Take care of your amaryllis to make sure it goes dormant. After it goes dormant it has a better chance of blooming in late winter or early spring.
Anyone interested in plants will enjoy the Greener View Gardening book. The playlists on the Greener View RU-vid channel match the chapters in the book. The book is available in soft cover and PDF formats. Go to shop.greenervi... for more information about the books.

Dry dormancy period - my amaryllis looks great right now (mid September - NJ) all green leaves….should I still cut them back to force the dormancy? Thanks

Don't let them get cold, so bring them in if you need to. If you have a bright window, they can go there for a few weeks as you cut back on watering. When you stop watering the leaves will slowly turn yellow and wilt. They can be cut off at that point as the leaves will have transferred their food into the bulb. If you don't have any room to do this, you can cut the leaves off sooner.

Love that you show progression of amaryllis….how long will it take the white stems to turn green in bright indirect light?

Thank you for the question, Janice. I have seen them turn green in 1 or 2 days on a window sill and in less than 24 hours when under direct light for a time lapse video. I have seen the same thing happen to daffodil and tulip stems when they started growing in a refrigerator that was being used to simulate winter to force the bulbs to grow.

I watched a couple of videos and have followed most of them. I watched your video on cutting the basal plate which is remarkable! I have taken mine out of the pot, fluffed the roots (which were wrapped around the bulb) and stuffed it in a paper bag. I'm tossed on cutting the leaves though. It has 5 that are around 4 feet tall. Should I chop the leaves? I was hoping it would dry a little.

Hi Tech, I would leave the leaves until they start turning yellow and wilting.
