I journeyed to Sangkhla Buri, near the Thai/Myanmar border to see the famous Mon Bridge. It's official name is Uttamanusorn Bridge. The original bridge was constructed between 1986-7. It is thought to be the longest wooden bridge in Thailand, and second longest in the world, next to U Bein bridge in Myanmar. It was built as a sign of friendship between the Thai people on one side and the Mon people on the other. Unfortunately on 28 July 2014 part of the bridge was swept away in a flash flood. After much delay, the reconstruction was completed on 4th October, and officially reopened to the public on 18 October, in front of 3,000 people.
