Loved it! I am a mining engineer from UZ as well (26 years ago!!), now working in Australia and am so happy to see the young mining engineers coming through the system are still as sharp as we were!

My grandfather took the same degree in Edinburgh having been a coal miner in the 1920s..he became the director of Workington Steel Works.. part of Sheffield Steel.. during the war ..he combined his love of mining like Amanda..with a fear and reverence for our Lord.. Such lives have the makings of curatorship . Zimbabwe need s this ladies story . Zimbabwe needs custodians of her wealth... people who can accept responsibility with humility. Perhaps Amanda is one. With thanks and sincere respect for a story full of emotion for me.

As a Mining student on industrial attachment this is very inspiring...I started about about a month ago and the work has been very tough, you have to learn lots of stuff in a very short period of time, learning the proper way to do tasks and also the shortcuts they use at the mine, balancing time between yourself and work.,working up at 4:30 am and getting home around 6 pm.The first few weeks are very tough coz i had lots of confusion and i discovered that most of the things we learnt at school are not actually whta you experience hands on ,but the more i face challenges the tougher i become and the more i want to learn.....Mining choses you as she said you dont chose it

Love how Amanda sees God in it all and credits His providence to her journey. Also love how she embraces who she is and where she came from. It’s quite true that exposure plays a key role in many cases in life. As someone has said “talent is evenly distributed but opportunities are not”

Amanda this is amazing. U really need to have your own mine .You need 1.Think about it .Dont rush it .Get the experience there. We can come and consult you coz right now its difficult to get advice on mining issues .We need such young people like u whom we can relate to at our level.. You seem to be an approachable person. Register yo own mining comp with ZIDA.U really can do amazing greater things .Our Zim gvt is empowering and helping women in mining too.Dont rush it but its the way to go Amanda.Young miners need your help.

I was born by a woman. My first boss was my mother, a woman. I am the only boy in our family. My second boss was a woman after college. I have never seen competence in the eyes of gender. I missed out on the program I really wanted to do because I was a man due to Affirmative Action. Men and women have different areas of strength. The differences are positive and negative. I have a wife, four daughters and a house assistant. I am still the only male in the house. I do not teach my daughters to confuse competence with gender, neither should they expect sympathy from this world because they are female. In the work place, competence is KEY! When they see what you can do they will respect you. When you miss the mark, they will tell you in their own language.
