I love these “boring” videos. I lost a lot of mobility in my right arm with a torn labrum and a bad rotator cuff I can’t sim race anymore without pain, and the loss of mobility means my reaction time is awful. These “boring” races soothe me and remind me of what I enjoyed about sim racing. Sometimes it’s just about hitting your marks, and that’s ok with me.

Dave, Just got back from my first trip to Road Atlanta. Weather was fantastic and lots of good races. “Good fun” as you would say. The sim doesn’t capture what a roller coaster the track really is. The downhill after turn 3 is more like a cliff. I hope you get to visit some day.

similar thing happened to me on 12h bathurst, ferrari dropped in front of me, i thought our race is over but then the car just flipped and we passed underneath it :D

Clean drivers with race craft at a high level are a pleasure to watch. Its a shame many are not like that. Thinking now your an oval legend too you could do a few 5 minute videos on the basics.

Still work to do with the crash model as it does not always apply damage to all cars involved. In one instance in the global MX5 cup car I hit a car that was almost stopped on track. It destroyed my front end but he drove off with no damage!

As usual excellent racing Dave. Of course you didn't have me and Julie to let you pass easy like we do in the league races. 😉 Crew Chief does tend to overfuel a bit, but better that than running out before the line. Your races are never boring as I learn a lot from them. Keep up the good work. 👍

Are some cars faster because they are better suited to the track, because the drivers set them up better or because the drivers are more skilled? Hard to see what matters the most. Even without a lot of "carnage" still a fun video. Thanks!!

This comment is just after 2 lap but will of course continue to watch the rest of the race. Two things though; 1 - How are you still breathing and not 6 feet under as there is no way you should've survived if that was a real crash instead of just passing through him like a ghost. 2 - I can see how good drivers like this track and I like a couple of bits on it too but for a lower level driver that is not that good on the sim, I find there is way too many blind corners and blind crests. The best track in the world is a bit of a stretch, especially with so many good tracks in the world whether they be on the sim or not. I know every has an opinion and likes different things but the best tracks in the world are good for all different types of drivers. Blind corners and crests are great on a track but not as many as this track has. Fun to drive but IMO, not even close to being the best.

What does net code mean fellas? How did that accident not happen? Would be great if they would do this to lapped cars trying to race first 3 positions. Often their lack of break control brings them into the back of us at say Andretti Turn. Or Amy 1st or 2cd gear turn. Caught my first DQ last night, raced a nearly perfect race but a few lapped cars were racing us at first 3 positions. The result were DQs for 2/3 race leads. Their race is already shotout, so im assuming there frusterstion was soothed by taking us down with them? Whereas mine knots up in a ball of nausea. If I can't make it through to cleaner racing soon, I'm gonna have to find another platform to race on. Or level through no matter how boring time trials maybe? Idk.

I was 2 wide through that same corner in the esses last night with a guy, needless to say there was a big pile up but on the replay we had given each other nearly a full car width of room, netcode got us and reacted as if we had made contact. I'm glad it worked in your favour on this occasion.

I have a minor point of contention, and I hate to be a commenter with nitpicks... BUT, if you were on a sports cast, and you were hosting or commenting; When you did your leaderboard recap at the end and announced the biggest loser: You stated that ,"[someone] finished last..." In reality they DNF'd. You are correct in that they are last, but my OCD gets a little triggered when you said they 'finished' which is opposite of what happened.

I wonder why iRacing instists on this nonsense, unrealistic proposition that in order to save fuel, you're encouraged to declutch. What? Everyone knows that engines require fuel to keep running on idle. They require very little fuel to do that, but they do burn fuel while idling. On the contrary, all cars with fuel injection (= all cars since about Middle Ages, for you and me :)), cut off injection while engine braking (because the engine is kept rotating by the drive-train anyway). So, the true-to-reality way to save fuel is to get the car rolling at some speed, and then to lift-off -- obviously, you'd do it in as high a gear as possible, since the main engine-braking effect (i.e.: slowing down) is not what you're after. Not to mention that it would be stupid to strain the drive-train by diconnecting the engine from the wheels and reconnecting it without any good reason for that. At higher speeds, this might even be somewhat dangerous, as the car would inevitably get upset a little on account of that extremely narrow biting-point range of a racing clutch.

By clutching you're effectively bringing the car into idle (and burning a tiny bit of fuel) in an instance where otherwise you'd be on the throttle still and burning a lot more fuel. This is why it saves fuel. In this video you can see Dave coast from the top of the small crest until he needs to start braking - if he just backed off at that point instead he'd lose a ton of time.
