◆日光[中禅寺湖・戦場ヶ原]の紅葉
日光にある中禅寺湖は日本一標高の高い場所にある湖といわれます。例年10月中旬から10月下旬には見事な紅葉が湖畔を彩ります。なかでも半月山の山稜が湖中に突き出た「八丁出島」は圧倒的な美しさを誇ります。
中禅寺湖には明治中頃から昭和初期にかけて、多くの外国人や大使館の別荘が建てられました。今も残る旧英国大使館別荘や旧イギリス大使館別荘は建築物としても貴重で、中禅寺湖の美しい景色を存分楽しめるように建てられています。
また、その反対側にある遊覧船乗り場のある湖畔は賑やかです。
日光のもう一つの紅葉の名所は戦場ヶ原です。男体山を背景にカラマツの落ち着いた紅葉の色に染まります。戦場ヶ原には5kmのトレッキングコースがあり、たくさんの人々で賑わいます。ここの名物は湯葉コロッケ。ほんの少ししか湯葉が入っていないのがちょっと寂しいです。

◆Amazing Autumn Leaves in Lake Chuzenji and Senjogahara in Nikko
Lake Chuzenji in Nikko is said to be the highest lake in Japan. Every year from mid-October to late October, the lakeside is decorated with magnificent autumn leaves. Hatcho-de-jima," where the ridge of Mount Hangetsu protrudes into the lake, is especially beautiful.
From the middle of the Meiji period (1868-1912) to the beginning of the Showa period (1926-1989), many villas for foreigners and embassies were built on Lake Chuzenji. The former British Embassy Villa and the former British Embassy Villa, which remain today, are valuable as architectural structures and were built so that visitors can fully enjoy the beautiful scenery of Chuzenji Lake.
On the other side of the lake, the lakeside where the sightseeing boat pier is located is bustling with activity.
Another famous spot in Nikko for its autumn foliage is Senjogahara. With Mt. Nantai in the background, the larch trees are tinted with the subdued colors of the autumn leaves. Senjogahara has a 5-km trekking course that attracts many people. The specialty here is yuba croquettes. It is a little sad that there is only a little bit of yuba in it.
