I had an unusual name and mostly it was miss pronounced or shortened. I did not correct people. Later in my job world I finally was able to be called correctly by my given name. It took that long. My father named me. So it was important to me. Here I have a user name I chose. But, my father's name for me is my name. It is who I am.

Well my name means who-is-like-god which is super important in my culture and religion but I don't make a fuss about pronouncing Michael like I was Moses writing the Torah.
I'm South African and this is something that means very much to us and seeing it westernized, especially when apartheid was an atrocity perpetrated by westerners, not even 3 decades ago, is not something that will sit well with South Africans
