One of the key advantages of HAM radio is its ability to function without relying on external power sources. When disasters result in power outages, HAM radio operators can continue to operate using alternative power options such as batteries, generators, or solar power. This independence from the power grid ensures that communication remains uninterrupted, even in the most challenging situations.
Appears there is a total reverse shift in the dissemination of what actually is Ham Radio as the footage in the video and its content suggests! Ham Radio or Amateur Radio is primarily a hobby where licenced Ham operators communicate among themselves through radio frequencies in various Ham alloted bands by ITU. Hams around the world does numerous experiments and when they make a contact with another Ham in simplex or VHF/UHF/HF/SSB/AM Net, the topic of discussion usually spins around clarity of signals, type of rig, tx power, antennas, etc including weather report, location and yes, also hi/hello well-being of each other. Topics that are frowned upon in the Ham bands are anything that is Politics or Religion. To be a Ham operator one needs to qualify an exam conducted by the ministry of telecommunications, get a station operators licence and then come live on air. And to be an effective communicator one has to be fluent in spoken as well as written English as no other languages are permitted in the Ham bands. Hams believe in 'One World and One Language' which is English! Unlike the mobile telephony where people communicate in their own free style, in Ham Radio there is a distinctive style of communicating governed by certain protocols which every Ham is expected to adhere worldwide. The advise to new or would-be Hams is to always first listen as much as possible to the Nets in the Ham frequencies and then only come live on air for a ragchew! Coming to the second part is that in times of emergencies, such as natural calamities, the government may seek the service of Hams only through a formal written request and for which a special callsign may be also alloted for the specific operation. However, barring this, Ham Radio or Amateur Radio is primarily a hobby and let us enjoy this fantastic hobby within its four walls without distorting it's purpose. We make mistakes and we learn from our mistakes too for correcting them:) Apparently, many private institutes and Ham training camps in India are twisting the amateur radio syllabus by posing it as a primarily disaster management and job oriented course which is absolutely misleading.
