This set certainly have the right idea about storing discs in individual cases. But unfortunately they also stacked the Lawrence of Arabia and Gandhi discs on top of each other which is a big no no in my book.

Can’t remember the last time Columbia Pictures made a great movie after the Sony buyout. Well, other than Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. But it’s been mostly campy blockbusters and Spider-Man since then.

Sony has been preparing for 4k for a while now, so they had a lot of 4k transfers pretty much ready to go on the 4k format.

Finally a studio gets the packaging right! That's beautiful and so well done. Much better than the Marvel and Star Wars sets. I too was leary of this but now I definitely want it in my collection. Thanks Jeff and Sony!

@@JeffRauseo that doesn't take much 😂 now that I have a receiver and speakers I know what everyone's been talking about when they've said Disney Atmouse and needing to turn up the volume. And those Star Wars and Marvel sets were ok but having to slide the discs into cardboard unprotected is a big turn off. I know they're more scratch resistant than DVDs and all that but still it doesn't make to design a much better presentation for such epic collections.

@Jim Messenger The Star Wars box set is fantastic. I didn't like the embedded disc sleeves, but no problem. I used a rubber coated glove, to remove the discs without scratching them. Then, I put the discs in replacement cases. Easy.

The quality of this set reminds me of the first box set of Jurassic Park and The Lost World on DVD. That one is still the definition of best designed box set. Outstanding work Sony. You can't do this with digital copies. Physical forever!

@@obstmann7740 If the hdr is well done it will be worth it(especially if it supports Dolby Atmos for that amazing score). Plus I don't own the the 4k mastered Blu Ray, I own the 1080p mastered Blu-ray so itll be a significant jump for me.

The disks are stacked but I don't think they designed the case that it would make it difficult to remove the 4k disks, the ones that have 2 4k disks anyways.

The good thing about that box is that you can take the individual titles out and store them on your shelf. Example. Lawrence is going in with my other David Lean films.

Columbia/Sony did a great job with the packaging. So happy they are individual cases. Pricing is right. Wonder what volume 2 will include. Maybe you'll do a video on what you hope/think may be in volume 2.

Hey man, there's a decent community of us on Reddit who have tried getting in contact with 20th Century and even Criterion to get Chopper re-released in at least a Blu Ray format. It is fairly obscure so I doubt you've seen it but you should definitely check it out. If possible even get in contact with Criterion and help the cause. Apparently it's also a hidden Jem on Australia that they are very proud of, so it'd be nice to do something to get Australian Cinema a little bit of exposure.

Yes the disks are stacked, the blu ray is on top and the 4k is on bottom.

It’s because the movie is separated into two parts to take advantage of the disc space. This is the same with “Gandhi”.

I doubt this will happen, but if volume 2 does well in sales, I hope they do a reprint on Volume 1 since I never got a chance to get that one. I was lucky enough to preorder Volume 2 and get it on release date.

So for the films spread across two 4k discs like Lawrence of Arabia, are there discs stacked on top of each other? If so that sucks cause every time I get movies where the discs are stacked, they always end up super scratched. Most recent example several of the Star Wars 4k sets I bought.

Agreed. All 3 discs in my 4K "Dunkirk" set had scratches and smudges on them. Cleaning didn't work. I'll hold off for an individual release of this film and hope it's packaged better.

I agree, they should have had them like how most animes which is with a sort of flipper inside the case so that all the disks can fit in without them having to be stacked.... Though the thing with that is often times that flipper is pretty fragile and breaks often..... I know because I collect a lot of blu-rays.

Just received mine! Was juggling with the idea of keeping it unopened since there was only 8,000 that was produced! But couldn’t keep myself to open it haha best decision i made so far and I didn’t even watch the movies yet! Only the box set is amazing. Only downside: No digital copies came with mine. Is it the same for you guys? But for sure I’m awaiting for the next volume, maybe there is some Easter eggs in the booklet that give you some insights on the next volume

Seeing as this set comes with each movie with their own case does mean they plan to release these movies individually in 4k.... Disney did this with the skywalker set 4k when you can either buy all 9 in 4k or buy indivual ones in 4k.

I strongly doubt that River Kwai will be in there since it's been released on 4K UHD already. Definitely Taxi Driver, and probably It Happened One Night or another Capra film.

For me Taxi Driver, On the waterfront and It happened one night are classics and valid choices. I liked the Social Network and I would like to see a 4K release but not for the box. The same for Oliver, Tootsie and Captain Philips. The Bridge on the River Kwai has already a 4K release. Why still no Shawshank Redemption? It's no. 1 in the IMDB top 250 and distributed by Columbia. The same for The seven samurai also released by Columbia. And some of my personal favourites: Gattaca, The man who would be king, Being John Malkovich (also because the picture quality of the blu rays is not that good). Oh well, hopefully box 3!

throwing jerry mcguire and league of their own on there looks like columbia saving some of their other heavy hitters for vol 2 taxi driver, last emperor, midnight express, kramer vs kramer, close encounters of the third kind, on the waterfront, guns of navarone would all be awesome for columbia to remaster in 4k

Okay that is great that Sony put out Gandhi,Mr.Smith,Dr.StrangeLove and Lawrence but those are true classics. Pretty random to put Jerry Maguire and A League of their own in this set. I am sure Columbia had 2 other classics they could've put in there besides 2 random 90s movies.

Disappointing that they apparently stacked the discs atop each other. All 3 discs in my "Dunkirk" 4K set were scratched with smudges right out of the box from that. Hopefully these will get separate individual releases, by which time the bonus disc issue will be fixed.

No information is known for vol 2 at the moment..... Most likey vol 2 will be a holiday release near the end of the year or somewere in 2021

They actually have the films all on one disc in 4K. (So not a Titanic multi-disc feature situation.) The BD is usually either just another copy of the film in BD, or it's a BD for special features. (At least that's how it's been going with the dozens of 4Ks I've gotten so far.)

I agree they didn't put the glue thing much on the backer card for this set compared to the skywalker saga set were it kind of damages the front..... But I do like the black softness of the cover and the way it opens up in the skywalker saga set..... Sure a lot people complain about the cardboard sleeves but honestly I pefer those instead of stacked disks like in this set.

They plan to release these individually, similar to Disney with the skywalker saga set releasing episode 1-6 individually on 4k so if you really don't want the other movies just wait until the indivual releases..... But I don't they will have the same slipcovers

You DID NOT specify if the Digitals were combined into one single code, meaning that all 6 must be redeemed as a bundle, or if the sheet has 6 separate pass keys for individual download. Would like to know this information. Thanks !

It's a bundle, as you can see in the video he only accidently pulls out one of the sheet for the digital code which means it's 1 code for all 6 movies.

Dragoner Productions That is not always the case. Sometimes you get a single sheet with 6 codes. In this case, according to Blu-ray.com, this IS a single sheet with 6 codes. Not a single sheet with one code for all 6 movies. It’s been confirmed, for those who want to know.
