People around me and especially my family keeps saying that I'm too old to start again (I'm 26 years old),and always keeps telling me that I need to get married and have kids since people at my age already have their own families but I really wanna be a veteran This makes me sad and depressed all the time when I hear my parents saying all this every day . 😢

Do it! You'll be 35 wishing you had started when you were in your 20s. I'm nearing that age and wishing I had started when I was younger. But I'm going to try get the math going, then see if I can get beyond that. 🙂

Go for it! I’m 27 with 2 kids and decided no more babies I decided I wanted to focus on my dreams and finish school to be a vet 😂 I was already in school working towards it then got married and got pregnant right away and had to put it on the back burner. It’s just life 🤷🏻‍♀️ It doesn’t matter what age you are, it’s just a number. Go for your dreams! :)

Hello Dr. Shanelle, my name is Kayla. I thought this video was inspirational. I used to confused whether I should be veterinarian or be a nurse, but I realized this the career for me because I notice I keep going back to it. My therapist told me , I couldn't do it and I needed a plan B. Veterinary medicine always been a dream for me. I am always eager to find out how to diagnosis and treat animals. Thank you for the encouraging words.💜

I'm 28 years old and have been a LVN/LPN for 6 years and have been trying to pursue my RN for 5 years in a field that I honestly don't even like and not to mention the difficulties of getting into an RN program and the sad reality of the lack of respect for the profession. When people ask me what I wanted to be when I was a kid I say with a smile "a vet!!" I love animals! I'm seriously wanting to persue the career now. I'm so over nursing.

If you have a passion for the profession don't let a few people turn you away from your calling. There will always be those who disagree or put down whatever you do. It happens to me all the time. I try to focus on the people who are encouraging and uplifting, the people whose lives you touch every day. It only takes one person to be an example, to promote change and inspire others. If you are seriously considering the veterinary profession I encourage you to shadow a few veterinarians in your area to see how you like it.

Darling, thank you for this! I'm so trapped with the relativity of time, how it's passing by and how i often feel stuck. I was almost in my second year of college when I decided that I was going to pursue veterinary medicine. The process of reclassifying and meeting with the requirements for the change in majors has taken a long time. It's a difficult and frustrating process and sometimes I feel that the clock is ticking, and I put in perspective the idea of having a family, children and travelling and it feels like it may take too long for me to achieve anything. Your message, and the videos I'm finding on your channel are putting everything into perspective and helping me reorganize myself, and renewing my energies to follow my dreams.Time is relative, and I will have the time to achieve all of my goals. Hugs from your new suscriber.

I just turned 32. I started college later in life (28) and I am about to complete my bachelor's in social work. I am a single mother of a 6-year-old and I just applied to pre-vet because my dream and my passion have always been to work with animals. I am mad at myself for not following my dream from the beginning but I feel as if I would seriously regret it if I don't try. I have some of the prerequisites for Vet school from my current undergrad (biology, social sciences, statistics) but I am missing quite a few which is why I am applying to pre-vet. I feel slightly defeated though because I am essentially going for a second bachelor's degree!!! Your video was very inspiring because I do feel a little old considering my circumstances but I don't want to be unhappy for the rest of my life pursuing a career that would feel like work. "Do what you love but call it work" simplified everything for me, and is why I have decided to make the switch.

Recently stumbled upon your videos and they are amazing. I'm an undergrad senior year student pursuing a bachelors in animal science prevet. I'm about to graduate but dont have much clinical experience as in shadowing. And thought I should take a year for that but was feeling discouraged because of the time it takes but you definitely encouraged and inspired me to keep going❤❤❤

I’m about to be 27 next month & I have always had a passion for animals & our environment. When I was little I wanted to be a vet but I used to cry when I saw dead animals hit by cars or what have you. I still foster & volunteer for the ASPCA but I think I would love to just be a vet. Either wildlife, marine or emergency!

I am NEVER to old to become what I’ve ALWAYS dreamt of becoming!!!! .....and even though this video was posted 2 years ago, its message is NOT to old to still have the same impact! Divine Spirit lead me to this video. I’ve been called to be a Vet at the age of 29. Thinking of the time it would take to complete school does make you feel a bit discouraged at my age, especially because we live in a popcorn age where everyone expects things to happen fast! However watching this video reassured me what my grandma use to say all the time, “Honey, don’t nothing get old but clothes, and when they get old we change them out”. I never quite understood what she meant all those year but some how it make a ton of sense now. Thank you queen for this beautiful, inspiring video, I know I don’t know you personally but I love you ❤️🙏🏾✨

Hi Dr. Shanelle! I am a college junior who just switched from pre-med to pre-vet. I don't have a strong gpa at 2.7 and don't have much experience with animals in clinics. However, growing up my family and I have always had a pet ranging from bird, bunnies, cats, and dogs. I have fostered about 3-4 litters of kittens in the past but don't have that experience with vet clinic and vets. I def want to want raise my gpa and get more experience. Do you think being a vet is an attainable goal?

@DrJasmineShanelle
@DrJasmineShanelle 6 лет назад
Hi Jeny. Is it an attainable goal?! YES YES YES. Do not let anything (grades, people, experience, etc.) stop you from your dream. There are people with higher and lower gpa's who got in. I definitely encourage you to shadow a veterinarian (that can be at a general practice clinic, animal shelter, ambulatory, or exotic practice). You can't change the past so moving forward focus you energy on the classes you have to do the best youcan. When you write you letter, be honest and share the challenges you faced and what you did to overcome them. When reviewers are looking at vet applications, they consider grades but they also look at the entire person (personality, communication, emotional intelligence, hobby and passion). I say all this to say. Don't give up.

Hi Kejera. Thank you for messaging me. To answer your question, it depends. Many students entering vet school have a bachelors or advanced degree but you can be accepted as long as you have completed the required coursework for the veterinary school you are interested in attending.
