When overpriced burger joints know that a good majority of people are dumb enough to pay whatever they want them to, they feel emboldened to release any crap that comes to mind
In my opinion, an original "real" patty melt is a beef patty with Swiss cheese and grilled onions on lightly toasted rye bread. The best patty melt I've ever had was a beef patty with Swiss cheese on top, American cheese on the bottom, grilled onions, on toasted white bread with thousand island dressing.
It's basically the same thing McDonalds does by mixing what they have available to try to make something new without actually adding anything different.
The companies are losing sales and customers, so they try and make gimmick items to boost interest back up. They're counting on the consumer going "WOOAW NEW ITEM MUST BUY!!!". Of course the reason why the sales are dropping is because the food has major quality and pricing issues. But until the companies admit that, we'll keep getting disgusting frankenitems like the one above
To be fair to taco bell, that describes most Mexican cuisine in the US. It's all the same ingredients (beans, rice, choice of meat, and cheese/guacamole) in different shapes. It true whether you're paying $30 per entree or grabbing a $2 snack at 2am.
Certainly more of a Pity Melt. It's a pity the buns aren't grilled. It's a pity there's only one kind of cheese. And it's a pity they're charging $10 for it.
Is 5guys expensive and overpriced? Yes they are. But (at least in my area) it’s the same price as their cheeseburger. It would be a scam if they charged more for the patty melt.
So I’m pausing this at the 2:24 mark to predict the price before ReviewBrah says it. It’s Five Guys. I’m going to predict this patty melt is going to be $117.35 without drink or fries. Let’s see if I’m right.
The nibble The 2nd nibble The chalice The side glance The insect story The suspense is killing me!!! If it’s not on rye bread, is it even a patty melt? I’ve heard of American cheese on a patty melt but I do believe a traditional is with Swiss cheese.
Reviewbrah nailed this review! That is a totally bogus item. Wrong bread (you need rye), wrong cheese (you need Swiss cheese) and missing an ingredient (grilled onions). They couldn’t even manage to fry the bun to crispy. A total failure.
Rye bread and swiss cheese is only a requirement for a Reuben; a patty melt can be made with any bread and any cheese, provided that the cheese is melted on the patty and not on the bread (so in all likelihood, that's something else they screwed up). Grilled onions, however, are a requirement, and you're totally correct with that "good enough" job they did frying the bread that isn't really even good enough.
I disagree with almost everything you just stated. A Patty melt does not need rye bread, Swiss cheese nor onions. Those are all preferences, not requirements. I will agree with one of the buns being horribly grilled, but when you get it to go like that, even a perfectly grilled bun will be soft. Heat creates condensation which makes the bun soft.
@@thatmayday No an official patty melt is toasted rye bread with burger and swiss with grilled onions. That said I prefer the rye and pumpernickel swirl bread with american chesse and grilled onions. Perfection.
Every time I’m preparing food at my house, I will watch your videos while I’m waiting. Then, I will pause the video until I’m ready to sit and eat. As I sit down with my food, I press play again and I swear, it’s like on queue, you are saying “it’s goin’ in”. Almost feels like I’m not eating by myself. Always nice to share a bite with ya, my friend.
Yesterday I was busy. I thought to myself, "I'm in the mood for a fast food treat tonight......Nope, I'm not dropping $10+ for unenjoyable garbage." Then you drop this video that basically sums up how I feel whenever I consider eating fast food.
I spent $12 at McDonald’s the other day after not having eaten fast food for months. Considered it a treat - I got a McDouble w/cheese (two patties, one slice of cheese), a 10-piece McNugget, and a small french fry. That’s all. $12. Now, the double w/cheese is worth it, you are getting about as much meat & cheese as a Quarter Pounder but less bun (a 👍🏻 in my book) , but I did notice the nuggets are thinner than ever, noticeably so. I thought maybe it was one or two, but all ten were much thinner than the last time I had one (years ago). My last complaint, when did FF places stop salting the fries??? Luckily I keep a few packs of condiments like ketchup and salt for these kindds of situations. Overall, B+ on the burger, D for the nuggets, and F on the fries before I salted them, then only a B.
@@vincedibona4687 Reslistically, you should have paid $7 for what you ordered. That isn't even taking into account that they shrank the sizes. As for the burger, each patty is 1/10 of a pound pre cooked. 1/5 of a pound vs the 1/4 pound. They used to make up for it with a better overall price, but now? IDK. You could have gotten a lot more at a full service restaurant for the same $12. The food would have been better too.
Food aside, thank you for your kind words on Paul's final video a while back. He's a great guy and will be missed, and I think it was very respectable of you to pop in there and pay your respects. Thanks John.
That looks completely plastic & unappealing. Are you sure you weren't served the demonstration model? They inverted the buns of a normal cheeseburger ... brilliant.
YES,, You are missing something....A Patty Melt..Because that is NOT one,, It is as you said,, Just a regular cheeseburger..You got Bamboozled Reviewbrah.
@@RT-qd8yl How did you not know what a blue heron is? It is the big blueish one. You know, one of the few birds that appears as though it is walking on stilts? Or maybe I am confused and that is a turkey.
I just had Patty Melt at Freddy’s yesterday. Rye bread, Swiss, grilled onions, ask for extra, not extra charge, Combo. 10.00 incl fries or new tater tots(delish) an drink. Grilled to perfection.
Maybe Five Guys thought that the appeal would be the upside down buns, like people would go, "Ooh, the buns are upside down! Isn't that interesting? You don't see that everyday... So cool! Mmm, it still tastes like a cheeseburger but doesn't look like one - this is so fun! This whole experience was worth a whole $10!"
"If it looks like a Cheeseburger, smells like a Cheeseburger & tastes like a Cheeseburger" But it's called a "Patty-Melt ?" - Sounds your Typical Government Politician at Work.
I was a short order cook as a teenager and the key to a good patty melt is balance: a hamburger on grilled rye topped with swiss and grilled/smothered onions . I've found processed cheeses add too much richness to it and overpower the whole thing.
Yep, good quality meat too. I can make a perfect burger in about five minutes at home. I keep 1lb bricks in my freezer and always have ground beef available to use. I eat about 5 burgers a week at a cost of about $1 a burger. Here’s a pro tip…keep a package of precooked bacon in the fridge 😉
Jack in the box usually has something like this every year, their sourdough bread with a large beef patty, grilled onions and 2 slices of cheese. When I use to work there I would make this for myself alot because I liked it so much
A properly executed sourdough jack is a thing of beauty. I used to ask for mine toasty just to make sure. Carls tried to do it but they just steamed the bread….
You didn't mention if yours had grilled onions. With no grilled onions, it would have been just a cheeseburger. The addition of those is the main difference between a cheeseburger and a patty melt. Also, patty melts are traditionally served on rye toast, but they are not necessarily known for crunchiness, not like grilled cheese sandwiches anyway. I like to add tomato slices to my patty melts, and thousand island dressing. There was a restaurant (don't remember the name) that called that sandwich combination a "Frisco Melt".
The bug leads me to think that you are used to dealing with important issues, those hard hitting problems that confront us in today's society. Stay in charge my hero!
10 bucks? two slices of bread, a single patty, and cheese? Go F off 5 Guys!! I used to love this place, then they cut back on the fries they give and ramped up the prices. Done with the place. Shake Shack makes a better burger anyway, and 4 bucks less expensive (single vs single burger).
Lol, there really isn't much difference. I think there's more cheese on it. It's still the same burger, the same bun, just upside down. That's it, lol. I love Five Guys though. They have the tastiest beef. The hack I believe is more for the price. I don't have this on my local menu yet, I still have the grilled cheese and you can add a patty to it. It's $10 by me for the grilled cheese with an added patty, where is if I just ordered the cheeseburger, it's $11.29. Make that one make sense.
I really don't see the point in getting this thing either, it's just a scuffed cheeseburger. And people would be better served going to Culver's or Steak n Shake for a patty melt, at least from a fast food place
Just looking at the thumbnail i knew it was Five Guys it's like they baseball pitch your sandwich into the wall a few times before stepping on it then put it in the bag. They're beyond overhyped for the price and quality especially in California where you have in and out as an option.
Rye bread plus caramelized onions of course….. come on five guys call things by their name . That is just like Reviewbruh said’ just a grilled cheese with a hamburger patty’
@4:30 -- yeah, can confirm... that's a cheeseburger. I heard your description and thought I misunderstood... but no, i heard correctly... they just named it wrong 🤣😂🤣🤪🤪
still haven't clipped those claws eh man? smh. i do not understand why, especially handling all that food and all that bacteria that builds up in the nails is not the best idea to be handling food.
A real Patty melt is supposed to have grilled onions, and cheddar cheese, not American cheese, and yes, the bread is supposed to be crunchy and toasted on the grill.
