Really fascinating to see a traditional craft being used with newer technology. Very inventive and inspiring. Must have taken a while to build that inventory of tools and skill.

This is why I love RU-vid so much. I NEVER would have thought to use a pneumatic system for blacksmithing. Thank you RU-vid. And thank you, sir.

Seen a lot of other forged wizards, and the somewhat similar "Tennesee Troll" by Bill Epps. However, I really like the extra steps Mr. Thomas took to give it more definition, and personalize a classic.

I am a simple hobby blacksmith who uses only non powered tools. That's because I have no power tools. You sir are a true blacksmith and I can only hope to come close to your experience level some day (year). For those that look down on a blacksmith because he or she uses power tools, they are inexperienced and have no idea what a real blacksmith is. If modern blacksmiths were not meant to use power tools then it would surely be a dead art because we would all be banging rocks on bigger rocks. Thank you so much for posting your video. Very educational, well done and fun to watch.

Thanks John Terrett for the support, I get totally pissed off at people who seem to have nothing better to do but shit on people who are showing their stuff. It is exactly why I don't put stuff on here. I am a Master Craftsman Blacksmith and have been smithing for over 50 years, should you wish to view, I am on facebook Joe Parkes and go to Joe the Blacksmith, it is a public page and has good pics on it. By the way I'm in New Zealand and quite often swap chat and idea's etc with Gary Huston in the UK. Thanks again....Cheers

what people dont realise is that you work your way up and when you get older you have to, i used to cut steel with a hacksaw, i saved up and bought a plasma cutter, i can now get stuff out quicker and arguably better, i first tried turning on a pole lathe, now its a electric lathe, i dont see the problem here, nearly everyone doing this sort of stuff started off with just a hammer, saw and maybe a drill, all available for a few bucks at flea markets or given by friends/relatives, and how old school do you want to take it? charcoal and hand bellows? or maybe just even charcoal and an updraft chimney and bashing pure ore out of rocks? just rock on with the best that youve got making things to the best quality possible, all the way up to using a cnc machine, its all about the individual and the skill and effort they put into their work, peace out, keep working those hands brothers and sisters

I think he makes a nice wizard but I certainly hope it's not passed off as hand forged. Way too many presses and dies. The beauty of hand forged is in the uniqueness of each piece and the artistic sweat and talent of the smitty.
@shawncasey4416
@shawncasey4416 6 лет назад
thepoultrypeople the only reason the ancients didn't use power equipment... they are the ancients. No one appreciates that when trying to make a living shaving off 20 hrs. of unpaid labor makes a difference. Live and let live right?
@danielkaufman208
@danielkaufman208 6 лет назад
There's a great deal of difference between hand forged blacksmithing and metal fabrication using plasma cutters and presses to do all the labor. I have no problem with folks trying to make a living making using modern technology, just don't pass it off as hand forged if your not hand forging it. Blacksmiths would be able to make a decent living if they only had to compete with fellow tradesmen for customers. The problem for artisan blacksmiths today stem from a citizenry which as a whole, is unable to discern the differences between a legitimate hand forged piece of work as compared to mass produced products molded or stamped by foreign countries or machined in a fabrication shop. Let's work on a level playing field, if you hand forge great, if you machine most of your work then advertise it truthfully. I believe there's a substantial difference comparing someone using a gas forge over a bellows operated coal forge to someone basically eliminating a hammer and anvil substituting a plasma cutter and trip hammer to make a product. Blacksmithing is not about the ancients not having power tools, it's about preserving a craft of days gone by.

That's very cool, the way he uses traditional along with hydraulic & air tools . I especially like all the home made jigs he has. They look rough & hastily put together. But the end results speak for themselves & functional as opposed to pretty ... has a lot going for it IMO.
