It’s amazing !!!! People having a conversation, laughing, Everybody’s looking at each other. No cell phones, no laptop. Now nobody looks at you they too busy, staring down at their cell phone, that’s what humanity has become.

Um….did you see the picture of the woman reading the newspaper? When I’m looking at my phone in public I’m reading one of many news papers or publications, that’s kind of how we do things now. It’s on my phone rather than a newspaper, so what?

@@sharonh2991 Except the woman isnt in a busy crosswalk or stopping at the top of the subway stairs while reading the newspaper. And shes aware of her surroundings and the fact that the world isnt just about her.

The music is very nice and goes with the video. Most videos are terrible about the music they have. Thank you very much.

Never been to NYC. But, if I had to pick a time it would be 50s, early 60s for Broadway and coffee shops and jazz.

I first visited New York in 1975 and even then it was dramatically different to today. Creative people could afford to live in Manhattan which made the place much more vibrant.

Fran Liebowitz agrees with you. She has also been critical of the large numbers of wealthy people in New York City, as she believes they do not create anything of value but only consume things. And raise prices.

I enjoyed the photo show and the snippets of everyday New Yorkers going about their business. In so many of these retrospectives of life during a different time, I do get tired of the commenters who only come on to whinge about how life was so much better in "their day". Just enjoy the show and keep your negativity out of it.

That scene that showed a streetcar was taken sometime until 1947 when the last streetcar line in Manhattan ended.

Thank you for sharing. There were problems then as well. It does look more family friendly than today’s NYC. I think gentrification did more harm than good. That’s just my opinion.

At 4:07 the bar scene, looks like Kevin James in the center of the screen! Maybe that’s the original King of Queens, haha

The picture of the guide taking a group of tourists on a walking tour is not 1956 because there is a 1959 Ford in the background.

Everything went to hell in the 15th Century. Before that there was no traffic, no smog and no Facebook. Then the 16th Century liberals took over. Next thing you know they’re inventing vaccines, masks, cars and internet porn. Now look at us! It’s all a mess.

Not if you were black in Tennessee trying to eat at a lunch counter or send your kids to a decent school. 1962 was a great year, 63 was even better, 64 was the best with LBJ signing the Civil Rights Act of 1964. If the 50s were so great, great for who? Not me! I remember them. The air is cleaner today, the food is better, the coffee is way better and if you’re a child onset diabetic, like me, well…I get to live now! How ‘bout that?
@Lpreilly72

There is a reason you don’t see blacks in time travel movies. Name ONE period that you would want to travel back to if you are black. I guarantee this. It won’t be the 20s-50s.
