@daisy hi there :) I’m not sure what happened here in this thread but to answer your question-so far this is the BEST GF I’ve found at an “affordable” price. Good news? This same brand has another version that is just less GF (but still excellent) and it’s around $30. I’ll come back with a link. Compare the two-there are differences-but it’s an excellent alternative! 💜

Make sure if you start with a dermaroller that you get one that has real individual needles. Gin Amber Beauty makes awesome rollers and products, and Koi on Amazon seems to have the real deal.

I’ve been staring at my timeless derma roller forever, but I’ve been scared to death to use it! 😅 Those case studies are impressive, but I’m nervous about the possibility of making my melasma worse. If it's just cosmetic needling you'll probably be okay. But check out Davin Lim's YT channel, he is a worldwide expert on treating pigment and melasma. He does feel at certain depths with needling you do risk pushing pigment down further and making it harder to treat. Not everyone agrees with this. I believe melasma has more of a hormonal origin, but my local dermatologist has said even though hyperpigmentation comes from the sun the treatments for pigment and melasma are often the same.

Interestingly microneedling can either REALLY help melasma via better cellular cross talk (keratinocytes-melanocytes) OR..... Make it worse bc of inflammation and heat (as in a hot flash type sitch that flares melasma). So your fear is real. It’s a total crap shoot 🤨

I think there are two reasons why dermarollers are less popular now. I do believe that yes, the PENS helped that along. But here is my personal reason #2 for why I am switching to a Pen. Last time I used the dermaroller, I messed up and got a bit too aggressive with it, on the left side of my face where the sag is severe. When I realized the damage done, it was before doing the right side. It was 100% my fault...slightly low light conditions too...not the roller's...but I quit microneedling 3 yrs ago after that mistake of mine. I still have faded visible pink scars on the left. I decided that I needed to resume microneedling, desperately...but using a less RIPPING/TEARING alternative. I trust the device, more than I trust myself🤔🤔🤔

You could do cosmetic needling 1 night a week starting 7-10 days after your medical needling. Then once a week thereafter until you medical needle again. If you want to LED on the day you cosmetically needle I would do it after you’ve cleansed your skin but before the essence etc (on clean skin) then proceed with cosmetic needling session. Skip microcurrent that day. You could fit nano in another night exactly the same way although you could do this on one of your existing days: Led, microcurrent, cleanse skin then nano. I’m working on the blog and calendar to lay out several protocols (like this one) to help piece together different combinations 💜

Dang..I guess now I gotta throw needling in the mix! 😆 Should I put my 1x week chemical exfoliants (Dennis Gross Max peel or Drunk Elephant Baby Facial) away if I start doing this 1x week? This feels more like infusion rather than exfoliation, is that correct?

I usually use the Drunk Elephant facial, 2 days before. I'm no expert, but after researching a bit I've heard that exfoliating the skin prior, helps the needle penetrate better. I was thinking of starting chemical peels, I'm thinking of alternating one week with the chemical peel and cosmetic needling.

I did cosmetic needling yesterday with .3 dermaroller and after immediately applied growth factor serum, copper peptide, and peptide rich night cream. My skin is glowing today! I am interested to see your skin care regime for a week. You have so many wonderful tools, products, tips, tricks. How in the world do you balance them all? I want to put together a routine for myself but I have no clue where or how to start. I would love to hear the reasoning for your process and order of your use of products. We have so many options now and it’s too much to process sometimes. Seeing it in action by someone like your that KNOWS what your doing and understands the science of it would be amazing. What’s the difference between cosmetic needling and nano needling? I’m a bit confused.

Cosmetic needling uses actual needles. Nano “needling” doesn’t use needles at all. It uses a small disc that enables product to penetrate in to the very very superficial part of your skin. Cosmetic needling actually punctures the skin and helps product penetrate into the skin.

Finally, I would like to get my daughter started on Vitamin C, but she has very sensitive skin with acne scars. What is a gentle Vitamin C for this? THank you for everything that you do!

Hi Penny, I saw your video where you mixed egf (le mieux) into a spray for micro needling. Could you mix egf and copper peptides into a spray to flood the skin whilst micro needling???

Hi Penny! I need your expertise here... I just did the cosmetic needling and I actually had some minor pinpoint bleeding on the side of the bridge of my nose and almost on my upper lip. I also felt a bit sensitive on some areas... Now, I'm used to doing the medical needling without anesthetic but I just was expecting to not feel much with cosmetic needling.. Despite all that, I still went ahead and finished and applied the copper peptides, the retinaldehyde and a moisturizer. The moisturizer at the end kind of stung a bit. I used the La Roche Posay Toleriane Double repair moisturizer. I had my M8 pen set to speed 5 with needle depth .25. Do you see anything wrong in the way my skin responded? 🥺

I got my Dr pen a year ago or more and I’ve been scared to use it. Used to get professional intense needling + TCA peels monthly. I’m going to start with cosmetic needling at least once a week and go over it with a glycolic acid peel. I know how my skin reacts to needling and the glycolic peel and my goal is for the needling to help the glycolic acid penetrate deeper for collagen and elastin stimulation 🙏🏻😁

I started microneedling in January. I’m wondering if 6 months of cosmetic and medical microneedling is ok in the summer or is better to take a break the rest of the year? Or just take a break from the medical microneedling?

Does this routine apply to the micro stamps as well? I would like to start with a stamp for practicing before I invest in a pen. I just don’t want to go all in and then not be able to tolerate it.

Thankyou so much for sharing the wealth of information as I've just started microneedling myself! So this was so very helpful! 🙌 I have hypermigmentation on my chest (I'm assuming, they're red dots...broken capillaries perhaps?) Do you know what causes that and is it ok to microneedle over this to improve the condition? 🙏 Also, I'm 41. Is there anything to stop the skin from sagging due to aging or prevention of sagging skin. That's my biggest fear as I age as sagging skin tends to give away your age and make you appear older imho 😔 Man, I wish I had the $$ to afford all the helpful tools listed in your description box. P.S. I need to come back and take notes 😉😘

I absolutely love your device reviews and protocols. I've not been absolutely sure how/how often to use the Dr Pen for cosmetic needling, and so avoided it. But now I'm definitely going to give it a try. A request: discuss methods to get rid of whiteheads, because the mask-wearing keeps producing new ones.

Yes you definitely can still medical needle. So I stretch my MMN out to 6weeks or so. That way I can get a few cosmetic needling sessions in in-between. So MMN, wait 7-10 days then cosmetic needle weekly until you MMN again 😃

No numbing necessary:) the first time i cosmetically needles my skin just felt a little tight but not uncomfortable or painful. Your going to want to go with the 12, 16, or even 36 needle if using a pen, with 36 being a great choice!

Hi Penny! I want to know if I still can use the Nira laser around my eyes with the once a week cosmetic microneedling using 0.25 depth. I know you have said not to use Nira and microneedeling together, does it apply to comestic too? It will be nice to do the cosmetic microneedeking around the eyes and also keep doing the Nira laser.

So I have held off on face micro needling due to mild rosacea. I was afraid it would be aggravated. Do you have thoughts on this?

I'm in the same boat and started doing this because of my mild-rosacea; The long term effects are supposed to be strengthened skin and veins so that it takes less to make you red and is harder to break a capillary. The biggest challenge so far for me has been keeping my skin hydrated in my dry environment (hyaluronic acid makes me so red and dry) so I am hoping to find an alternate to the HA. I also have to be vigilant to constantly moisturize to avoid exasperating redness and cannot follow the more extreme elements in her regimen (eg the immediate retinal). Note to anyone reading that moderate rosacea should NOT be micro-needled. This means swelling, burning, papules or pustules.
