After watching many videos of British military bands, I just noticed in this one that the gray overcoats of the Scots Guards, irrespective of the height of the soldier, all end the same distance above the ground! Certainly neatens things up! VERY British!
The guard dismounting are the Irish Guards (blue plume) marching behind the band of the Scots Guards (no plume) the guard mounting are the Coldstream Guards (red plume) the St James’s palace contingent march behind the Pipes & Drums of the Irish Guards… phew! I did wonder why the Irish Guards don’t wear a green plume more in keeping with other Irish regiments, passed & present but then found this.. On formation they chose the colour of the mantle and sash of the Order of St Patrick. Grenadier Guards - White. Welsh Guards - Green & White. Everyday a school day 👊
Coming from an American with rich Scottish & English Ancestry, I LOVE IT! I wouldn't mind if y'all came to Havana, Florida and temporarily kidnap me! LOL
You can tell the Irish Guards pipers because they have green jackets and berets and plain kilts and they have the Irish harp emblem. Irish bagpipes are different from Scottish bagpipes. Scots Guards pipers have tartan kilts.
Almost... the bagpipes are the great Highland bagpipes with three drones. The Irish bagpipes had only two drones, but these were discontinued within the British Army many years ago.
