This song was made for teenagers going through a rough patch in life and this project was with 1000 teenagers. This made me cry even before I knew about the meaning of the song
It is amazing. These are all high school seniors from around Japan. I just love this version. Have you heard Taka's cover of Adele's Hello? He's an amazing singer.
YES!!!!! Definitely an awesome song and i'm really happy that you actually reacted to it. Just a little of background, as far as i know, this festival was to celebrate that the minimum age to vote on japan was reduced from 21 to 18 years, giving a lot more participation to young people, and so for this version of the song OOR actually asked to fans in the nearby area to sent them a video explaining why they should participate and choose 1000 teenagers from there, which made the chorus in the background. And they choose this song for the big relation between the lyrics ant the situation that was the theme for the festival, truly a story about empowerment to all young people. From what I know, which I'm not saying is a 100% accurate, they "created" this festival yes to celebrate but mostly to say: hey you expect us to behave like full grown adults but treat us like children. I think the youth was/is really unhappy with what society is expecting of them and the change in the voting age finally triggered something by the teenagers. Again I could be wrong so please watch the videos of the making of the 18 fes. Everything gets explained there 😊

Listen to Mori Masako sing her songs and you will make the connection between the two. Mori Masako Sings some of the most emotional songs you ever heard. Mori Masako has two concerts in particular that Demonstrates this. Watch both concerts to the very end of the videos. Both concerts are in 1986 at the NHK theatre in Tokyo. They are 2 months apart. The last concert is Mori’s final goodbye concert. At 28 years old Mori gets married and retired for 20 years to raise a family. Mori has 3 Son’s. Two of her Son’s have their own bands. The other is the lead singer in his band “My Last Story”

It is all about changing the voting age (coming of age) in Japan from 20 to 18 yo. Juuhassai (18歳, 18 years old) has been changed to 18祭．Same phonetic reading, but the wordplay (or kanji play) means "18 festival". Thence the 18 Fes(tival) subtitle. If you follow the lyrics within this context, the whole act becomes absolutely insane, considering that all of the choir are 18 yo. Despite all the growing pains and inner demons, they are no more kids, but adults.
Since you like OOR a lot (for good reason, they are the best), Taka has a brother who also has a band called My First Story that I highly recommend for you to check out.

He does a fantastic job of it and gives a strong somber emotion from beginning to end. And also One OK rock has another song that is FANTASTIC live called Nobodys Home.
