I was a member of the ROC 50 odd Years ago. The Uniforms were very itchy. Used to have Exercises where the Team of 4 spent a whole Day down the hole. Had my First ever Flight. In a RAF Brittania from Brize Norton as a treat one Day. Did a flight round the UK. When we did the exercises there was a sealed box, with paperwork and information in it, including exposed film slides that had to be put in the camera so correct information could be passed back to control.
Done some ROC posts, dodgy explores, on here. Oxfordshire ones. In its own playlist. Nice things, some nicer than others, they come up on youTube. Done localones to me. or localish. car ride away. 3 in one day. First ones. Up white horse hill, 2nd one that day, Chain Hill, wantage and ended with Culham along the river. Done Boars hill (Oxford) and 3 montths ago, Longworth, On road to back way to witney. All Oxfordshire.
Co incidentally I am actually at RAF Brize Norton now. Re the ROC post I will have to take a walk to the one at Powick. Not that there was ever much to see :-)
@@chrisbartlett6022 Just doing a piece on it now. Old dummy airfield up by Coat, Aston. WW2 concrete structure. then on, some hours yet as about to do its rendering thing next. Told about this thing yesterday. 14 miles to it and a walk down the road, not much up there. Annoyed if missed a ROC post. Nor seen that one on the map as local, they all pinned on a map or by name. Some sub britanica web site I use.

That brings back memories as a not so old Observer….the pipe you weren’t sure what it did was the FSM or Fixed Survey Meter which allowed us to measure (in Röntgens) the outside levels of radiation without opening the hatch…the Bomb Power Indicator (or BPI) was a gauge fitted onto the round plate above the desk which told us the bombs power, the pin hole camera mounted on the hatch showed the direction in degrees and whether it was a ground or air blast…….I am still available incase of WW3 🤭

4:36 1968 i think were the main batch of post closures. When they removed the the "gray" fallout warning, leaving only attack warning red and the black fallout warning.
Very nice. As you say last ones 1991. Most left before. So some period stuff in it so looks the part. On the web site they are all on. Found this one on there. Some sad looking photos, They done nicely with it now. Done 5 local to me or loclish, car ride. in its own playlist. Do radio as well. 8 minutes in you menyion . Once I did, first ones, 3 in a day. Thought that was the gas and stop cock.Realise with others videos since, water sump.
Ooh do you do HF from there? I have an ROC Post (Cuckfield in Sussex) that I operate from, often on 80m - would be great to make a post-to-post contact sometime!

Very much enjoyed this video, thank you for making. Combines a couple of my personal interests. The ROC post looks in great condition. I have been down a few local ones to me but they are in very poor condition compared to that one, way to damp to sit operating my radios lol. It's great people are looking after this one and both continuing to share the history and introduce radio ops to new generations.
Great video marra, used to have one very near me on the coast at Kinley Hill Seaham but sadly like a lot of them I suspect, its had its guts ripped out remember being a youngin and seeing observer Corp personnel there did get a look inside a few year ago but as a say just a shell very interesting to see what would have been inside M7GNR barry
Thanks Nathan. I thought that at first but Mark showed me a pole that is pushed up that pipe. I think it was to put some sort of air quality monitor outside and then bring it back in….
Interesting video Ian, it piqued my interest it’s been 10yrs since I visited my local “Secret Nuclear Bunker” one near my qth in Nantwich Cheshire, quite a large one as I remember. Keep up the good work. 73 de M7PBX.
Interesting video I've all ways been fascinated about newclear bunkers I will have a trip to this bunker when the weather gets warmer I live just down the road from hack green nuclear bunker it great place to visit.
