For people that don't understand, to win $100,000 you have to wear that special orange shirt which was like $40, and you have to catch the ball cleanly one handed. So many people bought those shirts for $40 , if they sold 2,500 orange shirts, they make $100,000. So the company doing the promotion made money
They gave 1million away in total to nine people. so they would have to sell 25000 shirts over 5 years. 50k fits in eden park so im sure they made more then enough back. Alot of people watch cricket.
@@marathiboi96 Baseball is a hell of a lot more difficult, hence why successfully hitting 3 out of 10 times makes you one of the best in the sport. And why their salaries completely DWARF cricket in every single sense. You would never see cricketers with $20 to $50 million dollar salaries per year
@@a.w.b.9971 It's not about salaries, If that were the case Soccer (the real football) would be the best sport. American paydays are better than most of the world, That's why baseball players and American footballlers get paid more. You said it's about hitting 3 times out of 10 is difficult. Try thinking, Hitting each time and not missing, cause if you miss, You might get out cause of stumps, the ball varieties are there, spins, swings, Yorkers. Catches are more difficult cause no gloves except for keeper. Baseball is a good game but cricket is much harder cause it's harder to play and understand even
Imagine hits a six and then suddenly a fan come out of nowhere and catches it with one hand and goes all the attention to him, even the commentators 😅😅✌🏏❤
The 100thousand dollar catches are gone in NZ now as u were only eligible wearing orange t shirt with target on it but to many people were injured in stadiums so they moved it to a designated area on embankments if ground had them, but the allure of that kind of money combined with 3000 drunk guys all going for same ball caused fights and injuries so they stopped it
The 1st year they did this was CARNAGE. Lots of people got hurt chasing balls. 2nd time around you had to sitin a special marked out area. Great promotion.
It varies. But yes most of the time at International and premier club games. Sponsors put up a prize for one handed catches to try and draw in the crowds to the venues.
People making a big deal about them catching it bare handed. I think American fans would catch Home runs bare handed if we got paid like these lucky bastards.
American passing thru, is there some sort of advertisement promotion by the television company or the host team for catching the (uh oh dont say ball, its not a ball right?........) round thingy one handed?
Yes they do if a catch is taken someone who is part of the sponsor or the cricket ground will come get u immediately and get details etc, they dont hand over cash it goes into bank but yea it gets paid, New Zealanders are not just great at cricket we also great at carrying out our promises
America : racism, sexism, inequality, riots, police killings... Australia/New Zealand : catching a ball gets you 100,000 dollars. I love being from down south
I remember this. I think it was Tui beer who did the promotion (for 100k per catch), but once more catches were made than predicted it was scrapped. The new promoters who did it lowered it to 5k per catch
There have been incidents where kids have been hurt, most of the time it's because there's so many people trying to catch the ball they just don't see the kid, there's designated areas when these types of events happen
Is this how Australia is? I’m moving there from the US... good as time as any! Looks like you guys are having a great time. Baseballs not nearly as rowdy.
In the US, there is a stigma against wearing gloves in the crowd. Children are exempt, and encouraged to wear them. Seeing the kids run around in their jerseys and gloves is festive and fun. Seeing middle aged men do it is…gross.
@@rahowherox1177 thank you. As an American going to sporting events, its almost unheard of the give the ball back. Only sport that I can think of is the NBA
@@cistaro56 outside of USA, the ball is always given back (in any sport) ... but with cricket the condition of the ball is part of the game. The ball will be polished on 1 side only, and different techniques become available as ball ages.
