter syndrome rant near the end hurt honestly. I’ve loved drawing since like early elementary school. My only issue is I feel like I’ve always lacked creativity and expressing any creativity I did have. Being in high school where everyone you know is your age or slightly above or below, it killed my drive seeing people I knew be so good at art and creating their own things and it looking amazing, and i look at my own drawings and realize I could only copy, look at an image on my phone and just redraw it on a regular sheet of paper. I wish I was as good at art as you are. I’m 21 and I only draw Pokémon for my girlfriend pretty much. Clearly you’ve been able to push through these mind struggles which is amazing
