A lot of stress went away when I cancelled Twitter and stopped watching the news. I limit social media to positive things like your channel, I unfollow friends on FB that continually post topics I don't care for and I'm not afraid to say "NO" when I really don't want to do something.

At 72, I do feel the most sorry for my grown son and grandchildren. This is such a harsher time than we grew up in. I am pretty content , even though I live alone , and am a plane ride away from everyone. I do pray and feel grateful everyday that I am still in good health, in my paid for home. I know health issues as people age can be so stressful. So I am able to garden , do my crafts, make something good to eat, read, and just try and remain content for where I am at this point of my life. I have a few good friends. But I am feeling the need to volunteer and meet others. I do notice I spend a lot of days alone.. But even though I am alone, I am never lonely. Thank you Jesus!

Last night as I crawled into bed with my little 13 year old dog who's had health issues of late, instead of stressing about my flooded basement and worrying about how to tackle the upcoming day, I forced my mind to rest with my little dog beside me and savor our remaining time together. I hope you have family members who can help, or you're able to arrange some other resources for respite care. If you try to do it all yourself and put everything you have into caregiving, eventually you'll end up wearing yourself out, and you'll end up sick yourself. I know it's extremely difficult, but some time off for self care is really important. I wish you the best.

As A nurse, I have seen many ways caregivers take care of themselves. One is creating a quiet area in the backyard or house to go and be alone. A neighbor of mine had a wooded area behind her house. She created a small open area to place a small bench and chair. Everyday about 1pm while her husband, who had Alzheimer's, napped she would go and just sit in the seclusion alone. She continues to speak how that area continues to soothe her even though she's lost her husband.

HI from Annie thank you for your kind words of inspiration. Yes I agree it is a sad world out there and we have to focus on ourselves more and take better care of our mind body and spirit, if we don't no one else will. Reaching out to family is good if you have one that wants you and cares about you. But if your family ignores and pushes you out then what can you do nothing I have reached out so many times in past to be thrown out told to go away and the is sad coming from my only daughter she is 45yrs should know better. She won't let my grandkids see me or their father we are shut out. It is awful don't even have their contact details at all no address no phones etc blocked from facebooks etc. I have done nothing to deserve this is all came about when she remarried for second time, it was her buby who started it. I thought she loved me enough to say NO to her second huby and his control freak ways etc. We can't control much in our lives these days and it is scary and depressing. I have few friends they have changed only care about themselves and their families have no time to chat to me or met for a cuppa it is very disappointing when you trust others and they let you down. But as you say try to be in the present moment I try the best I can and just pray a lot for so many people and good things for this earth.

You have hit the nail on the head with this observation. I've been feeling this way..I'm 61 and starting to notice that I don't quite fit in this chaotic world the way I used to. Then I think to myself"did my Momma feel this way at my age?". Then I tell myself that it's the natural order of things.......except that there are changes in this world that are not normal. We're sensing an undercurrent of something sinister. Many of us feel it and it is indeed affecting our mental health.

Well, you're a breath of fresh air, Sandra! Wonderful message. I'll share one small suggestion, that's so easy to put into regular practice. When we "demonstrate curiosity" about others, we convey a message that the other person matters. Simply asking someone how they're doing (the cashier at the grocery store, the young employee checking me in at the gym, the person taking my coffee order), it gives them a small opportunity to share, and conveys caring and interest. It seems to make someone's day, even momentarily, brighter by simply and genuinely asking: how are you doing today? You have a new subscriber from western Canada. Warm regards.

I'm 68. Stress can shorten a person's life. I have learned about Stoicism. You are right about focusing only on those things we have control over, and not on the things we don't. I work full-time at Walmart. It would be so easy for me to get all twisted up over the things I have to tolerate there, but I choose not to. It really isn't the things that happen to us in life, but what we choose to tell ourselves about it that makes all the difference. Happiness comes from within, not from external sources.

With Jesus in my life, I can do anything. He entered my life in 1988, and I have been sober ever sense. My husband died in 2014 and I learn to just surround myself with likeminded people. . I am very active in my church.. I take a 3 mile walk weather permitting with my dog Otis that’s how I get my head clear. I try to watch limited news, but I am in the know. I am 72 years old and praise God that I am still very healthy, but I work at it every day with my walks with my eating with my upper body weights. I don’t sweat the little things anymore. I take things sometimes a minute at a time, and I lay it at God’s feet and leave it there. The only one that is in control is Jesus Christ.

Hello Sandra...thank you for sharing this message. By nature I'm a very positive person, but the past couple of years have been so draining on my spirit. I recognized this, so made an active plan to get off social media and stop watching the news. That helped Tremendously! Then I started learning new things (sewing, gardening, painting). I started hand writing letters to friends and all of that combined has been a real confort to me. I also actively withdrew my desire to impose my views on others. I let everyone be what they want to be. We're all on our own journey and that's ok. I wrote out a bunch of affirmations and prayers and I have them posted on a bulletin board that I read before getting out of bed.

Sandra, I used to start my morning with my coffee and the news. Recently, decided to have my morning coffee on my patio watching the birds and the beauty of each morning begin. Definitely a much healthier, better way to begin my day. I also walk most every morning, and decided to verbalize my daily gratitude journal entry, out loud, on my walk. That has become a very positive reminder of how blessed I am with my health and so much more. Thank you for the reminder that stressing over things we cannot control is an unfortunate, sad waste of our precious energy and time. Focusing inward, family, friends, and most of all ourselves, to take care of, nurture and enjoy is a more productive way to spend our days. Thank you for your inspiring talks. Be well💕🌻

Hi Sandra I feel exactly this way too. I’m 72 and am feeling the losses of people dear to me - beloved cousin who passed in March and a friend of over 50 years refused to accept my efforts to restore our relationship after a falling out- she was my confidant and we helped each other through many a crisis. Meanwhile my adult children make choices that worry me but like you said in another video, it’s a daily practice to let it go and let it be. I do exactly what you have prescribed: monthly facials are a special treat I give myself and help me look the best I can look for my age, I walk in the park, and I do lap swimming at local park pool. There’s something about swimming under the sunshine and enjoying the music and happy chatter of the people in the exercise class in the next lanes that make me feel part of life. But underneath is still the sadness that comes with attachment….what we love we will lose someday😢

As the secular, physical world peels away from you and your soul, remember there is much to be gained in the love of God and his kingdom. You can't live in His eternity until you shed everything of this world. That's what's going on. From earthly caterpillar to eternal butterfly. So take heart, the losses are part of the path to eternal gain.

I agree with you. The future always brings change. In this storm of life, finding peace and calmness is important. Human contact and sharing is important. As one gets older, one loses friends, family, and life's colours seem dimmer. We mustn't accept the dimness. Finding hobbies, hobbies you can share with others, finding new friends helps so much. For myself, I write stories and one of my hobbies is being a movie buff. I used to go to a cafe which showed movies for free in the evenings, the same customers often went and it became like a club and we would discuss the movies together. Unfortunately, it was in a different country which I had to leave not long ago, I really miss that. Now, back in my own country, I'd love to start my own cafe/cinema, but it seems difficult here. The problem with living abroad for so long and being forced to leave (due to the country's transformation and change in politics) one must leave behind all one's friends and family and return to a homeland that now feels foreign. No more family, no more friends, all unfortunately left behind. Having to adapt is important, very very difficult, but essential for the spirit to continue.

I relate to this topic and discussion. I’m 53 and the world has changed so much in many very concerning ways. I feel powerless in most ways, but I think it’s helpful to keep in mind, one must not give up. Staying true to ones beliefs and values is paramount. On a daily basis, it really is about self care. For me, it sounds like you, it’s about my routine of eating well, daily yoga/ pilates/ walking and movement of some kind. I recently moved to a calmer city and that helped me de stress from some of the environmental stressors. I limit news and instead watch things of interest on RU-vid. 1:42 pm Dear Sandra, thank you for being authentic and open. The world could sure use more lovely people like you. After losing all 3 of my siblings, having my father pass and just weeks later my 29 year old son pass unexpectedly and my job gone then….. on and on. It seemed there would be no let up. My grief in losing my son was a million times more intense than any loss I ever suffered. It has now been 8 years and I feel I have finally come through hell and am back but not the same. Yet, able to laugh and enjoy like again. I never though I could fall so deep being a life coach who had worked with lots of people to help them go through transitions and heal. What I learned about grief it is it’s own train and you cannot stop it. You just have to ride it out or get crushed in its tracks. It did not take 8 years to laugh and enjoy life but I learned that you never know when the grief train in going to take you for another ride. Although over time, there becomes more distance between the rides grief takes you on. Taking breaks and doing simple nourishing things or just normal things helped me. Unfortunately, I was pretty isolated and did not have supportive family to turn to. I hope you are surrounded by love and support, as the loss of a spouse according to the grief counseling I went to at hospice said the loss of a spouse usually has the most intense grief for the first two years and a child five yet, grief is something that never totally goes away as you know from other losses. Please give your self the grace and love that you give to all of us as you navigate your new normal. Much love and appreciation! ❤ Michele

Also making a conscious effort to do more self care and reaching out to others just like you suggested. I really appreciate you and your timely videos. Thank you ❤️

My life has a medical theme this year. So many friends and relatives suffering from heart problems, an aunt diagnosed with Lou Gehrig's disease, or just plain old age. My friend is depressed because he had open heart surgery after collapsing in the street where strangers saved his life. I told him "We're all just happy you're still alive." Sometimes it feels like we're in the middle of a whirlwind.

Dear Sandra, thank you for another amazing video ❤ when I feel stressed, I go to the forest, as often as I can. Sometimes I listen to a podcast in one ear and on the other ear I listen to the birds :) and sometimes I only listen to nature and talk to god within :) its my kind of self-love practice. I'm so grateful to live next to the woods. Thanks again and have a wonderful day, kind regards from Vienna, Austria :)

Last year I chose to remove a longtime friend of 40 years. It instantly felt like a boulder had been lifted from my shoulders and my mind was cleared from her drama and never ending problems.

@Fyrinspector1923 I did the same. All I ever heard about was how much money she had. It was tedious. The last communication was via email. She accused me of behaving badly by ignoring a mutual friend. (We were a bit of a trio). I didn't have a clue what she was talking about but chose not to argue. We were at the beginning of the pandemic which made it all the easier. No regrets.

You always inspire me. It's a beautiful day here today and I feel very positive. I got some chores done, but I will make sure I do things that will make me happy.. The world is sad, and when I was a child I cried all the time because I did not understand how everyone around me was happy and I could not feel the same way. Now I'm 72 years old and I refuse to let things get me down. Whatever time I have left I want to stay positive and happy.

Thank you again for your calming advice, you are truly a Blessing! A way I have found to destress in this chapter of my life is I've started attending, virtually, a writers class. I have always loved reading and writing. So far, I've written several short stories and am working on a children's book also a self help book. This is a wonderful community, hang in there everyone of us, all of this to shall pass. 😊

Dear Sandra, I love listening to you as a much younger person, love your advices and life experiences you share with all of us. I love reading the comments of so many beautiful ladies all over the world, and feel so emphatic. I agree you can’t control others, and living in the present moment and absorbing others happiness and reaching out to people’s heart as you can. I do that by teaching music and sharing my passion, and even if I am stressed every thing vanishes as I see students faces shining and loving me. I wish you and all the wonderful ladies good health, happiness and inner peace . ❤🙏

You are not alone lately I felt very stressed and heavy hearted although I stopped watching the news , so I decided to have a 4 day trip and go visit my friend in TX who I haven’t seen for almost 8 years to celebrate her 70th birthday ,unfortunately she was just divorced and felt lonely . Great video thank you ❤️

Sandra, I listen to you every Tuesday but the first time commenting. I really enjoyed this video because it flowed right in the theme of my year-mindfulness. After visiting my sister last year who has dementia, I decided I have to stop worrying and enjoy each day that I am blessed with. I realized that I have to take care of my Joy!! Thank you Sandra, my husband has also passed on.

Dear Sandra, thanks so much for bringing this out publicly! There are major changes happening all over the planet, and it IS affecting everyone and everything. I personally approach this from a Spiritual perspective, and since you mentioned “ mindfulness “, I’m guessing that you may well do the same. I practice meditation twice daily, give Gratitude every day, and recently discovered bush bathing/ getting out into nature daily also. I cannot begin to express how VERY healing and helpful gratitude and bush bathing has been for me!!! I am constantly feeling at ease, peace filled and joyful as a result of all the above. I’m not religious, but I do believe in a Higher Power. Another thing I have found is a much closer connection to my God. In fact I’m finding that I connect even more so in nature/ bush bathing! I’m finding I don’t get drawn into the dramas of the world, because it’s much healthier and far more fruitful not to. I haven’t had to learn this last skill, it’s simply been another off shot of my practices. Thanks again for bringing this out into the open “more”! If anything I have shared with you this evening is in any way helpful to you, please feel free to share it for others. Many thanks again, Namaste🙏. I pray your kindnesses come back to you tenfold Sandra ! 😇🌹💚💕💙💜❤️🌈

The sincerity and genuineness you share is heart warming to say the least. Your video popped up on my feed when I’ve most needed it I’ve been the one to cheer everyone on most of my life as of late, hardly recognize myself feeling tremendous stress and agitation that seems relentless. The (simple) things in life have always touched me the most; animals, nature, children’s laughter. Thank you for taking the time to make this video. Sharing Blessings to all who come to this channel ❤
