Good day you awesome war torn RU-vid camera geeks!! I haven't done many lens reviews but this lens has developed such a cult following around it that I had to see for myself!
The lens we are looking at today is the Light Lens Lab 35mm f2 Eight Element. This lens is supposedly a clone of the famous version one Leica 35mm f2 Summicron Eight Element, a fabulous lens that was produced from 1958-1969. Does it really have the Summicron look, feel, and image quality? You'll find out the answer to this and more on this episode!
If you're just starting out and in search of your first 35mm M mount lens, you can save a lot of money and get a lot of satisfaction with these lenses:
7Artisans: amzn.to/3YlNyPG
Voigtlander: amzn.to/48clpOb
TTArtisan: amzn.to/3NmuASA
If you're shooting Fujifilm you cannot go wrong with this classic Fuji street lens:
amzn.to/488D2i2

Love the shots on your M9. Grain/noise is such a taboo these days. If only Henri Cartier-Bresson had known how important sharpness was, he might've got somewhere. It's all about atmosphere for me, like your night shots and the beach scene at 5:44. The lens sure can do sharp if you need it, though. Interesting, but not at that money, not for me at least. I have couple of old vintage pieces from Leica and Zeiss that do some sweet magic, and a wide from 7Artisans that is flawed, fun and a gem. Cheers & thanks!👍

@@johnpoulter Thanks for the kind words and for understanding what I'm doing with the photos, it's trying to get the feel and atmosphere as you said. Loved the HCB reference lol he sure did fine with his concept of sharpness 😂 Thanks again very much! 🙏📸🙏

Yeah, man don't get into that "content creator" bag, man, it's a bad trip. Just turn on the thing, and you know the thing, just rap for a while. You're cool, not into it for the big green and we can dig it. We just groove on your raps. Alright? Alright. Yeah. Stay good Mr Legend. Thanks for another cool and. thought-provoking video. Yeah that is nice boke, that's how they write in in Japan, it means blurry. Japanese vowels are exactly like Spanish, a, i, u, e, o. I like infinity lock, if it really is infinity, ha ha, because some aren't.

What a rendering, I’m not a 35mm guy, but that 50mm f2 and 1.2 catches my eye.

@@christopherrodriguez7223 Thanks Bud! I know you're more of a 50mm kinda guy and I can dig it because 50mm is more my thing too. I think the 50mm f/2 versions, especially the Elcan clone is another great bargain. The 50mm f/1.2 Nocti copy is probably fantastic but at over $2000 I think I'd stick to a real vintage lens like your Canon Dream Lens 😍 Thanks for sharing your thoughts I appreciate it! 🙏🙏👍

good condition non-goggled originals are going for like 3000 US. the LLL is actually a tiny bit better towards the periphery, too. And given what Leica is asking for steel rim reissues, I gotta say I think this lens is a crazy good deal. I mostly own modern glass and do prefer it generally, but my LLL 8E has gotten TONS of use since I got it; it's unreal sharp at f5.6 in the center 2/3rds it just has noticeable field curvature even at infinity but oh well, the rendering more than makes up for it IMO. plenty sharp enough for the M11 IME.
@cameralegend1033
@cameralegend1033 19 часов назад
@@TCMx3 Thanks for sharing your experiences and insights on this lens! I've heard also that the LLL may be slightly sharper and I'm still curious as to what the differences, if any, there may be. But now that I'm happy using the LLL I'm not so much in a hurry to get that Leica in for testing. I agree with your observations on the field curvature and as shown on the video the vignetting is pretty pronounced on this lens as well and ironically all these technical "flaws" probably add to the overall character of this lens. Thanks again for your input and sharing your experiences I appreciate it!

Yes, at just over 1K, i've read everything about this lens since ever then. I'd love to own it. But i don't own a Leica M, but a CLE, with the Heliar 40/2.8...it is really excellent, both from size, IQ and price - into correlation to each other, and very tiny...ideal for street. 🙂 The 1st edition of the 7A 35/F2 wasn't that great, really. Too much optical flaws, distortions, vignetting...but therefore it was way cheap, well...for an M mount lens.
@cameralegend1033
@cameralegend1033 День назад
I've never tried the Heliar 40mm f/2.8 but I'll trust your word that it's a great lens and one I'd like to try eventually. Appreciate your comments and input! Thank you!

I don't think it does enough to warrant the cost different from the 7A 35/2. Slightly better in the transitions/bokeh...but not like the difference between either the LLL or 7A compared to a Summicron. The 7A is also definitely sharper at lower apertures and appears to have more contrast. Not that those things are "better," just worth noting for some people. Plus the 7A is $180 (or less!) used. Making it a pretty absurd bargain.
@cameralegend1033
@cameralegend1033 Час назад
@@SourPlanet I appreciate your honest opinion and I'd say based on my own experience with the 7Artisans that you got some valid points. Though I haven't done any side by side testing, it's my impression that the 7Artisans may be sharper at the lower aperture ranges as you said. At mid f/5.6-f/8 they are both very sharp, people would be splitting hairs to say who wins. However with the Light Lens Lab 35mm Eight Element, it is probably more of a case of people willing to pay a little more to get the Leica "mystique" and rendering as this lens is virtually the same as the Leica Eight Element at 1/3 the price. Not everyone likes the rendition but Leicaphiles are a sentimental bunch. The 7Artisans if taken on its own merit is a great lens and a tremendous value for money, especially when compared to the competition. I appreciate your thoughts thank you!

@@cameralegend1033 I definitely agree the LLL has more Leica in it than the 7A. It's wild that this sort of very specific delineation is just 100% lost on 99% of people lol. Leica users know right away exactly what's being discussed, though.
