You are talking about trichinosis, which has pretty much been eliminated in the US because almost all pork now comes from commercial farms like this one where the pigs are fed a commercial diet instead of being "slopped" and fed garbage of various sorts as was previously done on small private farms. There are very few cases a year that trace back to pork. The majority of cases trace to eating improperly cooked wild game. There are over 10K cases a year WORLDWIDE but only a few dozen cases per year in the US, mostly due to eating various wild game meats.
