I basically agree with everything Morgan said about long games being fun, and farewell being necessary. Boardwipes (especially ones that hit artefacts) help slow down people doing dumb things. However, I'm not a fan of Farewell's design. I will defend exile-wipes as necessary (and I'm one of the ones doing degenerate stuff out the yard). The issue with Farewell is that you get everything for free. It'd be a much better design if it was pick 2, or made you pay for extra modes like spree did. (Such as Austere command or Cleansing Nova).
