Man all the suggestions you've all given has been great!! Opened my eyes to a few more vehicles that I wouldn't have thought of. Thank you for sharing your input!!!
Toyota 4 runner all the way!!! You could even get a 4th gen and it would be cheaper and you could do a lot of cool things like bigger tires, lift kit, all that good jazz
Thank you so much for making these. I've been following you for at least a year now and I barely fish. But I swear you are me in a different universe. Never stop being such a positive soul and creator. I'll buy more merchandise when I get my taxes :)
You definitely need to be more safety conscious man. Lifejacket at least on these rocks. And on your boat. And using the engine kill switch lanyard. We don't want to lose you!
Honda CRV had it for 15 years with no issues til now. Well-maintain too. Bought it brand new. Our whole family are vloggers and we all watched you on big screen every night. Love your channel ever since. Enjoyed much.
It used to be. Now we get to watch salmon fishing videos, could not be more boring. Way to go you caught a salmon with a flasher who cares. Everyone can buy salmon at the grocery store. Other fisherman will come along on RU-vid and will recognize the gorgeous beauty of rock fishing, and I'll enjoy those videos. Boats are boring. Rockfishing all the way. Instead of being boring Matts should just go to other coastlines and fish for other species. Like go to Mexico, Canada, South America, England, go to Greece, go to Africa bro. It's your job. Do it.
my AWD Honda CRV has done me good for a number of things. My dad has worked for Honda for more than 35 years, and my CRV has moved me cross country four times, survived a hurricane, taken me off-roading when all the roads were closed and shut down, has gotten me through Louisiana's floods, Texas highlands, Virginia/West Virginia/Kentucky mountains, plus has a customizable option to attach a tent. Fits me, my partner, and my two large dogs, including my SAR K-9's hard crate all comfortably. Love that thing. 17 years old, 180k miles and still going strong.
We just got a Honda pilot touring and love it. Has 110 plug in center console, DVD player in back, 4wd, 3.5L v6 the list goes on. 2" lift and bigger tires it will be the ultimate daily/outdoors buggy.
LOVE this channel, Outdoor Chef, Ish, Nick and Die Hard Fishing. Thanks for inspiring me to start my own channel. Maybe I'll see them guys out on the water.
I have a Nissan X-Terra and it meets all your criteria, I have it rigged up to be an overland camping rig now and I love it. I sleep in it and fish and cook out of it all the time. It’s perfect for almost anything like that outdoors.
Hello Wonderful beautiful day catching lingcod fish 🐟. That was a massive Hella of strong fish 🐟 grate job an say hi to Daniel hope he got some good fish 🐟 as well. By the way I'd am getting little bit worried feeling more sick from Congestive Heart feller an painreatic cancer, I'd hopeing that I'd don't have to go hospital.. hope hear from you an Daniel you's bouth take 🙏 😉 👍 care God bless You's both 🙏 and you're family's 👪 .
I have a toyota rav 4. All wheel drive. It's super comfortable. Drives very well on off road. Back seats folds in so you could sleep in it. Also the truck floor opens up to store stuff away without using the actual truck space. Look into it.
@@nathankean7968 i actually this that sienna he was talking about is pretty good, now I’ve never hear of someone supercharging one but sounds like fun 😂
Get the Toyota Sienna. Super comfortable for road trips, very smooth ride, seats in the back can fold all the way down, and a very "Deep" trunk. Van's nowadays got zero space in the trunk. Great on gas too. You'll love it!
I'm a firm believer in the underated awd sienna! People hate on minivans but it's everything you want in a crossover but better. Tons of cargo space, toyota reliability, great gas mileage for the size. That build sounds so sick
had to move away from the Pacific and watching that water swirl around the rocks really made my heart smile. thanks for the vids homey, had to go buy a hat to support ya
@@FishermansLife love your channel bro. I'm the founding member of the butterGang... So far it consists of just me, myself, and I but I think more of your fans will come around. We need some butterGang merch my dude. I'd buy a hoodie or shirt. Either way, just keep doing what you're doing because as an east coaster, your humble yet funny and real demeanor is the reason you're the only cali based channel I watch
Hey Matts,.... I really enjoy your videos, keep up the great work! Definitely,... a Toyota Sienna AWD,... Great gas mileage, lots of room, inexpensive repairs, great family car, and excellent for camping!
If the outback still can only tow 2500lb it won't work for towing most boats. It was unfortunate when I was selling Subarus and people wanted an outback but they needed towing capability. Then the ascent came around and it was a bit better at 5k towing capacity.
Subaru ascent or outback (depending on if you need 3 rows or not) is a great option. They've been doing awd for a long time, and really know what they're doing. Definitely my suggestion.
My girlfriend just bought a 2021 rav4 hybrid le and it’s amazing we take it to the coast all the time and it has all the space we need 👍🏼 the rav4s are the top selling SUV right now!
Hey Matts im at 7;05 you just asked the questian about a new ride. I can tell you for sure that a Ford F-150 even a used one is the way to go. It has all the stuff u just wanted. I love mine, best vehicle Ive ever owned $ for $ ...
Volvo XC90 AWD. Luxury, 26mpg, safest suv crash ratings. My wife and I just bought a used 2017 for $24k and it only had 40,000 miles on it. Friggen love it. We test drove the highlander over it and this just whoops the highlanders butt for the amount of stuff you can pack in it. We have 3 English mastiffs that fit in the rear too
Love it. I have not been able to watch any fishing videos since I got Covid. You made my day. I love the Sieanna because it is roomy and smooth ride. Stay safe.
That was a good day off the rocks. Best bait for Lings I have found is Sand Dabs. I used them off Ft Brag on party boats. Then you could keep 5 Lings and the size averaged what you caught today. The females were half again bigger. I took home fillets that were 20 inches, best fish I ever ate 'cept for fresh Salmon.
To answer your car question. I would recommend Subaru. Specifically CrossTrek or Outback. Both are all wheel drive, plenty of space, good gas mileage and they hold their value well too. Not to mention they are actually affordable unlike Toyota, which cost a arm and leg these days (tacomas).
You are an inspiration to me. I cook on camera, but I have never been fishing. Watching you catch cab and greenling is fascinating, because we have them in my area, but they DO NOT sell them in the stores. If I ever want to cook these fish, I will need to go and catch them MYSELF. My buddy is an avid fisherman, and he is planning to take me fishing with him, so we can do a catch and cook. I'm nervous, but enthusiastic. I probably would have been much less enthusiastic, had I not been a fan of your show first. Keep up the excellent work! And my 2 cents: I don't like Siennas. I owned one for years, and I wouldn't imagine it would be up to the task of off roading, no matter what you might do it.
New vehicle...consider your sleep space as a tall guy. I recently read that crew cab sleeping is not so good and sleeping in the truck bed is better. You’ll do what’s needed for the family, no doubt.
I just picked up the subaru forester and i love it. Snow, dirt, sand it does it all. I just do overland type trips so it works. They also have a larger subaru if you need the tow capacity.
My 2011 4Runner has all the luxury I need and has got me through some treacherous offroading, including creek crossing even being stock. It's likely the only vehicle I buy in the future.
Depends on how many people you are going to have in your car. But I like a nice pick up. You can outfit the bed of the truck to be a nice place to sleep, and haul gear. With the larger passenger compartment you can have 4 people comfortably, but 5 can fit in it though it isn't the most comfortable. It can get them to haul gear, your boat, kayak, and all that with a bed. I've slept in the bed of my truck a few times with just the regular cover on it, though you need some kind of cushion to lay on, it is doable.
Enjoy your videos. I always watch as soon as they're out. I have a Toyota Sienna myself, they are great for all your needs. If you got one I'm sure you would be happy with it.
I would highly suggest a 4Runner they are very cheap if you could one used we have one and love it. It’s also practically indestructible. In my opinion it’s an overall better buy then the sienna.
I've had Jeeps and I had a Kia once too but buying a Subaru Forester was the best move I ever made- it never gets stuck, makes big power from its boxer engine (like a Porsche), great gas mileage and drives like a car. I highly recommend buying one that's 2 years old, you can save a ton of money. I use window inserts from ebay and sleep in mine on fishing trips too.
I rented a Hyundai Sante Fe to drive to Cape Cod Canal from WV. It got 32mpg going 80 the whole way. Extremely comfortable. Seats fold flat. Storeage box in the back. Tons of room. Excellent stereo and AC. I rented a decked out Pathfinder 2 weeks later. Terrible compared to the Santa Fe awd with turbo. Im a Toyota guy. 2 4 runners, an FJ Cruiser and and 2 pick ups under my belt. If you aren't out in the woods and travel long distance I recommend that Sante Fe to anyone. Im surprised Hyundai hasn't sent me a Christmas card yet.
VW Atlas. 3 rows. Relatively cheap. Good options on second to lowest trim. I got my wife a 2018 Atlas SE w/ Technology. It has radar cruise, blind spot, 3 zone climate, heated seats, apple car play, and android auto. Ton of room, I can fit in the third row at 5'11-6ish. Do yourself a favor and check out a used one. Vw's warranty isn't too bad also. Let me know if you have any questions on it.
I used to work at Toyota dealership and Toyotas are some of the best vehicles on Earth. Believe it or not the vehicle I sold the most is actually the Sienna and those are some fantastic vans!!!!
I'd take a long look at the Mazda CX5 or CX9 if you need a third row. They get a lot out of 4 cylinders and the CX5 has the split rear seat passthrough that's perfect for long rods. If you want more off-road capability I'd look at a Subaru Forester or Outback, the Outback has a perfectly flat deck when the rear seat is folded down making sleeping in the car very easy. With the Forester, you'll need to build a sleeping deck or use an air mattress.
I van lifed in a 4x4 sienna. thing chugged gas and i only used the 4x4 3 or 4 times. just go with the 2wd IMO. If you're going to go off road bring a winch. I got recently got a diesel colorado. gets amazing gas mileage 25-30mpg, tows my 21 foot arima no problem, and has plenty of room inside for a family. Downside is that you'd have to get a camper shell if you want to sleep in it comfortably
You asked about a vehicle I would suggest a Toyota sequoia. It has 4 wheel drive the sleeping room you want off road ability and the family ability too. We have one for all those reasons ourselves. Plus it has tow ability too. I highly recommend it or a smaller version the 4runner.
I am super happy you weighed that lingcod because tons of people are out here lying about their lingcod weight! My PB lingcod is also 29" 9.6lbs, caught off the shore of the south jetty of Humboldt Bay, its tuff pulling them out of them rocks! :) 29" is NOT 15-20lbs!!!
Jeep Patriot 4x4? Ford Explorer or escape? Depending on how old you wanna go they also have some V8 Jeep Grand Cherokees that aren’t too crazy expensive. Hope that may help👌🏻keep up the great videos!
You should really look at a half ton, 4x4, crew cab, pickup truck! I promise you will like it. they are soo nice nowadays, comfy ride, safe, you can do a setup like MAV's in the box. you'll be able to tow much bigger boats much further. Pickups really aren't hard to maneuver either. as for gas mileage all brands have multiple powertrain options to suite your needs. @ Fisherman's Life
I know you have tried ike jime before but you should try it to see how the fish keeps. Catch two fish, ike jime one and not the other and leave them in the fridge for a day or two or freeze them for a little while. That's where you will notice the difference.
