The part that sounds like "church prayer" is a prayer from the sheeps point of view. "The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want He makes me down to lie Through pastures green he leadeth me the silent waters by With bright knives he releaseth my soul He maketh me to hang on hooks in high places He converteth me to lamb cutlets For lo, he hath great power and great hunger When cometh the day we lowly ones Through quiet reflection and great dedication Master the art of karate Lo, we shall rise up And then we'll make the bugger's eyes water." So the "long note" you're hearing is actually Roger's vocals fading out and being blended with Rick on the synthesizer. It's perfectly mixed so you can't tell where his voice ends and the synth begins.

Roger Waters was inspired by George Orwell's book "Animal Farm", while recording the "Animals" album. At the end of this song Roger Waters is basically saying all human beings are essentially the same. Power corrupts. Notice how the sheep had an uprising and killed the dogs. They thought themselves became the new dogs and began to abuse the weaker.

Another awesome experience we had was to head to Central Park and the Hayden Planetarium for shows like Floyd, Zeppelin amongst others but especially for these shows we would drop some mesc/lsd and travel the astral plane having the time of our lives 🤙🏽 thanks for drumming up some memories that deft time and space ❤️

I've seen Pink Floyd four times in three different decades and the most mind-blowing concert was the one in 1977 called the In the flesh tour!! They played all of Animals took a short break and then played all of Wish You Were Here and then came out and played half of Dark Side of The Moon for their encore with the original four members!!! I saw at least two dozen people having to be hauled out from passing out or freaking out because of the intensity of the visuals the lights and the music!! That concert is one of about 100 I've seen in my life and the most amazing one I've seen and the only one where my wife and I drove all the way home and didn't say a word!!! Some of the people that were hauled out were freaking out because they had taken acid and we're not ready for what was about to happen!!

Me too! Saw them 4 times, 75, 77, 87 & 94. First time Dark Side & Echoes for the Encore! 2nd Time all of Animals and Wish You Were Here. Gilmour on 🔥 on a Fender Telecaster for Animals. 3rd Time with Gilmour led Floyd doing greatest hits after Momentary Lapse of Reason, 4th Time, Pulse tour. Gilmour twice solo in the 80s and Roger 4 times solo including The Wall. My Pink Floyd experience never stops, those memories will last forever.

@jonhenke... Me too where did you see them? I saw them in Cleveland . June 25th '77. The giant pig; the flock of sheep floating down over the crowd; opening the show with their private jet flying sooooo low over the stadium that the fined-big time for that. I heard they were banned from playing in Cleveland for a few years for that one. It was reported that there was 97000 tickets sold for the concert...the old Cleveland Municipal stadium seated 83000 ( 88000 with standing room ) but the whole field was filled with fans. Saw people falling down when used the surround sound around the top of the stadium ( I'm pretty sure they chemically enhanced... we were!

@@gregorysimmers I was really lucky!! Saw them at the madhouse on McDowell where the Phoenix Suns used to play in February of 1977. It was a sold-out crowd of 12,000 and was indoors in a smaller place so it was really up close and the whole crowd was absolutely silent and mesmerized!! Saw them in 74 for the Dark Side of the Moon tour, in 87 for the momentary lapse of reason tour and of course the 94 Pulse concert at ASU's Sun devil stadium! But that 77 show being indoors there was so much pot being smoked that it was almost like another effect with the haze in the air!! The sound was like we were inside a giant set of headphones it was so perfect!! Anyway I went in sober and I came out wanting to go through a drive-thru and getting a bucket full of hamburgers and tacos!! Still the best concert of all the concerts I've been to!!!!

When I saw Floyd during the Momentary Lapse of Reason tour at the massive (old) Wembley stadium, the sound of the animals was being played on their quadrophonic sound system, fading louder until they came on stage to perform at the start of the show. The "prayer" you hear is Roger Waters' twisted version of the Lord's Prayer. Very dark. Sheep makes me visualize their music so perfectly... First all sheep live their peaceful life, but the bass comes up slowly, like there is something bad about to happen, but as the bass is still quiet, it doesn't bother them. Then the sound explosion is like that something bad actually happened, for many of them "suddenly", but... if they only dare to hear the warning... Then there is a slaughterhouse part, like they failed to defend. There is a brain washing moment after which they are all threatened, aggressive music turns into this perfect guitar riffs that fades away and "the peace" comes back and it is all going back to where it all started. The sheep will be sheep forever! This song has such a great connection of the meaning, background theme, sounds, music and lyrics, like it's a real movie!

Usually you just want to lose yourself in a Pink Floyd song. For this album, pulling up the lyrics is helpful as well. Dogs is probably my favorite, but all three of the major songs on this album are great. Dogs is very Gilmour heavy as he doesn’t sing on the others, and his guitar work on Dogs is among his best. They actually were working on these songs and performing them shortly after Dark Side of the Moon but they didn’t record them for the next album (Wish You Were Here). They took the time to let the songs germinate until they got them just right. Most musicians don’t take the time to do that. Respectful to their craft was a great way to put it.

Yes, good point, you can hear early version of the songs that ended up on both Wish You Were Hear and Animals in the first set at Boston Garden 1975. @@vicprovost2561 I've heard the audio of those shows, originally via bootlegs and then more recently on the Immersion sets. Gotta say I'm a little bit jealous you got to hear it live. In later years, you would never hear a song before it was put on record. A few minor exceptions of course, David did Smile and probably a couple of others live first, but as a band, that of like 1970-1975 they performed many tracks live before they committed it to record. Which is why when they finally cut them in the studio, they were complete perfection

I can't see you having reacted to Radiohead yet and whilst there will be only ever be one Pink Floyd Radiohead are a band to experience and Thom Yorke's voice is one of a kind. Most people start off with "Creep" which they saw as a millstone or "Paranoid Android" which can be an assault on the senses so I would recommend "Karma Police" as an introduction to their early sound or the atmospheric "Street Spirit (Fade out) " for Thom at his very best

I am an hardened Pink floyd fan from the 60s 70s and I love the reviews from Stacy the excitment the antisipation and the suprise in her expressions is so exhilarating to see as she discovers Pink Floyd music a band ahead of its time as she says and have not yet been matched for there inventivness in music. I love also that Stacy can appreciate the complexity of Pink Floyd music too and does not rush

Stacey gets Pink Floyd the very first time she hears a song, I’m impressed, it took me some time to get into some Floyd songs during the ‘80s, and she gets it right away, wow, more people like Stacey please 😊

I had this on 8-track tape when it came out. Fantastic album, I love "pigs on the wing" (parts 1 & 2). They launched the giant pig balloon over that factory as a promo for the record.

Hi Stacey, Sheep is one of my fav PF song and Animal is my fav PF album. I aleays felt this song brings you to a time travel journey, first part is the past, middle part present and then straight to the future into space travelling. Amazing actual almost 50 years after it has been composed. I love your PF reactions.

Yes the long notes are run through the the synthesizer of Richard Wright. The words you couldn't quite hear are the Christian prayer that starts with "The Lord is my Shepard, I shall not want.........". I've said it before that i smile and get such a warm feeling watching and listening to you react to my favorite band of all time. You get Pink Floyd and this PF family is unique.❤

In 1977, a couple of years after I graduated high school, someone, most likely a student at that school, painted the entire lyrics of "Sheep" on one of the outer walls of the school. It covered two floors, I was most impressed.

I remember when I bought this album in 1978 and listening to it several times while reading the lyrics to get the story. IIRC it was about the time in 10th grade when we read and studied Animal Farm in English class. The two go together so well. It was so much like when I was in 9th grade reading Edgar Allan Poe and being introduced to The Alan Parsons Project first album Tales Of Mystery And Imagination. I already knew Dark Side Of The Moon and Wish You Were Here. Once you listen to Animals in it's entirety you realize the darkness of it.

I was like 10 when this came out, also was into Wish and Darkside from my older bro… I loved it but I remember my bro’s best friend hated it because it was dark and cynical compared to the earlier works. They were all contributing equally to the music so it was a brilliant recording and delivery

Animals is and always will be (at least for me) the best album ever made - that's Prog Punk. I discovered it with 17 (nearly 40 years ago) and even then people told me: wow, so young and already listen to Pink Floyd, discover good music early! I am so happy to see youngsters nowaday discovering the "big three" Beatles, Floyd, and Zep - and more.

You will LOVE the 3rd big song of the album. Pigs (Three different ones) The baseline is something. Also, in Pigs, you will hear Whitehouse. It refers to someone rather than the actual US White House. You should know that they recorded this song in late 1976 and that they've been playing version of this song called Raving and Drooling for nearly 3 years on their live shows even before they made Wish You Were Here.. So this a song that has been tested and worked a lot before they record it. Same goes for Dogs which was named You Gotta be Crazy which they also been played for years before it's been record.

I saw Pink Floyd Animal Tour live in Tampa Stadium, Tampa, Fl. They had speakers on all four side, A big pig over the stage and they also had the largest chrome ball bearing hanging over the stage, but I think that was at the stadium for some other reason! On the ticket it said " An Evening of Sight and Sound with Pink Floyd". 😁😎

Ah, we're getting into the tracks that don't / didn't get played on the radio so much, this is my stuff right here. I say it so often, it's true here too...this groove is filthy. You seem to understand the dynamic of the intro/outro in terms of these albums except that I would add that they are also often integral to the outro/intro of the last/next song. I believe this album calls on the Great Book Animal Farm for its subject matter. If Any reader of this post has not read this masterpiece I would recommend you to remedy that situation as soon as practical. Not to bang on and on about the continuity, but you will understand it completely when you start having whole albums for your souls supper. Cheers sister, had a great time Saturday in your Twitch chat. Balaron.
