As a former ride op who prided himself in throughput, I love when hardworking crews get the recognition they deserve.

I rode Nitro, El Toro, and Bizarro each a few times during a quick visit in the early morning this week. No lines. Nitro is still my favorite ride at the park after so many years, and the ride ops are indeed awesome.

Oml these operations are insane! Please do more of these. As a ride op at Behemoth im jealous Nitro crew is able to cycle that many trains an hour. Unfortunately the CF B&M hypers have seatbelts so we try to get 33 trains an hour which is tough with seatbelts as well as loose article binz. We managed to hit 40 cycles once this year and on the last day we hit 39! Without seatbelts Behemoth used to be able to operate like Nitro. The highest ever was 49 cycles an hour in 2008 when it opened. Can’t believe Nitro would dispatch as soon as the train drops off the lift! Insane!!!! So cool to see!!!

49 is the best you can do on nitro with 3 trains. This year im working nitro and we've been hitting 45 a lot recently. We are trying to beat the record of 52 which we have a pretty fast crew so we can definitely do it this year. (hopefully)

Those are some legit legendary dispatches! I wish Magic Mountain and Knott's could get with the program like this. In fact besides Twisted Colossus I can't think of a single ride with 3 train ops at SFMM. They all seem to have their third trains stripped down for refurb. Mad props to this crew! The best ops I've ever seen in my life were at Kings Island this past Saturday (10/05/19) but this crew at GAdv were killing it in this video!

Nitro has always been my fav coaster in the park, this year's been no different. So far I haven't seen nitro down anytime I've come out, and it's always running all three trains with a less then 10 minute wait consistently. Anytime I'm in the park I always recommend it, it's a long, fantastic coaster.
@KingdaToro
@KingdaToro 5 лет назад
Nitro's designed so you can dispatch another train as soon as the previous one clears the lift. That's how you hit capacity. The best way to measure the quality of operations is to listen to the lift motor. As soon as you hear it slow down, start counting, and stop when the train in the station begins to move. Less than 5 seconds is fantastic, 5-10 is great, 10-15 is good, 15-20 is OK. The other way you can tell when the operations are fantastic is when the trains don't stop at all on the last brake block before the station.

This is the only ride crew that could rival Europa Park's legendary fast operations. Silver Star runs like this all season long, regardless of how crowded the park is. I have never seen Silver Star run less than 3 trains and they hardly ever stack them on the final brake run, and they also only have two checkers. Big kudos to this year's Nitro crew: as a former ride operator obsessed with throughputs, hats off to you guys! I really hope you get those 2 million riders ;-) More parks should show good examples of good operations like this video during staff training.

Nitro’s crew though! That’s impressive for only 2 attendants. I was at SFOG last Sunday for Fright Fest and Goliath’s crew was hustling as well. Granted they had 4 attendants checking seats but they were pumping out trains like crazy. I counted only once where a train was still in the station when the other train hit the brakes. With Goliath having a shorter ride time and no MCBR, Its not easy getting the trains out at that speed - especially considering the GP who think they can lounge in the station after they get off the ride.

I was at KI yesterday and they were absolutely killing it on Diamondback. I got in four rides, and I don't think I ever saw a train hit the final brakes without another already cresting the lift hill. I will admit that isn't the norm, though. This is pretty amazing to see in action, though. Especially with that level of consistency.

Usually very good, yeah. Though in my experience Diamondback doesn't tend to hit its dispatch until around when the previous train hits the ending helix. Not bad, obviously, but probably not hitting the theoretical maximum like Nitro is doing in this video. What I appreciate most about KI though is how they always seem to be moving as fast as they can, even when there isn't a big line. I'd take that kind of consistency over occasional perfection any day.

As someone who used to do Safari there, all we ever hear about was Nitros impressive numbers. I believe it was the 2015 season, and even on what was statistically a down year we only ever beat them on hourly put through for a single hour like twice all season. And Safari used to pump out fast, with 20 trucks of 32 person capacity on a 40 minute tour. The numbers nitro pulled blew me away.

@warallthetime Yeah I thought you might have. Even considering that, the way Ryan is doing it, with the 5 cycles, is more thorough than I've seen elsewhere. 2,000,000 riders is impressive. I love Nitro. It gets a bad rap by some enthusiasts and I can for the life of me understand. I rode it 4x more this year just to see what the hell everyone was complaining about. lol They are wrong IMO. Great first drop. Great air time with the midcourse ejector in the back being fantastic.

@warallthetime SFGA was my home park until 2006. Then it was Universal Orlando and now its Kings Dominion/ Busch Gardens Williamsburg. I chose BGW as the park to get a season pass though. Much better place overall other than I305 and Twisted Timbers. I went to SFGA at least every year and rode coasters like Rolling Thunder, The Ultra Twister and Viper. El Toro is the best coaster we've ever had there, but Nitro is as good as any other B&M hyper out there. I'm now partial to Apollo's Chariot but Nitro is just awesome. Looking forward to Jersey Devil and Pantheon at my new home park. It's gonna be a greta year!!! hahaha Good stuff dude.

I’m pretty sure now that operation videos have come out some parks have been shifting their practices to get faster times. Not sacrificing safety, but doing it faster. I was there last Saturday and they were dispatching trains like clockwork, every time I rode as the train hit the bottom of the lift you could see the train on the course go over that second hill. Then right before you hit the brakes you could see the next train creeping over the top of the lift. Top crew out there, last year too.

Great video -- would love to see others. I'm not surprised that Nitro is meeting the Theoretical Capacity of 1656 (46 x 36) since they have good ride ops and no seat-belts. I would guess B&M was using whole numbers since you can't send 0.154 of a train. Awesome that the actual value was able to hit the theoretical value (I doubt many other coasters can say this). Give those 2 ride ops a bonus check!!

Hot damn only two restraint checkers? Must be some very cooperative guests and some good speiling to make sure guests know what they're doing and do it quickly. Does nitro have bins? If so that's impressive as hell getting riders to put stuff in bins and back in those seats that fast. I would actually love to file a guest compliment so the ops know they're doing great if I was there to witness it. Does nitro have seatbelts?
@spentron1
@spentron1 5 лет назад
Yeah the biggest slowdown is usually newbie riders. They must be filtering out the kids too short to ride. I so often see at parks they have to measure a kid for height, then someone's too big to ride, and then someone has a loose article still on them that has to be put away, and your 70-90 seconds turns into 3-5 minutes ... and then next train's the same! Nitro doesn't have bins, although I recall drink holders and a bench I left my jacket on once or twice.

Thanks A LOT for this proper Operations video just like it should be done. I was getting tired of people doing totally wrong/unusable Operations check videos. (No Offence to Coaster Studios, he does amazing contents, but his operations videos aren't really telling/showing anything most of the time because they aren't done correctly at all...). And obviously Nitro don't suffer from seatbelt meme (like most rides in the US do...), so you can't really compare it with Diamondstack that does. Also Nitro don't have hydraulic restrains, it's the good ol Click ones, so there is no resistance in pushing them down and so basicaly the Nitro crew just ask people to hand up and push the lap bars 2 by 2 passing each row real quick and you are done. (Not saying it's easy to be that fast, they do amazing jobs, but there is comparaisons that can't be done sometimes because some restrain systems WILL make the loading/unloading much slower even with the best crew ever).

With operations like this, normally no more than 15-20 minutes. If the switchbacks are full, which typically only happens during Fright Fest when the park is near capacity, 40-45 minutes.

i was on a train once and they dispatched in like 15 seconds i didn’t feel safe at all going up the lift hill

This is more efficient than cedar point three train ops. I’ve watched the webcams and there’s constant double stacking on valravn and raptor, all the time. Pretty pathetic compared to what’s shown here

And Nitro is doing this with only 2 attendants checking the entire train!

ElToroRyan Right! Most multiple train coasters have at minimum 2 ops on each side checking

The big difference here is station hardware. Anything that has to move out of the way before the train can move, and move back into place before the next one can unload, slows things down by a lot. Floorless coasters, floorless dive coasters, and flying coasters will always have bad dispatch times because of this. Inverted coasters too, but to a lesser extent. Nitro also has the simplest restraints, only one thing to check on each seat. In fact, the coaster with the best dispatch times I've ever seen is Phoenix. It runs PTC trains with buzz bars and no seatbelts, and the station doesn't have airgates. All the attendant needs to do is pull up on each bar. I've seen them dispatch it in 12 seconds, from when the train parks in the station until it dispatches. That's with single-train, with two they deliberately slow down since they have to wait for the other one to get back.

All them other coasters at six flags need to do extremely fast dispatches like nitro. Ride opts please take lesson!
@KingdaToro

It's simply not possible. Almost all the others have seatbelts to check, have a moving floor that eats into the dispatch time, or both. The only coaster in the whole park that can be checked faster than Nitro is Skull Mountain, with no seatbelts, no moving floor, and only one restraint per row. However, its trains only seat 28 compared to Nitro's 36. It can beat Nitro in dispatches per hour, but not in guest throughput.

Sooo many empty seats on those trains. Some have entire empty rows. Makes your math incorrect when there are 4-6 empty seats per train.
