"When your world is gardening, you don't need an escape, that is the escape" I love this quote, so true! I started gardening 2 years ago, but growing up my family gardened and depended on our garden for food production. I really want to get back to that, to that self sufficiency.

@@adamynyrardd It was your name Adam that prompted my comment. It was actually the first ever Adams punishment to have to cultivate the ground and make his own food for survival.. And ironically here we are praising the fact that we can take part in the (punishment) cultivation of the ground ........as we were given the task to have dominion over the planet. Maybe its our way back to eden :-) Genesis....... cursed is the ground for thy sake; in sorrow shalt thou eat of it all the days of thy life; Gen 3:18 Thorns also and thistles shall it bring forth to thee; and thou shalt eat the herb of the field; Gen 3:19 In the sweat of thy face shalt thou eat bread, till thou return unto the ground; Before his punishment Adam needed to do nothing for nature did it all by itself. Blessings to you and a great coming season for you

Blessed are the chatty gardeners! I really like this guy. His reverence for his family learnings and the courage to learn new techniques just makes his garden so prolific. I would love to have quail, ducks and chickens but my wife is reluctant to lop their heads off and butcher them for the table. His flag and his Instagram account show respect for his origins and this video has really inspired me to put up an Aussie flag of my own in my own garden. Well done Adam from your new mate Down Under!

The chicken coop is not cleaned out often, he only gets the manure compost out once a year. And the quails get pine needles as bedding. He uses that in fresh form (some people advise to wait) the blueberries love that. - the Duck quad are slug eating machines, he has a Welsh breed that is very docile. They even love to eat brassica leaves etc - but they are good ducks and meander their way through the garden in seach of slugs. They do not damage the plants.

6:29 my second viewing. So I did not store away the gold nugget about the potatoes the first time. He grows them in 30 l buckets. The variety is blight resistant, is called Saro Mira, grows well in containers, and can be planted outside of the normal times. He just got some that he had planted 14 days before as young potatoes. In fall he removes the top of the plant, but leaves the potatoes in the soil in the container. They come into a shed and they keep well in the soil, he digs them out when he wants them.

The gentleman is so right "you have to garden within the environment you are in". So many folks like the looks of raised gardens or listen to folks on RU-vid extolling the wonders of raised beds and assume they think they are the best way to garden. They build them in areas where they are not a good idea at all. I'm in a dry area and water is not easy to come by. I watched a neighbour go to great trouble and expense building a lovely raised garden. I didn't say anything because young folks don't like listening to old farts. (Most naturally know better). In less than 3 years she had given up gardening because the garden dried out and died each year by august.

I enjoyed the tip about the Welsh ducks, I will add them to my list for future poultry. Blessings.

Thank you Adam and Huw for the practical advice on growing in a wetter, partially shaded area. A friend of mine is moving up to an area along a northern river in Wisconsin, where the soil is good humus rich silty sand, but the garden area is partially shaded by balsam fir and spruce trees. It's good to know what can be grown there, your garden is incredibly productive and beautiful! I will pass along your words of wisdom.🌱🌍 Coincidentally we have Richards here too! Cliff used to work for my dad as a carpenter when he was a young man, now he owns and operates a resort in Dunbar. A really good soul as well, always willing to help and very cheerful.🌞.

This is brilliant! Thanks for sharing!! And separate form gardening I’ve been learning Welsh for myself because I just think it’s a beautiful and fun language and it’s so so great hearing his thicker accent. That’s been the toughest bit, honestly. I can’t picture how the words are supposed to sound and the cadence. His vowel sounds and lilting and emphasis! So helpful. I hope that doesn’t sound weird haha. I don’t know anyone who speaks it, so all I have are strangers on video to listen to haha.

@@adamynyrardd Hello Adam, Ciamar a tha thu? Unfortunately I'm a "blow in" to this lovely island from northern Scotland (hence the Gaelic) but we still have the climate and culture in common! Until last year we lived about eighteen miles down the coast from Cape Wrath. About the only things I grew outdoors were cabbages and rhubarb! (gets a wee bit windy up there). Here, we bought a cottage over a hundred years old (I almost feel as auld myself sometimes) and an acre that'd been pasture for cows but laid empty for two decades. It was a mess of bramble, top to bottom, and marsh grass and though it's still very heavy clay we're slowly clearing it using billhooks, loppers and shears. Found out I couldn't dig the soil after trying and putting my back out, so we settled on some raised beds. The brambles keep trying to come back..I noticed if you leave even a tiny piece of root they will..so I just mercilessly run the lawnmower over them. We've seven raised beds and two no dig beds (not sure they'll work well on clay soil but giving them a go) and I'm just trying to decide what to plant where this year..last year the tatties got blight. Sorry! Blethered a fair bit there! Your lovely garden gives me goals, something to aim at. Thanks so much for your interest in our wee patch of Ireland (Co Leitrim) and for sharing your great vids. I'm just about to upload a vid from summer/autumn so if you ever get the chance, please feel free to watch and comment (and hae a giggle at what we're daein wrang!) Tapadh Leat gu dearbh!

Love that he mentioned TREES GROW!! In just four years, my backyard is almost completely shaded. I am forced ti grow in the front yard now. Consider trees when purchasing your house or trees. Also consider tree growth when installing garden beds and structures. Rhubarb, some herbs and greens will grow in partial shade, as well as raspberries and other berries. Deciduous trees allow for more sunlight in spring, especially my very late flowering Catalpa. TFS
