Amanda Seales joins Shannon Sharpe at Club Shay Shay for a conversation full of raw honesty about her life, career, and personal journey. Opening up about her Autism Spectrum Disorder diagnosis, Amanda discusses the challenges she's faced due to misconceptions about her personality, emphasizing her literalness and the difficulties it can create in social interactions. Reflecting on her upbringing, Amanda credits her supportive mother for accepting her and providing a strong foundation, despite societal norms. Then, Amanda shares her childhood memories of working for Disney and Nickelodeon, explaining how her experiences were unlike those depicted on the documentary All Quiet on Set, despite facing racism from other children. Amanda opens up about the complexities of navigating academia, like how she almost faced expulsion based on the accusations of another student which forced her to create her own major. Amanda comments on the growing number of hip-hop beefs, how they are good for the genre if they force performers to elevate their music, and says Nas won his beef vs Jay-Z. Amanda remarks on why her time with Floetry wasn’t always the smoothest which is punctuated by her being aired out on the Wendy Williams Show. Amanda recounts how she got her start in radio as a result of her poetry, having her first interview while working for Sirius be of OutKast, and how industry politics involving Jay-Z and Pusha T ultimately got her fired from Sirius. Continuing on the subject of industry politics, Amanda shares the time she was kicked out of the Black Emmy’s party because Issa Rae’s publicist wanted her gone, which led to a scuffle and confusion. Amanda goes further into the tumultuous relationship she’s had with Issa Rae’s publicist over the years and how it’s spilled over into her work on Insecure, which created a work environment that ultimately has led Amanda to disagree with Lil Rel’s opinion that Issa creates environments that empower women. Amanda also touches on other sets and productions like Bring the Funny, The Real, hosting the BET Awards during COVID, and working with Kevin Hart. Amanda also discusses Queen Latifah coming to her defense, Candace Owens, Emmanuel Acho’s comments about Angel Reese, and how her expectations for dating differ drastically from Shannon’s. This second portion of the interview is a testament to Amanda's unwavering courage and resilience, as well as her commitment to speaking truth to power in pursuit of justice and authenticity.

She has zero accountability, she claims 7 people who didn’t know her ripped her name off a door? That sounds honest and forthright to you? She listed almost 40 people who don’t like her and not once did she say what she did wrong that made all these people not like her, everyone doesn’t like her and it’s never her fault, that’s the premise of this entire interview. You lack discernment and, it’s concerning. She lied that she was diagnosed with autism and admitted it, that’s your version of honesty I guess.

There’s a way to present correction and in front of an entire class is not it. The way she speaks I’m confident it came out as disrespectful this it fell on deaf ears. She was operating as a child so she didn’t have the knowledge. Obviously, the first response is going to be to check a child with their disrespect. Let my grandchild talk crazy to me, I don’t care what she’s saying, she will get checked! After I correct her then I’m going to ask repeat what she needs to say but say it with respect. If you don’t correct them, that same child is going to talk to you and you’re going to be beside yourself like wth.

What people don’t understand about autism is we love context and we need context so we provide as much as possible! It’s not being a know it all it’s really just giving what we consider the gift of knowledge and information. A lot of times we also don’t realize that the average person doesn’t appreciate information in same way we do because we find they are typically attempting to read subtext rather than the actual information being shared.

I don't understand why some of you people choose to call her a narcissistic here. She was literally asked to be in an interview to talk about HER experiences. Makes me think a lot of you have never dealt with a TRUE narcissist in real life and you not only do not understand the definition, but you are not familiar with how real narcissism (problematic and toxic) presents itself. Being someone who is confident and proud of their abilities and talents and doesn't shy away from celebrating it in the presence of others does not automatically make someone a narcissist. Amanda is keenly aware that she is not perfect and she does not present herself to be someone who is. Amanda does know that she is still fly and magical though, no matter how many small minded insecure self hating people try to tear her down to make themselves feel better. As a white male who grew up with a culturally diverse extended family . 100% Racism in all forms is LEARNED as is colourism within each race. I had friends of all colours and ethnicities and only understood is all to be different not “different” I do believe Children brought up in racist environment don’t understand the effect or impact of their behaviour being racist because it’s simply what they’re brought up with no less excusable but up to an age ( because if your not being educated at home it your being taught at school ) it’s about the fact that your hurting someone period regardless of context and correcting that behaviour immediately. You blame the upbringing not necessarily the product. Unfortunately it’s all learned behaviour … children are not born thinking their differences can be perceived as negative be it race lifestyle gender sexuality religion….. they are taught to be cogniscent of these perceptions based on things passed on . The hard part on both sides is just letting go. On one side it’s realizing your ancestors passed issues have nothing to to do with your current existence understand we are just people and differences are surface level in every way . On the receiving side it’s hard to let go of all the of the atrocities youre ancestors experienced as the hands of people with these issues , because while you’re world is different they went through it get you here and letting go may feel like you’d be denying their struggle so you end up carrying it forward in a way as well .

@@matthewlima7121 Racism is a form of otherism and humans are predisposed to some form of the latter. Studies have shown 1) We prefer people who look like us (or like someone in our family), 2) We prefer people we see as similar to ourselves, etc. So while a specific strain may be “learned”, we are easy to learn and apply it and in the case of “racism” of whites against non-whites, and for the former it has been immensely enriching and empowering as morally degrading as it may be, therefore it survives and perpetuates.

She navigated multiple triggers with grace...because there were several times within the first 20 minutes where she could've (and should've) eaten him alive....not because she wanted to...but he was saying some really dumb things that were obvious and needed to be corrected. But I think she is starting to become exhausted with having to navigate other peoples improper thinking. Shes starting to choose her battles...almost seems like she is protecting her peace.

@rla8713 Many people with autism have this experience where they are bullied, exploited, and ostracized! Even if people didn't like her, why are they comfortable at openly humiliating her, saying cruel things to and about her! That type of behavior is inappropriate regardless if they like a person or not! Even if I don't particularly care for someone, I don't need to gossip, slander, judge, or humiliate another human being because that isn't a reflection of that person, it's a reflection of me. Now, if someone does something to you, then you directly go to that person and address it. My heart goes out to autistic individuals because they aren't harming anyone. They just operate, process, and show up differently than mainstream society! But they deserve to be seen, heard, and respected as well!

Amanda is very intelligent, but she also lacks self-awareness concerning how she comes off. She speaks and behaves as a narcissist does, but can't understand why she's unlikeable. She seems to think her perspective is the only or right perspective and can't handle it when she's being challenged, even in an interview where it is their job to probe. Before this interview, I thought she was misunderstood. Now, I see how she has the reputation of being difficult to work with.

Funny to see all the folks *outraged* at Shay for simply asking "But were you clinically diagnosed?" as if that was some form of disrespect. It's a legitimate and relevant question as a ton of people self-diagnose themselves. Even funnier in hindsight that Amanda post-interview stated herself "NO, I'VE NOT BEEN CLINICALLY DIAGNOSED BECAUSE I'M NOT PAYING $10,000". A lot of folks in the comments with egg on their face right now.

👍👍😂😂There's A LOT of emotions in this Comment section. A lot of people talking like they act the way she acts. Must be a lot of Unemployed, Single people in the Comment section. 🤣🤣Yeah right. They know they can't act like her. 😂EVERYBODY has a MEDICAL ISSUE now. Like EVERYONE has an issue that stops them from functioning like a NORMAL person. 🙄 I was surprised at the amount of Males that were in their feelings like Females and not thinking logically. Its crazy how someone FAMOUS can say 2+2 =5 and their fans will find a way to defend it or look past it. This Comment section attacking Unc shows how bad A LOT of people LACK comprehension skills. The Women who weren't in their feelings and spoke on how things work in "The Real World" made me proud though. 👍👍"There's STILL hope."🤣 "I'm speaking MY truth on why I'm always a victim and everyone has a problem with me". Maaan... 🙄

Watching her lead him through the logic of his own words that he didn’t realize was so beautiful. The thing I’ve learned is that most people just run their mouths with no consistency to what they are saying and they don’t even realize the implication of their words. Most people communicate very poorly. The number of times I’ve had someone argue with me over what they assumed I meant instead of accepting the words I said is equal to the number of people I’ve had to walk through their own comments to show them they didn’t say what they meant. It’s so exhausting. But sure she’s the one that’s being difficult for wanting logical consistency and understanding.

In my opinion, Amanda is so self-aware and direct and a segment of the people who strongly don't like her or find her annoying are arguably uncomfortable because they don't have or have not personally reached her level of awareness, confidence, & unapologetic resolve to fight injustice. The mindset is "I can't silence my voice and saying the hard truths because of anyone else's discomfort" and I 100% understand it & support it. I am also appreciate Amanda's candidness and the visibility/representation of someone living on the spectrum.

I deal with the same things, but somehow I still think her becoming famous and "successful" allowed a certain amount of arrogance that when added with her diagnosis could make her unbearable for a lot of people. No. She butts heads with people because she has difficulty with the concept of “there’s a time and a place”. As soon as she detects something is off, she speaks on it. It’s admirable but it’s a hard way to live. Part of that is autism spectrum, but part of it is also defensiveness. She says it herself.
