My associaton w/ David and Paul has been educational and positive and they have both been so supportive of me. Yes; I built that test guitar while consulting for Collings, and David, Paul and I used it on the DGT pickup thing. But here's the thing about David and Paul: They are both VERY tonally aware. ( !!!) David has been in my shop, and shown me his ability to "squeeze" tone out of a messed up acoustic guitar to the point of making my jaw drop. E. Johnson showed me that too, way back when ... . I may have helped these folks, but they have all been my teachers (in the extreme). Paul and David are both generous, open, and real. The reason the DGT is so good is their unending dedication to excellence, and the openness, and DRIVE ( both analytical and instinctual) that's needed to go above and beyond. Thanks for mentioning my name, David. That's nice. What's more nice is to be gifted w/ knowing folks like you and Paul. There's not one HINT of mediocrity, settling for less, or complacency with those two. Just 2 guys continously pushing the envelope. .... Pretty cool.
Players like Tim can make ANY guitar sound like top shelf instruments. Players like me can make a top shelf instrument sound like a child’s plastic toy.
Grissom is one of those dudes...like kind of unknown, but respected... He's been doing it for a long time, I did some sessions with him... Really good, tasteful, 'play for the song' kind of guy. He's got it in the hands. His notes are HIS. Am so happy he's getting the recognition he really deserves.
Tim, your playing is such an inspiration! Beautiful guitar, beautiful playing. PRS put out a video with Paul speaking about pickup design. They had a guitar body with the slide in pickup thing and alligator clips like David was talking about. So cool. Thanks for the content!
at least its cheaper than the John mayer PRS strat copy... Give me a 1980s Japanese "strat" any day [ fernandes/Tokai ].. or even a newer Van Zandt strat..which you can pick up s/h in Tokyo for 1000usd
I don’t know why but I’ve never played a PRS that wowed me or felt good. It actually bums me out because they’re great guitars and I use to dream of owning one.
I've always stood in awe of PRS guitars. As a teenage guitar nut in Maine in the 80's I got to see very few examples and they were all hand built masterpieces way above my price range. Glad that PRS has made gear that is more financially accessible for the average person. Would LOVE to win this guitar, but truthfully it's right at the price point of my next purchase consideration, an Epiphone 59 Les Paul Standard Outfit.
What Tim has effectively done here is ensure (potentially 400k strong) that the new PRS DGT SE will be difficult to obtain. I hope Paul has foreseen this up-tick in sales and adjusted accordingly to meet demand. David and Paul made the gold standard available in an SE. This is a win win situation. Tim, longtime fan.🎸🇺🇸
Such a SWEET guitar! Yours is the third video I've seen featuring the PRS SE DGT, but the FIRST to be giving one away! Thank you for the chance to win one of these stellar instruments!
What a FANTASTIC channel. I found your channel through Rick Beato and am so glad I did. Thank you for sharing your amazing talent and knowledge to the world and helping bring some colorful music to this messed up world. Keep on doing what your doing and love life, my brother.
Love this video and the full circle of beginning core to the se with a DG interview. I now own one and feel inspired to get better because it so much better than I am. Don’t we all want to be inspired to pick it up and practice? Thank you Tim . Beginner course enrolled.
Damn, Jimmy Page is so effing killer. Has there ever been a rock electric guitar writer like J. Page? Just so many guitar nuggets and jewels in every piece (even if a few might be embellishments on some other tunes.)
I got the chance to meet David Grissom when he was playing with Storyville. I was working at JT guitars when Tommy Shannon was an endorsee between Fender stints. David Holt, Chris Layton, Malford and Tommy were all really great to hangout with and chat. David Grissom always gave me the vibe like he'd preferred not to be bothered. Super talented band though, really good stuff. I think Korg forced them at gun point or threat of violence to play Parker Fly guitars but they were absolute pros.
Has more character than I usually associate with PRS guitars. Or at least it does when Tim plays it through a vintage cab! Very nice guitar for the money.
People venerate instagram players like mateus asato and others.. but with all respect.. tim is just awesome.. his notes are just very spot on. Very good taste and feel.
I've owned several PRS SE models. They're good guitars, but by far the best sub $1000 model I've played to date is a Shijie. SE models feel like a mid tier guitar. The Shijie I have feels and plays like a custom shop guitar.
The prs it’s for Shure a beast, but Tim you are a natural compressor for guitar’s a guitar from good to astonishing are all astonishing in your hands..❤
The one brand I’ve been waiting for. Some tour guitarists I personally know use the DGT on the road but not in the studio for some reason. I still want one. I like the scale it’s shorter than a Strat and a tiny bit longer than most high end Gibsons.
Reminds me a bit of what happened when another guitar company leaned in with a demanding master guitarist and innovator whose name became synonymous with a guitar many players wanted-- even if they didn't know the namesake. Les Paul: meet DGT. (Gold tops, of course.)
Not saying this guitar isn’t great, and not saying that Tim doesn’t believe what he’s saying here…but I am saying this is the first one of his videos I’ve seen that makes me feel like it’s a 100% shill job. Never going to knock anyone for getting paid, I just don’t feel the genuineness in this video that I do in a lot of Tim’s other gear reviews.
Great video Tim... getting the history on this guitar was really cool. I've been on the fence regarding buying an SE or S2 or a Vela for a couple years, but I prefer Strat type guitars... and just never liked the bird inlays... this one... no birds... I'm in like Flynn! If I didn't just buy a Jeff Beck Strat (RIP GOAT on a Strat, and just about anything) I'd be getting one of these! I'll be in my Jeff Beck coma for a while now while I try to absorb this horrible news and basically try to learn to play his music... what a huge loss! And thanks for that tribute video with Beato!🤘 💔🎸
Hi Tim. Sorry to break the subject in this thread. Great videos been following you for years. My first encounter with you was Me & Johnny. Been a fan ever since. Just a request for a video on that particular song. Some of the best style hendrix playing i´ve ever heard. I´m amazed how you always seem to capture essence the songs all the way from Rick S to The Weekend. Thanks for doing what you do. best wishes RS
Huge fan of the PRS brand. Their quality is unequalled in the industry across the board--from their affordable models to their not-so-affordable works of art.
I have 2 PRS guitars - a core 594 semi hollow and a 594 S2 thinline. Both beautifully made - apart from the electronics. The S2 had a faulty selector switch and the Core had a faulty volume pot. Now they have been fixed, I love them but I would not say their quality is unequalled.
I'll give them an "A" for the consistency of the Core line, but they'd better be for the money. The SEs? Nothing more exceptional than many other Asian-made brands.
Looks like a great guitar no doubt. But being subscribed to multiple guitar YT channels, I’m getting DGT SE overload now…. No wonder they’re not in stock….
Hey Tim. This is a long shot brotha...but hey just thought I'd ask...my name is Shannon Monroe, and I've been a subscriber of yours for a few years now. Anywho...I was and still am the biggest Rick Springfield fan...so I'm 53 yrs old now... never seen him live...always wanted to. I'm from Louisiana but now live in Michigan for the last 10 yrs....anyway... He is playing tomorrow night saturday the 28th at Fire keepers casino in Battle Creek, Michigan. It's only 40 mins from my house....just my luck..its sold out. I know you and Rick are still good friends because I've seen him on a few of your streams on your channel. You probably wouldn't won't to ask him for a ticket for me because you don't know me like that...but if it's at all possible....man I would just be forever greatful....and I'd be happy to pay for the ticket if he could swing a couple tickets for me and my gf...I will definitely pay for them..... the casino says they are sold out.....ok anyways sorry for being long-winded here. Keep up the great videos and awesome guitar content Tim. You are definitely appreciated. Also, thanks for even reading this. Shannon
