You should hear Mr Roberts sing Suite Madame Blue by STYX. I got to one night at a bar named Sweetwater in Westminster, CO. I also got to hear Ray Benson sing Rainy Night in Georgia. It was a Karaoke night. It was my show. Mr Benson introduced himself to me as Ron. Mr Roberts on the other hand told the truth, he was Jason. What a treat!!! Something different than what they are known for. I knew it wasn't their first Rodeo. They came in incognito and it took a bit for me to figure out who they were. As they finished their single beer and were leaving it finally dawned on me who they were. I kept their identities to myself.
God, so many memories, first time i saw you was at the Red Dog Saloon (or the joint next door) on NorthWest Hwy, Dallas around 1973 or so. Keep it goin Ray, your are part of The TEXAS soul.
"Asleep", is still one country music great bands. Ray Benson & company. There is no compromise with traditional country. Congrats guys you do us right. mos60
Terry Stafford and Paul Fraser wrote this song and Terry sang it in 1973... George, Chris, Kenny, et.al., have all put out their cover versions over the years, and yet, Jason Roberts' version is the first time I have questioned my choice in the 1982 KHEY El Paso radio challenge when Terry's version lost to the country song of the day. Don't ask me what that song was because I don't remember. It was utterly forgettable. Yes, this was the same Terry Stafford who performed the hit 1960s song, "Suspicion."
I love George Strait, and this is my favorite song of all time, so I'm usually picky and critical of covers. That being said, this is the best version I've heard next to George himself!
+vernTX Ahhh thank you I didn't notice him the first time I watched this he had his head down the second time I watched it I caught his guitar strap that says 'Ray' on it. You guys are awesome keep up the great music!
@@katsumi7998 Katsumi!! I saw his channel again yesterday...nothing new for way too long. I live in Israel..and have followed him for many years, he is special for sure
Jason, That was absolutely fantastic. To sing and play the fiddle --- George Strait can't do that. I haven't seen a better rendition yet (better than this video) of my favorite American Country & Western song. I see that you're approaching 102,000 views. I sing the song too. Right now, I've got 5 views --- uploaded last night (September 30, 2019): YOU TUBE: TOM KITCH "AMARILLO BY MORNING" (GEORGE STRAIT) AND "HE STOPPED LOVING HER TODAY" (GEORGE JONES) --'- my favorite two songs of the two King Georges.
@@potatosalad5355 finally someone I can agree with. Stafford's original,( there can be only one) was to me the best sounding with the slight reverb. I like all renditions, and listen to all.
I have many times on other video streams. Stafford did it first, best, more memorable. His song came out before CMT, TNN, ACM. Artists relied on radio play and record sales. Few toured like in later years. I made my own 8 track from 45s, sadly I left them in my 71 Torino GT that I gave my younger brother.
