We live in a fantastically picturesque - but very inconvenient - hilltop town about 20 minutes from Marsciano. Marsciano is not the prettiest town in Umbria by any means, but we drive down the hill to go there almost every day. It is super convenient (full of supermarkets and big box stores), down to earth, has a reasonably cute historic center, and one absolutely great restaurant - Osteria la Mattta (with 3 ts). The Osteria is highly recommended!!!

@wanderingwithwine Our experience - you'll be fine in restaurants, hotels, etc. But aside from businesses with a significant foreign clientele, you won't find a lot of English spoken in the smaller towns in Umbria. Nonetheless, you CAN survive most of the tasks and challenges of day-to-day life. For example, you don't need much (or any) Italian to go grocery shopping, fill up your gas tank, drop off your dry cleaning, etc. If you have a plumbing emergency (and you will), your non-English-speaking plumber probably understands a fair number of English plumbing-related words in context. In most daily situations, you'll be able to communicate with bits of shared vocabulary, charades, and language apps. But you'll want to develop some basic Italian conversation skills so that you can socialize. Those come relatively quickly once you're immersed. In any event, Italians are extremely kind and patient with foreigners who are still learning (and slaughtering) Italian. They really appreciate the effort!

So, it sounds like plumbing is an issue 😆 “Charades” made us laugh out loud, and being Italian, we already speak with our hands🤣 Love that the locals appreciate the effort regardless of how horribly some may mess us the language. I have to agree with your assessment of Florence. I love it. All future trips to Italy will have to include some time there. We have been there twice and can't wait for another trip back. The pictures of this town do put me in mind of Florence however just not quite the same without having actually visited here. The house looks awesome , hope something like this is available several years from now when I do retire. Until then I'll just be dreaming with wine. lol

Beautiful Home . most of the Bars are actually Coffee Houses . Although Italians Love their wines , it's considered bad form "Brutta Figura" , to be inebriated in Public . Italians are into Etiquette and Manners or "Galateo". "fare la Bella Figura" . great video , thanks again .

People here in the Netherlands tell me , that can NOT BE !! Her you can buy a big garage fot that price in a big City but not a house ... a very simpel apartment is not for under 100.000,- .a house like this €800.000 at least. Beautiful.

Indeed. Real estate in Italy is really interesting for us 'foreigners', though we do have a place about 15 min. from Marsciano. Still always compelling to see what is on the market there.
