I loved watching both Isabel and you Joseph. Benji stride is so big and fast so it was particularly helpful to see how much you did not try and interfere with that or slow him down. Thank you for sharing. This is how I learn too!
Please do more of these! I loved the training videos you used to do about 4 years ago. I find them very helpful for my training. I also have a 4 year old Benicio, they are awesome!

Hi Joseph, I loved this video especially because you didn’t edit the not so good parts, often we see the higher level riders doing you tube videos and everything is picture perfect. I find this sometimes disheartening as I think I might as well give up ! So it’s wonderful to see the goof with the little moments of not so perfect attached and how you ride through it, and to see we all have those moments. I also love the concept of this video watching Isabel and then you talking us through your riding. Well done!
Loved this video! I have a young dressage horse, so I totally relate to your ride with Benji. I enjoyed watching how you were able to stay in the motion with him and not resist him when he was resisting you - I need more of that in my riding. Please keep making these analysis videos, they're insanely helpful!!
When your head comes up your shoulders back! you are at a better upper body stance !! I had a lesson and got told off for that !! You have confirmed my thought I have not had a lesson from that instructor since !!! We Were Right all Along !!! Thanks for that !!!
Great video. So much can be gained from observing and listening to others. It is nicer to see a horse and the full training video not just the perfect bits.
That was really interesting for me. Particularly the change in the horse's balance when you remembered to sit more upright. Thank you, it is very honest of you to show the less good bits as well but it makes a point very well.

I say this because I rode and trained a horse in the Phillipine s that did this. He and I learned quickly to correct this, but he was an older horse. JB was magnificent when we were together as a team.
Thank you for your video and perspective. I personally had a bad day with my horse cause he was so strong and bracing on one side and I felt so undeserving to ride a horse as a rider. But I’ll take some of your comments and ideas to try again tomorrow. Hope you keep making these videos:)
This was gold on several levels Joseph and exactly what my mare and I needed! I am a short woman with long thighs, short lower legs and a short torso. Who would you suggest that I study? Isabel is probably the closest body type for me except for that leg ratio. More of these kinds of insights please! :) Love!!!
My daughter has the same ratios that you do. I would be very interested to know what rider in the upper ranks of the dressage world is closest to her and you.
I heard that Isabell Werth uses Rollkur in her training. Does anyone know whether or not this true? I find it hard to believe, but strange things are happening in dressage now and it's hard to know the truth.
‘Don’t panic, just keep working when my horse doesn’t respond with throughness right away. ‘Great advice. Thanks. I so appreciate you mentioning your bad habit of looking down. Horse Brain Human Brain has a chapter on the proprioceptive training we can do on ourselves. You are tall and probably usually are looking down to connect with people because others are shorter than you. So that head tipped forward, listening, is probably your default position. So your body tips head forward to listen to your horse. Too bad that car alarm that sounds when the driver’s head nods down to sleep is not available for equestrians!😂
She was Eliminated recently under blood rules, I'd love to hear your opinion on this relating to her and others. I have seen some horses spurred repeatedly with very harsh bits. It's so dissapointing that not all riders treat their horses kindly as you do.
The way Isabell is riding is far away from classical dressage. It is highly abusive. So sad she rides that way even in public and as result people are copying 😞
