It's my very first time seeing railroad track maintenance cars working on track! Absolutely amazing watching the precision built into these cars! I've often wondered how they actually replaced ties and spikes and dealt with the roadbed gravel? I was mesmerised watching them all work together in unison! Very cool 😎 👌 😊❤

As you all know, I love block signals that drop...and today was no exception, thank you. However, your tribute on the locomotive from UP was really classy. And then (drum role), I really was fascinated with the MOW in Whitchta, KS. THAT was so interesting and then the distant shot of all the machines rounding the bend in the background was priceless. I think I will rewind that again!!!

Watching the maintenance equipment was fascinating. Some of the ties they left in the track were pretty rotted out in my opinion. And some of the ties removed actually looked pretty good.

They go into bigger piles and sit for ages. To dispose of them in the landfill they have a manifest for non hazardous waste ? That makes no sense to me I’ve hauled a lot of them and they just get buried with the rest of the trash. Not far from me vandals set a big pile on fire by the NS tracks years ago . They can’t be used for much because the old ones pressure treated with creosote are haz mat. I had a job site in Louisville by the river off bells lane that was a tie plant for the old L&N and that whole place is off limits they dug a hole for us to wash out concrete mixers and it stunk of creosote ! And it had been shut down for over 50 years. It’s nasty stuff .

0:08 CSX 1836 0:32 two Amtraks enter Springfield station. One could easily be pulled by one loco, and the other should be a DMU 1:00 UP 6748 with metal plaque leading 1:51 private cars over Horseshoe Curve (again at 5:50) 3:50 Patriot Rail loco 4:44 ex-BNSF dash 9 now owned by NS 4:57 tarp caught in a tanker 5:07 double Cascades train! Lead unit is a P42, all cars are Horizons, middle cabbage is in Cascades livery, 2nd unit is an SC44, and the rear cabbage is in phase V 6:26 NS, CSX YN2, and KCSM gray triple-header. Conductor also tossed something to the two filming the train 7:04 H1 and warbonnet dash 9 doubleheader, another warbonnet dash 9 is DPU 2:30 MRL SD70ACe on a coal train 8:02 baretable intermodal cars, and a flatbed carrying a wrecked one 9:30 blue car didn't know how to stop 10:30 8-unit lash-up including a BBF unit and KCSM gray 11:13 hi-rail truck races an intermodal 12:34 wow, a Superliner at the end of an autorack train! Probably the closest thing to an Auto Train Skykomish will ever see 12:46 warbonnets and CEFX blue units trailing 17:35 closeup spike removal followed by the old ties being pushed out, slid out further by another machine, collected by cranes, and replaced with new ones which are then tamped and spiked. Ballast is then graded and tamped again 25:28 ties that are collected by these cranes are then loaded in a hi-rail truck. This tie replacement sequence could've been its own video.

I have sort of mixed feelings about seeing those Wabash and Pennsylvania heritage units being relegated to DPU service. It is kind of a bonus catch when you see them later in the consist, but it feels like they should be up front, flying the fallen flags proudly.

The old Theory one thing leads to another when looking at those pressurized cars. The name of the firm on the white car went from Pennick & Ford to Pennwest and then Penford Products. The NLSX car you pointed out stands for National Starch Co which later became part of ICI Industrial Chemicals. The only car missing was a ÇCLX car which stood for CPC International \ Corn Products Corp are their Freight cars were yellow and black. Mergers and buyouts has now wiped out all those names as separate entities but their reporting marks live on as the companies are now part of the Ingredion family. Someone asked me about some of these firms in the last year and now the rest of the story is no longer a mystery
