Stormy, you’re one of the people who inspired me to join the model horse community and being able to create content alongside you has been a dream come true 💞 This hobby would be at an absolute loss without you but everything you said in this video I’d 100% valid 👏🏼 I’m very proud of you for sharing this with us 🥺

I am so,so sorry to learn that your mom has passed.A terrible loss,would knock almost anyone for a loop.I'm glad that you have been going to therapy and that it's helping you.Finding the right therapist can take time,as I know all too well in my personal experience with it;it seems you've found the right person and I'm glad of it. On the happier side,how wonderful that you've found someone you want to share your life with! That's huge and I wish you much happiness now and in future! I was out of the hobby for some time,years actually,as I too had a lack of space and my horses were in boxes in the closet,getting dinged up because I hadn't packed them properly and I had also played with them,as I started collecting when I was 8 or 9.My first Breyer was the bay Running Foal and he cost a whopping $3,brand new from the toy store.Most of them didn't even come in boxes of any kind at the time,lol.Sounds weird,now.My taste in models has shifted as well,I'm much more open to decorators and glossies,and I've adopted the attitude that if I am going to buy a model,I'm going to buy the ones I REALLY want,even if it's more expensive.Like you,I don't want to look at rows and rows of models and not be able to see anything but their faces;I want to see all of the model and enjoy how beautiful it is.An example is choosing a three figure Bolero,from another collector,over the newly issued Mojave at about $100 less.I liked Mojave but loved(!!!)Bolero and knew I'd hanker after him if I didn't get him. I'm also focusing on breeds I'm strongly attracted to,and for a while now that's been Iberian horses,and breeds derived from them:Andalusians,Lusitanos,Paso Finos and so on.Big change from my earlier collecting habits,and I'm enjoying it very much!

Views, dreams, favourite songs, and hobbies certainly, will shift over the course of a life. Especially in the face of hard times be they emotional or financial... If your interests don't grow and change with your life, well then you may not be living it, ya know? I've been thinking of you often since your mother passed, and wondering how you were coping. But since I don't know you well, I didn't want to seem intrusive. I'm SO glad you've met someone who seems so kind and supportive. If he can stand by you in the face of everything you've endured this year, then it sounds like's on the short list for a keeper. Those types are worth their weight in gold. In terms of the hobby, I admit I am sort blessed by my lack of space. I can only have so many models as I want to be able to display them all. I indulged over the lockdowns and probably purchased too many, but I was also in the midst of learning I have ADHD and possibly Autism. I was using it as a way to comfort myself, and to give that inner child that was screaming for help for like, four decades, acknowledgement that her needs were real, and her wants were valid. I wasn't permitted to have many of those, and I masked for most of my life very well. So I allow myself my special interest, but try to temper it. I sell as I go, as my wants within the hobby change, and as space allows... It must be much more difficult to reconcile when you use your hobby as partly a source of income at least in regards to RU-vid. It's a fine line to walk between what you know will bring views and likes, and wanting to try new things as a creative person. Also too, you want to move on with your life. You're young and have SO much ahead of you. Some day, you may come back to Breyers with a passion when the nostalgia hits you as you age... Or you may not. That's okay. Because growth and change are what we are meant to do as humans. I am certain that there will be a few you always will always pick up (Halloween horses, amirite?), but you're also allowed to want to focus your time and income on other things... Just let us know how you're doing every once in awhile. We care about you.

Thank you for sharing your story and perspective! ♥ My boyfriend is definitely a keeper. I knew shortly after dating him that I got extremely lucky to find someone so kind and supportive. Models Horses playing such a big part in the videos I make does add a different layer to the collecting aspect. How I collect may have been different if I didn't start doing RU-vid as a job however many years ago (or it may not have changed much, who knows!) Regardless of where the future may take me, I will try to check in every so often. For now, I hope I can still stay somewhat active on RU-vid and share some of the projects I've really been wanting to work on.

I can certainly understand why your interests have changed, especially over the course of this year. I am so sorry that your mom died this spring. On a positive note, however, I am happy to hear that you now have a boyfriend! I pray that he sees in you the kind, smart, creative person who we all see! As for personal changes in the hobby, I first started off collecting to play. Once I learned about the RU-vid model horse hobby, I began following Breyer filmmakers on RU-vid and even tried to create my own series. However, I let my crippling perfection keep me from following through with my desire to do so. Later on, I learned about model horse showing and I got HOOKED although I could only show sporadically. Showing has become sort of a luxury between moving as a child, entering college as an adult, and the events of 2020 decreasing live shows exponentially. Model horse photography was another aspect of the hobby I was trying to get into. During 2020, though, I left IG due to the unhealthy amount of drama on there, and photography has taken a backseat ever since. If there was any silver lining in my "social media distancing" from IG, it has been my inspiration to make more model horse videos on RU-vid again. What a wild ride! XD

Hi Stormy, I'm sorry to hear the sad news about your mom. I took care of my mom for a long time. She passed away on 8-18-21. I loved my mom with all my ❤️. We had a deep understanding of each other so I have no guilt or anything of that sort. She loved breyer just like me and we both love animals ie: cats, dogs and horses. I think about her and pray for her everyday. I'm alone now with my cat and my massive breyer collection. Take care! Joel C.

I got my first Breyer at the age of 5 and started seriously collecting at the age of 10. Over the years my interest in the hobby was come and go, with the biggest break being my first couple of years at college. I wasn't sure if I would ever come back to the hobby, but I eventually did last year and am so happy I did. My interests have changed since coming back, instead of collecting for quantity I started to collect what I like, and turns out he hobby is much more fun that way! I've also met some friends in the hobby which definitely helps. I think everyone's hobby journey is unique; at the end of the day, you have to do what feels right for you!

That's the only upside of not being able to buy/ find every model I want. We have no stores here and the models available are usually very expensive. So I kinda have the benefit of having a smaller collection. Also I'm super happy for you that you found your soulmate and that you two already have future plans! ^-^ And I'm totally up for dinosaur related stuff! •0• I would love to buy one of your horses just to have a special one! My interest in the hobby has definitely waxed and waned over time! I've been collecting since 2006 and there are definitely years where my collecting comes to a standstill. I have multiple interests outside of the model horse hobby (fandoms and cosplay being two big ones that take a lot of time) so despite my love for it, I can never devote all my time to it and that's okay! I've also found that the hobby has become SO COMPETITIVE in recent years, which has been stressful and contributed to my taking a step back.

I am so sorry you lost your mom. You are such an amazingly talented young lady. I got out of collecting and sold nearly my whole collection over 400 models mostly traditionals my favorite as well. I returned to collecting and could not believe how much it cost me to replace certain models I had. I am 50 and could not imagine leaving the hobby again. I am also a talented artist and enjoy customizing but mental health issues and getting my hands severly frostbit slows me down from that especially in winter as I have no place to safely prime and spraypaint models. I also miss being a farrier and having my real horses. Hopefully I can get back into doing that again and getting another real horse. For now I love admiring my models. My boyfreind of 6 years has also supported my hobby even buys some for me! I hope to meet you at breyerfest sometime if I ever can get there.

There was a time that I didn't collect as I wasn't able to afford on my own, and my family didn't purchase any for me. Once I was more financially stable, I started joining the collector club, and would purchase the models through that. Just this year I was able to go to Breyerfest (and went a little nuts on purchasing) and I decided to join the 2023 Stablemates club and I wanted to be part of something but I don't have the clubs for the Vintage Club or the Premier Club. I've been focused on Disney Trading Pins and that's slowed down too...I'm picky about what I want to collect with that. I've seriously struggled with mental health for a few years now, and while I don't purchase many models anymore...they are the closest thing I have to a real horse, and I would like to do more with them in the future. I applaud you for taking care of yourself and putting yourself first. I know it can be really really hard to do sometimes.
@StormyStrikeVideos

I understand the feeling of model horses being as close as someone can get to a real horse. As fun as having a real horse would be, it's just not something I could do in my life right now. I also collect Disney pins! I'm going to do an updated collection tour of those at some point, but that is also something I've slowed down on since Covid and me and my mom couldn't do pin trading in the parks together anymore. Thank you for sharing your story ❤

This is such an interesting topic, and one we don’t talk about very much as a hobby. I started collecting as a kid in the early 2000’s, went to my first Breyerfest in 2000. My aunt and I shared the hobby, along with showing real horses, and it was a big part of what we did together. She passed away in 2020 from cancer and it’s been hard to navigate the hobby without her, even with a group of incredible friends to support me. It’s also made me realize how quickly horses accumulate and the overwhelming feeling that can come from that. Being faced with death makes you think about the burden that you could possibly leave to others with liquidating your items when you pass. I also think that for certain people (myself included!), the “FOMO” can be pretty negative on your mental health. I’ve tried to take a step back and be realistic about what I really “need”. I collect mostly rarities and that translates to a lot of money that I feel can be put to other uses at this stage in my life. Great video!

This made me emotional. This was beautifully spoken and it's for certain an interesting topic to discuss! I feel a lot of us go through this, no matter what hobby you're in. I also tend to go through months where my focus is on other things besides my model horses and I'm just not as active, but then get fully back in it. But just like you, I don't think I could ever stop fully collecting or being in the hobby, I love it and I always will. My model horses will always be special to me. It's just sometimes, due to life and other priorities, my focus has been on other things. You are such an inspiration, Stormy! Thank you for making this.

With model horses I have been getting a lot more picky of what I get. I might sell some down the road from now. I’ve really been interested in the Breyer aurora plush horses now. Another hobby I have is playing double bass now I had my mindset of wanting to play professionally because my great aunt did, I never even met her, but then I realized who am I doing this for, myself or my great aunt. I’m not quitting my double bass but I’m not going for professional player anymore I just play for fun.

I really get this video- I’ve been feeling similar lately. I’m trying not to buy every release, I want to wait and purchase things (potentially more expensive things) that will make me happier than having a bunch of models for a cheaper price that don’t mean as much to me. I would really like to appreciate all of my models, and having so many can be difficult. With that being said, I’d still like to purchase a few that I really love.

Understood why I haven’t see much from you on RU-vid. I have depression, it is an energy drainer. As far as hobbies I originally started out with My Little Ponies in the 1980’s . I really wanted to keep my the ones I had when I became a teenager but pressure from my family to “ grow up “ I had to give my younger sisters most of my collection of them. I didn’t know about Breyer horses until the late eighties, when my sisters ( actually 1/2 sisters) were given some by their great aunt. I got my first model in the 90’s with this Mustano. My collection has gone from small to a bit larger then to smaller as in I’ve moved so many times. I’ve lost many in a move. I now have lived in a small apartment for several years and have started to collect again. Both Breyer and My Little Pony. I don’t have enough room to really expand my Breyers , like you I have to collect what I really love as per room I don’t have.

Please accept my condolences. I know that in part these are "empty" words that do not reflect even a fraction of sympathy, but I'm really sorry. Last year, in 2022, I lost two of my close friends during a "special military operation." I just feel that morally it's like I stayed with these people, and now only my shell continues to live. I have lost touch with many people, and I understand that it will be impossible to return it. After all these situations, it's as if I can no longer fully experience the childish delight in horse models that I had before. It's very sad and very painful, because this hobby has always been something like an island of tranquility, to which I can return when I feel mentally tired. However, now this very island seems to me desecrated, because most of it was made up of people who are no longer alive. 2022 is like a huge knife that divided my life into "before" - happy and partly naive and "After" - cold and aloof. I'm tossing around in my mind and I don't know where to put myself.
