Didn’t appreciate back in the day how brilliant Emily Blunt was. I thought this character was really a pain in the arse not having seen Emily ever before.. now I see how well she accomplished exactly that result. And her timing and faces just awesome
They asked Gisele if she wanted to be a model in the movie. She agreed to do the movie if she was not cast as a model. She said she does modeling everyday but not acting.
Reality is many women just as beautiful as her working in fashion industry. They were not discovered. I live in So. Cal. Pretty women drop out of trees. You better work on your best every day
I love this scene because of Gisele's character, Serena. Her "you look good" compliment followed by refusing to be pulled into Emily's intimidation and replying with "What? She does." shows the authenticity of her character and her statement. Quite a feat for such a small role played by a non-actor. I always enjoy watching this interaction.
It took them a lot of takes to shoot that scene bc Emily couldn't keep a straight face so they just decided to put that one instead even tho she broke character at the end (the laugh)
One of the reasons I like this movie is that it not only exposed the hollowness of the fashion world but also gave some character development to Anne's character who was hard-core "I'm not like other girls". Honestly, I thought her boyfriend also required some of it but meh...
Her bf needed to GO. Major loser with how much he tried to stifle her ambitions with guilt. Sooo many toxic interactions between those two characters that are glaringly obvious now.
I don't understand why people like classist characters and hate her bf. And where did Anne even get money to buy those clothes or does the company hands out high end clothes for free to its staffs. Her clothes are over the top. Anne didn't like the job and yet she wasn't maintaining healthy personal lifestyle. I have so much to say,
@@autumn-ju8yq yes, not liking your job and still giving it 110% is definitely a lost art. I thought the movie made it pretty clear that she was borrowing items from the sample closet until she was able to buy things herself. Putting your professional life before your personal life is a boss move, especially in your 20’s. It’s the sign of someone who wants to accomplish more than being their partner’s arm decor.
@@missyyy-especially a high powered job like that. It's fine if you don't want to give 110% at your local Wendy's or something, though it's still good to have a strong work ethic, but totally understandable to give 110% working for Miranda priestly as her assistant even if you don't enjoy it. That's a pretty high level job for someone in their 20's, give it your all and you'll accomplish so much as you get older. But nowadays people give little effort for jobs they don't like
@@missyyy- I don't think he was unreasonable actually. She completely changed what she was about as a person, buying into the bs she didn't like about the company originally. I think he missed his original gf with her original personality and values, and her work was affecting their relationship. If a guy I was dating switched up like this, even though it's great for their career, I'd feel the same way regarding the relationship. It's not the same person you were dating, they've changed, and so you're no longer compatible. The least she could have done is confront it head on and admit that she wasn't able to spend the time with him that he wanted and she doesn't think she can meet that need without sacrificing this opportunity, which she thinks is valuable and doesn't want to pass up since it will open so many doors for her career. Sometimes people grow in different directions and being emotionally healthy and mature is trying to understand the other perspective, and recognising when you are unable to meet someone's needs and when they would be better off with someone better suited to what they are looking for
Emily Blunt is such a great actor! In a scene where someone else is supposed to be the show stealer you have to stop and marvel at the her micro expressions and top notch body language, intonation... just everything!
Emily Blunt is an amazing actress. I also was not familiar with her work until this film and now knowing how truly sweet and down to earth she is, see her talent seamlessly.
The genius here is that the camera kept moving, spinning around Emily Blunt to show that the world had shifted. There are so many masterful details in The Devil Wears Prada.
I love how Gisele at least gives her credit and says she looks good. Belittling someone is cheap and easy but praising them when they try is much better character.
this scene changed my life and keeps changing my life everytime i watch it. whilst there is absolutely valid criticism about the commodification of fashion and the industry's terrible social and environmental impact, there is something so powerful about this story beat. You suck at something? You wanna be better at it? Make that your priority and watch MAGIC happen in front of your eyes.
Anne Hathaway never gets enough credit or appreciation. she played the best Catwoman i've yet seen in a movie, the Princess Diaries where she really grew matured and developed into a great character who was strong and her own person still despite eventually fitting in and being more like her Grandma and the royals and showing she belong there but yet she was still the girl from the begining of the movie/franchise too and now this clip where she just walks in and owns the room and shut up the bullies/people making fun of her.
If you think of it, in the entire film, his is the ONLY scene where Andy's transformation is mentioned. And in two words : " she looks good...she does "
I went through a similar transformation but in different circumstances. There was a guy who I really fancied but he never even bothered to look in my direction. For a number of different reasons I then decided to reinvent myself anyway. I worked on my confidence issues and my weight loss transformation. It took me months to reinvent myself. When people later saw me, I was unrecognisable. How I carried myself became different too. I recently saw the same guy who kept staring at me on the train. But now, I don't even care about him anymore as I'm just enjoying my life a lot more.
I just love that scene, love Emily, Anne and Gisele and loved how all three of them are put in this scene together each having her own style and playing their roles well. They looked so organic fitting perfectly.
I appreciate that after the big makeover transformation they don't have a bunch of men gawking at her but have other women in awe of her beauty because ultimately it's more important to the character that other women respect her fashion rather than men liking how she looks
What I love about this is that even though the women here seemed to looked down on Andrea at first, but when she was improving, everyone appreciate her. Even Emily. She didn't try to snubbed her.
Emily Blunt can do anything. Her grasp of the comic timing required here is every bit as good as Meryl Streep's and Anne Hathaway's. And later on she showed another side of her extraordinary ability when she did A QUIET PLACE and A QUIET PLACE II.
I will always admire how the character of emily blunt was always supportive towards that of anne hathaway. She never misled her so she could keep her spotlight
@@RuminatingRaptor They are the leather that you see peaking out just under the jacket. They were like crotch high. Those are not leather trousers. lol You can google them.
The fact that Anne Hathaway looks better than a supermodel in this scene is pure fashion genius and proves Anne is not only a GREAT actress but could have been a supermodel.
