I was between T1 & 2, sitting in the shade in those trees, looking through the chain link fence right on top of the hay bales... pounding cold Buds... gettin' pelted with rocks from the roost off the pack! Damn, Rick Graham RIP. Jim Filice qualified as a wildcard in '88 on a 250 GP bike at Laguna and spanked all those Yurripan boyz. haha Bubba was riding the '84 HRC VF750F in AMA Formula 1, and won the Mid Ohio round in the rain. All these cats were so bleedin' fast! I still have a bunch of San Jose Mile T-shirts, and wear them too. It's a trip when some old guys see it and start remembering SJ and Sacramento!!! The good old days, right?
Wow, that is without question the best dirt track race I've ever seen! Thank God we have RU-vid to catch up on all this great racing! Ricky Graham and Randy Renfro gone too soon. Rip
This was my favorite track back in the 80's. Some of the best dirt track racing of all time was run there. Too bad they don't run at that track anymore.
That had to be one of my most favorite memories .. Eric Rausch finished 2nd. In that heat .. I had to fly back east ,get a frame ,tank ,forks front wheel ..ECT ..He had a bad crash ,at Ascot ,the weekend before .... lot of work ... Thanks to Bob Day , and the Chandler family ... Great racing memories !!!
I was at this race. My first SJ mile was the last year with no mufflers of any kind, 1975, I think. The next year they had the mufflers we see here. And I went to the last SJ mile, in 1988
Thanks for the note that the last SJ mile was in 1988. That was the only time I went. What I liked most was the incredible collection of bikes in the parking lot outside.
+jaymogamy I can remember my rider racing against these guys and I was the 14 yr old tuner in the pits trying to psyche my rider into beating them. Intimidating, competitive and awesome! Moorhead was great no doubt.
Does anyone know where to get more information on the SJ Mile? I'm from the east coast, love and film flat track and don't know enough... why the hell is it not there - there is NOTHING in San Jose... it needs fun, attractions, etc...
Remember when Honda kicked the Harley-Davidson's asses AMA made Honda air restricted by 2 mm on the carbs. Harley-Davidson pays off another rule change
