Totally appropriate punishment. It doesn't matter that prom happens once for their child because a high-school experience only happens once for the child that she bullied & that's gone. Possibly life long trauma. Also, talking with the other bully parents only works if you were already friends with those parents because parents you don't know well get super defensive about their child, even when the child is the problem.

It’s a shame that kids bully other kids, some of the bullying is so bad that kids have committed suicide because of how bad the bullying is! Totally agree with punishing your kids that bully other children! It doesn’t matter if the bullying is mild or severe, it shouldn’t be tolerated in any way, shape or form!! The bully doesn’t realize the emotional effect that bullying leaves on their victims!

Tough love. But there are instances where bullying leads to unspeakable actions. And the fact that the other student had to move schools and if my kid was involved…. I think it’s an appropriate punishment.

If you aren’t aware already, they have cheese fries as well! Lol Also , I don’t think the parent is doing too much. I think that will teach them a lesson in life. If they made the student switch schools, that means it could’ve gone worse if it continued.

VERY Interesting topic. I think the parents made the right decision. As a parent of an about to be 19yr old daughter I would've probably done most of if not everything they did. I think most parents have this weird obsession nowadays of being their childs friend and not their parent.... It's important to have a comfortable relationship with our kids so they're not afraid to confide in us about certain things however, we need to make sure our kids understand firstly I'm your parent and not your friend. Once they understand this they'll think twice about being involved in or contributing to certain behaviors. You're absolutly correct our children are a reflection of us. Social media also has alot to do with these behaviors as well. High school is a once in a lifetime thing as well ! If they give her what she wants she won’t respect them or there authority anymore! She was part of a group so no I don’t think it was to much heck as a parent it’s hard enough to raise good kids and when your kid want to be part of something knowing it’s wrong then she knew what she was doing !I feel even if it a hard punishment they need to fallow throw so maybe next time she does something she shouldn’t she’ll know her parents aren’t playing!

From someone who is 19 and was bullied younger in elementary still dealing with the trauma and it once envovling race I think the punishment was appropriate . Though in saying that for the Instagram You can save photos and then delete it so I think that something that could have been implemented but yeah children get expelled for bullying and prom gets taken away so the fact that the school didn't restict the child from going says something about the school or the situation. All in all I hope that child learned the lesson above all

Kids don’t always get bad behavior from the home, parents etc. I have two grown kids and if it’s in the kid to be a certain way that’s not a reflection of the parent. I use to say the same as other people hmm they must get that from home until something personal happened in my home with my daughter! In my situation the friends and social media was the influence!! Not us as parents.

I am a teacher and we take bullying very seriously because a lot of children have committed suicide so when it comes down to bullying,it’s a crime and if the child that she bullied had committed suicide, the parents will be responsible for any damages in or facing jail time.

NTA, but I don’t think this type of consequence is really the right way to do it. Change their IG password, so only the parents have access to it. But don’t erase those memories forever. No homecoming.. I am not from the US, we don’t have all of this so correct me if I’m wrong… homecoming is every year in HS right? That’s not as special as senior prom, when you’re graduating high school. No homecoming is okay imo. No car is also alright bc imo that’s a privilege, but this could also be „negotiable“. (not the word i’m looking for but i can’t think of the right word rn.) But senior is prom is a big deal in the US and they’ll think about that for the rest of their lives. Some might argue that’s the goal. While I think you let them go. Punishment just leads to resentment, fearing the parent, and becoming better at whatever they’re not „supposed“ to do. And does it make someone understand why it’s wrong, what is wrong about, and what bullying can lead to? I don’t think so. They have to understand. Also, why is someone bullying another kid? Get behind it. Often it’s smth like bullies being bullied somewhere else or their situation at home isn’t ideal… whatever it is, find out why they’re bullying someone so bad that the other person had to go to a different school. I would also like to say that the child would have to seriously understand why it’s so wrong to bully. Maybe they have to stop hanging out with their friends group if they’re part of the reason why. Id also say genuinely apologize to the other student if they wanna go to prom, but then again the damage is done. The other student will always remember that for the rest of their lives and their self-confidence might’ve plummeted and it’s gonna be difficult to heal and grow from all of that, to gain your confidence back. The student that was bullied doesn’t have to accept the apology either. But so many adults say that their bullies act like nothing happened when they meet again at some point in the future, don’t know the damage they’ve done. And maybe, even if just a little, it would help the other student if you’re genuine with your apology. That’d have to be done in a way that’s genuine and not selfish though. Not for the bully to feel better. Ahhh this is hard ngl. As I said, NTA but there are better ways to do it imo
