One only needs to look at his footwork to see how good this guy was ... smooth, effortless, graceful and beautiful. For those who trained under this Master were lucky beyond words.

how GOOD this guy was!??!yeah really good..i wonder how any years you have to train before you can use MAGIC to make people flip in the air? Like at 5:55
@tylercooper9233
@tylercooper9233 6 лет назад
It is just correct form and understanding of physiology... and how the central and periphery nervous systems react differently to stress and attack. You would notice if you were more subtle that there is no magic, he first takes their vision, then their balance, then he throws them by applying his weight to their own structure in a way that they can't resist. That he has absorbed foundations to such a degree that they seem to disappear is very different than magic. I think the master actually does a very good job of explaining how it is not magic, he is indeed touching on their awareness even on the throws where he doesn't physically touch them... maybe watch the video at half speed so you can see how he goes for the eyes first... they even slow some of the throws down already so that you can see the thought process of the uke as they are thrown or disarmed. If you really think the only way this is possible is magic, then maybe you would benefit from taking an Aikido class, so that you could empathize with how painful it is to be even a little bit incorrect in your technique. It is much easier to understand when you feel the process on yourself.

Fifteen years with him so far and still training. I admit this might seem strange to watch but he can do everything he says he can do and more.As far as marketing there is a small student body and the emphasis is on training, not belt testing every six months that you get charged for and the mat fees are very reasonable.As far as his personal ability to defend himself he is very capable,very.As far as it being staged, you are discouraged (I use that word euphemistically ) from anticipating movement, the emphasis is on being in the moment.Things can and do change at any time.He is tireless in his pursuit of perfection as an instructor and human being.This video is not reflective of our current training and has not been since I have been with him although the principals definitely are.There are many more current videos available online that show our contemporary training.If you passionate enough to bash this one you might want to check them out.

My son and I had the honor and privilege of training with Sensei Barrish in the early '80's. It is all real and this video does not begin to show the half of it. Though we moved on and took other paths - we both still use what we learned. Most of all, we use what Sensei taught us to heal the anger of the world around us as we live in peace. What better means of "self defense" is there?

Aikido at its purest is not a martial art that destroys but one that protects, its a mind thing. Most people fall into the trap thinking that Aikido is a SELF defense, at least I have and still do. There is no SELF in Aikido so it cant be a SELF defense, there is only protection of the life force and because there is no SELF, protection means of ALL living things including the person who attacks you. Aikido is inclusion of ALL things, nothing is left out. You need to open your mind to see this.

I know this may look strange to someone who is not familiar with the tradition or the technique, but from what I can tell... the uke has no choice... the teacher is always a beat in time ahead of them and first throws off their balance in their eyes, and only after controlling the eyes, he sink his bodyweight into their blindspots. He is actually so much faster then his students, he waits until the very last moment before moving at all, but that is not an indication of fake-ness or forgery, but rather a demonstration of skill and ability. The best answer I can give to anyone who is skeptical is.... GOOD, be skeptical, go find someone who claims to have this ability and attack them, and see what happens! If they are a good teacher then they shouldn't mind demonstrating movement and proving that it is valuable... But you won't really know until you experience it with your own body, what is happening, what it feels like to be thrown in this way. The master is moving quickly and gracefully, so quick in fact that untrained people don't have any way to wrap their head around what is going on... but that doesn't mean that it is fake or a lie or anything so nefarious.

This is Koichi Barrish sensei, now high priest of Tsubaki Grand Shrine. You can see some other videos of him on youtube, he grew older and obviously get rid of this kind of... performance that you see in this video. However, I remember some of his students state how "he could really do these things, and more" - or something like that.

This is a demonstration of KI flow, of LOVE if you want to call it that. Not a demonstration to prove that Aikido works as a martial art, there is no need to prove that. Aikido does not and will not make you invincible, it has never claimed to be such a thing, it however teaches you how to share with others the caring nature of the universe within ourselves and towards each other. Think about the psyche of the attacker why does he want to harm you or take something off you?

Olha, talvez não. Olha no nome do video Ki Waza. Concordo contigo quant a hakama

Both some interesting plausible and meaningful elements to this video but a lot of mixed-in BS. The instructor is actually very good if you know aikido but you cannot express a visual expression of a martial art the way they do. His philosophy and referencing to O'Sensei is very accurate but, on the physical level the average Joe does not get it. Strong violent attacked being reflected and subdued can be achieved but for the most part much of aikido is weak and will get smashed. These Uke's are falling like feathers in the wind and whilst I get the exercise of expression and receiving of energy but a good hard right hook the face doesn't get it. There is however a lot of very strong aikido out there that will smash an attacker on the street - many examples. There are often soft scenarios where the attacker gets some pain but is ultimately left unharmed. Its just not on show as it is not a competitive or a violent art form. People love violence. They are attracted to it. Practice it. Watch it. Bet on it. Violence however is not the ultimate win. 'To kill one hundred enemy in one hundred battles is not the highest skill, to subdue the enemy without fighting is the highest skill'. Warriors train for peace. Look at Anderson Silva. Machida and many more phenomenal athletes and true humble warriors who have never fought the street who respect the true essence of BUDO - and what is the true essence of BUDO? BUDO means to stop war/violence. This is the philosophy of aikido also. So the founder was absolutely onto something but leaning away from the destructive to the reconciliatory, to peace, to flow, to not being there, non-resistant, flexible, feather-like. But remember what the founder said the most important technique in aikido is? Ski. A punch in the face. Yin-Yang. Hard-soft. BJJ for instance. Soft. Pliable. harmonious. One-on-one amazing the best subduing martial art out there, no question. Would they go to ground on the street? Probably end up resorting to type, to muscle/training memory. Would that be good if there were two, three, four attackers? No. Your stuffed. Would aikido be better? Probably. If someone came at you with a stick, sword, knife, gun would aikido be better? Probably. Horses for courses. But the answer is no violence. Violence should only be justified in one scenario. The strong protecting the weak. The licence of true violence is to stop war. To bring peace. Could aikido be leading the pack? Perhaps. For you non-Aikido believers who have never been exposed to serious aikido teachers you might like to see stronger aikido, ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-A0D9w0lGFv0.html ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-UfJQwgTT7w0.html ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-EjNbASY_P1A.html ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-b2F0xRjpntg.html ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-b5wrkVx9okQ.html Aikido Weapons work: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-XfQaYvBhceU.html ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-kIvLfsojItw.html ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-II99lo-9Gcs.html

Its because he feels he is lacking something, that somebody else has what he doesnt have, he feels worthless and want to take worth away from others, he wants to harm people because he himself is hurting. How can we heal this person from this hell he lives in? By destroying him physically? why is there a need for us to destroy him? Does that not make us on the same level as himself? Think about this and you'll see where the truth of Aikido lies.

+Roki Gamboa I trained under lots of different styles, because I moved around a lot-- some teachers were completely traditional, some interested in judo or jujitsu or practical police street techniques, some who had black belts in deadly fighting arts before starting Aikido. Certainly some of those teachers would also think this is baloney. But luckily I have trained with some who were close to this style, so I can see what he is doing, know how it would feel to be uke. His placement and energy are impeccable. He has a very fine martial awareness, is never open to attack. Uke is in fact completely controlled. Never met Barrish myself, but I do know enough that it is obvious to me he knows just what he is doing. If you get a chance try this sort of style, you will find out for yourself. That is the only way to convince yourself- I know from my own initial skepticism.

+2007EMILYELIZABETH Please keep an open mind til you can feel it for yourself- by spouting uninformed opinions you are an embarrassment. This is a martial art, he knows exactly what he is doing, would chew up any of us and spit us out- if he wanted to. I never met Barrish Sensei, but I did spend 2 5-day seminars with Hikitsuchi Sensei, 2 3-day seminars with Kato Sensei, related styles and completely effective. Actually they represent only one facet of O Sensei's art. There are many valid other facets, it is true. Like the blind men and the elephant...The reason this sort of style is often not seen is because it takes real talent and dedication to do it- other paths are more obvious and more easily learned and demonstrated and explained. Plus, some teachers keep this sort of thing as a sort of secret and don't teach it. didactically- the student has to "steal" it from the teacher. Or, some don't know how to teach it, or think students won't want or won't be able to learn it. To me though this is more interesting, feels better on your body, is deeper and more subtle, and also ultimately much more effective in different senses.
