Some simply fantastic images here Richard. I particularly love the ones that include the huge, natural rock formations, they give a sort of primeval feeling of our place in the galaxy and universe. Thanks for sharing these wonders..
Another superb video, and what amazing countryside you have in the Grampians. I'm very envious. as always, another set of cracking images. Very inspiring and very motivating. Thank you!!
What a fantastic adventure, RIchard. Such an abundance of beautiful images and clearly a great time had by all. Love the Astro-shed with the fire pit, open fire, beer and sausages - wish all that came as standard! 🤣🤣 Thanks for sharing. 👍
Wonderful! This time you've outdone yourself. Congratulations for having the great luck to be able to enjoy such wonderful skies. And thanks for sharing it with us! Your videos make me want to go out and do night photography again. Thanks again.
What a pleasure to watch your wonderfull pictures!! I am always looking forward to Friday nights, when you publish your latest videos. Thanks for sharing them and let so many people be inspired! Cheers from Germany😊
Superbe reportage sous la voie lactée tu as de très grands espaces chez toi ici en France c'est beaucoup plus restreint merci de partager tes aventures nocturnes bon ciel et bonnes photos !
Hi Richard, I love the Grampians too and enjoy shooting landscapes. You've inspired me to stay the night and get out to see the stars. Your video has also got me thinking about the Viltrox 16mm f1.8 for my Z8. Thanks
Thanks so much for watching my friend. I am enjoying the Viltrox 16. I think it compliments the Nikon 20mm quite well for that little bit wider field of view and native Z lens mount.
Glorious adventure again Richard. Interesting storytelling mode you chose for this video. It works! The video scenes alone already tell the story by itself almost. Well done! Also, love the results you are getting from the Viltrox 16mm. Beginning to get tempting to save some money and add that lens to the collection 😁👌
Richard, as always, watching your videos inspire me to get out and shoot the night sky. I did notice one thing in this video. Seems like the 20mm 1.8 z is starting to gather some dust. :-)
Haha, lots of people have mentioned that Mark. It's just that I had the 16mm on my astro moded camera and the 20mm on my standard camera. .so it's obvious I used the astro moded camera the most. The Z20mm f1.8 is still king.
Great video and great Nightscape images as usual Richard 👏🏻 Next month I’m heading down to Victoria on a four week road trip from Queensland and hope to get some great shots myself. I’m not actually heading to the Grampians on this trip as I won’t have enough time, I’m heading to Wilsons Prom and the Great Ocean Road mostly. I Look forward to your next adventure 👍🏻
Hi Richard, kudos to you for the amazing images you capture and the effort you put into your videos. As an enthusiast with a (soon to be astro modified) Z6Ii plus a brand new Z6III, just wondering if you have ever considered doing a video to run through the workflow for editing Milky Way photos from an astro-modified camera. In particular how to make the reds 'pop' versus the standard camera configuration. Your techniques have proven invaluable. Keep up the great work.
Thanks so much for your kind words of encouragement Marcus. Did you see this video. I used an astro mod camera for this shoot. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-a1XyA7I4W3w.html This one also has comparisons between the 2 cameras. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-TDKdbr3Bk1g.html
Thanks Jason. The a refers to the fact that my camera has an astro modification to help it see more of the reds and pinks in nebulas. Yes I love dead trees.
Hi mate, it's been a while, you will remember me as Roy, I just realised that I was no longer subscribed. Seems that RU-vid are still unsubscribing people without a reason. Anyway found you again. Great work as usual, and quite a bit to catch up on too.
Does look like great fun! Also, looking forward to another one of your post processing videos. Proposition for you - fly out to California, LAX, and I will take you to some outstanding locations to include Mono Lake, Joshua Tree, Alabama Hills (yes, still California) and Death Valley. I'm going out to Mammoth Lakes area August 11-14 for Perseid's meteor shower.
Richard, absolutely amazing photos!! 🤩 Beautiful video, Astro Photography ASMR 😊! Have you changed your editing process? The nebulae pop and almost 3d like. Would be really appreciated if possible to share?😊 Also do you reckon Viltrox 16mm 1.8 at 2.8 is better than Nikon 14-24 2.8 at 14mm at 2.8, for Milky Way? Like the stars in corners, etc?
Thanks so much for your comments. No I haven't really changed my editing for a couple of years. I did include a mixture of stacked, tracked and various panoramas in this video though. The Viltrox is very sharp at f2.8 .. but so is the Z14-24 at f2.8 .. .both excellent lenses, but of course the Viltrox is much less expensive.
Richard, you mention multiple foreground shots in many of these images. For example, the last image lists 9 foreground shots. I assume that is for focus stacking?
No, when I do multiple light painted shots they are all focused at the same point. .in fact they are all focused to infinity. Due to the fact that it's at f8 everything is in focus with the 16mm lens. The multiple images are simply lit from different angles and then I blend the one's I want to use in editing later. I have many videos on this technique. See here: ru-vid.com/group/PLAYKmqkUeSM_ovfT8k7ifk26X4zjeqJWb
Would you please make a video explaining the process from A to Z how did you take photos for the foreground (with there own setting explaining why those settings) and others for the Milky Way, and the editing process including how you stack those photos in photoshop ?? Many thanks in advance
I already have many videos showing this process. See here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-3uXHTmwcaFM.html Or here: ru-vid.com/group/PLAYKmqkUeSM_ovfT8k7ifk26X4zjeqJWb
thanks Richard, your skill is top of the world. Wish you live in Qld. it seems you use the Viltrox 16mm f/1.8 more often than the Z20mm f/1.8. you know when using Z lens, it automatic focus to infinity when switch on the camera, would the Viltrox 16mm f/1.8 doing the same when switch on the camera or you will have to manually focus to the star or turn the focus ring to infinity? Because i found it is difficult for me to focus on star manually through the LCD screen due to just start using multi focal glasses, so hard to see small screen with and without glasses 😅. if the Viltrox 16mm f/1.8 can autofocus to infinity like z lens, I will consider to buy this lens. thank you in advance.
@@nightscapeimages.richard I’m looking for a very wide lens to put on my Z8. I have watched a lot of videos about this lens and its competition. I’ve noticed that this lens has pretty poor star rendition at the edge of the frame, with lots of astigmatism and coma. Something the new Sigma 14/1.4 (sadly only for Sony and Leica atm) does not have. At all. That lens’s image quality is undeniably the best in the Milky Way photography space (pun intended). Since nothing is free in life, the Sigma is about 3 times the cost and 4 times the size of the Viltrox. I don’t mind size and I’m willing to “invest” (euphemism for “spend” if you want to give it a more aristocratic vibe) the money. I just wish it were natively compatible with Nikon Z bodies, as good adaptors set you back another 250USD. I was wondering whether you noticed the optical defects of the Viltrox and how do you get rid of them when doing panos? Also, have you considered the Sigma? If so, why did you decide to go with the Viltrox? If not, why not? Thank you, and keep producing those amazing images! One last thing: if you want to not be bothered by mosquitoes, use a DEET spray. They are very effective and last a long time. I would know, I’m a mosquito magnet on legs. I’ve used those sprays in Zanzibar many times, the one I went for is Off’s Deep Woods, but I guess any one with DEET would do Just be careful with anything plastic when you spray it on, as it corrodes flip-flops’ and similar materials. I guess just washing your hands before handling anything else should be enough. It has been for me for years
