Bad news.
The heartbreaking news of third-generation American Flat Track pro racer Ryan Varnes’ death has been shared. He passed away at Weedsport Raceway on Saturday, July 2, 2022.
24-year-old Ryan, from Pennsylvania, was involved in an on-track accident in the Production Twins Main Event at Weedsport Speedway. The racer was treated on the scene and later was transported to Upstate University Hospital, in Syracuse where he was later pronounced dead.
Gene Crouch, COO of AMA Pro Racing, said: “The Varnes family has been a staple in the flat track community for decades, and they need our prayers during this difficult time”.
“Ryan was the class of the field, both on and off track. His bright, perpetual optimism and loyal friendship will be dearly missed. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends,” he added.
Ryan, who followed in the footsteps of his father, Kevin Varnes, and grandfather, started racing at five, according to American Flat Track. Ryan began pro-racing at the age of 16.
From 2019 to 2020, He scored four wins with AFT Production Twins. American Flat Track reported Varnes made the selfless decision to register as an organ donor, and the young racer will continue to extend his spirit to people in need.
