unfortunatly this works only with small number of polygons, when you have a big scene with complicated materials, Tthe viewport of 3ds max becomes laggy and have jagged shadows so you need to use clipping and use lower graphics settings.

This is a PBR-based game engine. there will be problems with reflections, refractions, global illumination, just a beautiful picture not tied to physics.

Everyone borrows from the Blender), the Eevee render has been able to do this for a long time. Because of this, I switched to a Blender.

mmmm not really. Eevee is really powerful, but from what I showcase here eevee can NOT do most of the stuff. EEVEE can not display OSL in viewport as I do here. Eevee has no lighting from HDRI as I display here. (eevee has other cool features, sure).

@@andvfx If you mean procedural textures, then they are highly developed in eevee and are shown, HDR is supported. 3d max is very afraid of competition from the Blender, because many specialists leave it. @@andvfx Eevee does have lighting from hdri's but doesn't have shadows as it treats hdri's as an emission material.

this is great, but we still don't have realtime sss visible , like the substancepainter for example... It would be amazing to see corona, vray and arnold materials being displayed in the viewport with the same quality shown in the video, maybe someday 🤞🤞

Problem with Substance is it aint doing the calculations right for all other programs. What I mean is there are always discrepancies, and this hints to me that different algorythms are being used. Aside from that, Substance has around 20% of the data to calculate, making it also much lighter for it to do real time. Same deal with ZBrush (along with its out of this world coding), which allows it to do some crazy calculations other 3D software cannot. It doesn't even have half the data that other 3D software needs to calculate. So this is quite understandable I guess when some software have a harder time to do real time.

@@arcademastersify and yet you are correct, on their roadmap site for 3dsmax i just saw they want to add sss to active view 😃 That would be awesome if they manage it. I never expected they would try 🙂

Shame that the options are so much scattered . It is good but still not too confortable to use. Sampling of shadows is very anoying some times… flickering hard. But yeah in a controlled experiment like yours looks cool :)

Agreed! some rethinking of UI for viewport is needed. For shadows I hope they expose one day the shadow resolution, that by default its 512px and not enough.

3d max, CAD, alias... Difficult and impractical programs... There are many easy and fast programs now. I'm not surprised at all.

Love your videos. I am currently using 2022 and was recently working on a project. I moved from a 2080ti to a 4080 and re-opened the project and started working and from what I can tell there was no performance upgrade. The FPS is the same. Is this proper or am I missing something? Thanks.

Against popular opinion, 3dsmax is widely way more used than houdini and maya combined. 3dsmax is used widely in archviz, advertising, in medical visualization, engineer visualization, in videogames, and in vfx its used in different departments mostly in generalist departments for his flexibility, but you could see animations, FX or really anything done in 3dsmax. Maya is more widely used in animation and houdini in FX.

On "Per view settings" there is a value to "Fade" the progressive passes, and will eliminate that flicker.
