The only time I sleep through the night is after a long nerve wracking drive (task related fatigue). Otherwise my sleep stinks.

I go to bed at 9:30 and wake up at 2:38 every night. Lately I’m more successful than not at getting back to sleep. I’m going to try going to bed at 10 or 10:30 to see what happens.

My husband's oxygen levels have improved after using a CPAP machine for 6 weeks, but his REM and Deep sleep continue to be low: about one hour each per night. What is your advice? Our doctor only wants to prescribe tradezone.

I wake up about 2-3 times per night. It just seems to me that as I age my body needs less sleep time naturally. Perhaps we should accept this. I feel the only reason we don't accept this is due to modern society. If left to my own devices... I would sleep from 9 to 1, 2 to 4, and 5 to 8. That would give me fine restful sleep. But because I have to get up at 6 to get to work... I don't get the sleep I should. Perhaps medical providers should start putting pressure on employers to start later.

What is your question?

Not helpful at all. Waking early is a major problem for hundreds of millions of people in the world over age 50. Why does a "sleep expert" just presume that their issue is going to bed too early ? Because the real issue is too complex and un-fixable without extreme measures. Some are combination of drugs tailored to ones genetics but due to tolerance these need cycled in a very complex manner. Also helpful are expensive aircon temperature reduction systems for the bedroom and EEG feedback control machinery which hasnt been developed properly yet unless you are nerd enough to DIY these systems from academic papers. Because the issue is likely from age related changes to sleep architecture forming regions in the brain not producing the same hormones and neurotransmitters, not pumping out sleep ripples as well, in combination with changes in enzymes for neurochemistry, and cellular metabolism and waste clearance mechanisms.. that mean one cant feel as capable from less sleep as when younger. There is also likely genetic factors such as how active ones mind is in sleep due to REST protein, MAOB and many others which make our individual neurochemistry. This requires tailored genetic profiling of each person and regular blood testing in combination with nights in a sleep lab to correlated expected activation EEG patterns for those profiles sorted by Ai. And this equipment would be required at home for a feedback control system, however this isnt easy as it needs MATLAB to run it right now. It would be great if we could have a sleep doctor site which really gets into the level of required depth to do this complex topic full justice. And this is just some of the biology, for the psychology each person would need to consider complex psychological profiling and life re-structuring coaches. In reality to get effective, sustainable and lasting results tailored to each person which withstand further ageing and disease is a major resource hog project to undertake.
