This is “old school” veterinary stuff. This is exactly how we use to Flagyl snakes when I was a vet tech back in the 80’s and early 90’s. The vet I worked for was the only one within 5 counties that knew reptiles (unfortunately it’s still kind of like that) where I am in Florida. You’d think Florida would have tons of veterinarians that know reptiles but, nope. Exotics are rabbits and birds to most of them. Many of these old school techniques are still, by far, the best way to do it. Wow, this brings me back🐍🐍❤️

I find this very reassuring, my mum is a vet surgeon and I was really struggling to see why people were complaining about some of the procedures. Esp a simple aspiration! Everything was cleaned, disinfected, flushed out etc. And quick care, which is most important with reptiles

I find what you are doing to be facinating. I like it, when doing surgeries, you tell folks to work FIRST with a veterinarian or medicial person. It is clear your animals mean a lot to you. It's also clear you want to help other keepers. All in all, I prefer to watch your show over the animal collectors who go for drama with their charges. You do good, thanx!

Yeah, and its also telling how often vets from all around the area refer sick reptiles TO him. Like, work with a vet first....but if its like 99% of vets, who are really more mammal drs, not pet drs, they aren't gonna know what to do. Hell, doesn't Tufts still bring their vet classes to NERD to learn venomous handling?

If I had a sick reptile I would be so reassured that factual information is available on Kevin’s site. Your superb accumulated knowledge of anatomy and physiology is the key to understanding healing processes. I don’t have a snake but appreciate the in-depth treatment videos that you show. Personally, I love the medical vids... There's so few exotic vets out there, and it is so, so very helpful to have this information available for the keeper without those resources or the vast amount of experience y'all bring to the table... I would consider it straight up education and outreach. As for having problems in your collection, that's just a numbers game. Statistics alone are going to prove out in health issues popping up. In short, f*ck the haters, you're providing a valuable service to the community.

Nice. I've been trying to show my friends and family that snakes aren't anything to be afraid of. At least my snakes, obviously not telling them to go out handle a cobra LOL. Maybe I should show them a nerd video and it'll help em come around a little better. I know from all the baby snakes, I still have a lot of juveniles, they are way more afraid of us. Any of my snakes that have struck me was because they felt threatened when I had first gotten em. My 10-year-old daughter absolutely loves snakes. I started my collection with a leopard gecko for her and all she wants to do is carry our female normal cornsnake, Ariel. She loves her! Ariel is very chill, she just curls around your fingers and that's it. She'll sit forever with ya. Haha... It's so funny to me when she walks out and shows, say my ex-wife the snake wrapped her on her fingers, only about 6 months old I'd say, and her mom shrieks like a little girl LOL... The little girl is holding the snake and her mother is shrieking it cracks me up. Plus it is my ex-wife so hearing her shriek in fear is oddly satisfying, when I know it's not a rational fear. I don't want her really afraid, it's just so irrational, it's hilarious. I almost lost my leg from two brown recluse bites behind my knee, so I'm not a fan of spiders, I'll be damned if I'm going to squeal when I see one...you said it tho, respect, don't fear. 👍

Kevin, I love watching your medical procedures and the loving care that you have for your reptiles. I’m a 61 year old grandma that loves almost all animals. I’ve had Turtles, lizards, Jackson chameleons, bearded dragons, raised birds, angelfish, betta fish and mice, rats and I’m sure I forgotten a few! Ive never owned a snake however I’ve thought about it a lot! Watching your videos has taught me that at this point in my life, I really don’t need to take on the challenge of caring for another pet that I would need to learn the husbandry of. Thank you for helping me make this decision, I can learn and enjoy all the videos that you share without the responsibility! I have a 4 year old Yorkshire terrier named Jovi! She weighs 4 pounds and is the best little furry baby I could wish for! Thank you again, I look forward to your videos and follow you faithfully! God bless you and all the babes you love and care for. Renee from Illinois. P.s. I have tried, but I cannot overcome my fear of spiders, ANY spiders!

I love the procedure videos - my mum is a vet surgeon who did a C-section on a large female python, she and the male lived free range in the owner's home and she ruptured her womb on the stairs. My mum isn't a reptile specialist but saved her life. She's an old fashioned vet who will always push to give treatment, I can't see anything wrong in how you do procedures. It's clean, disinfected and done without massive delay. Waiting for a specialist appt takes so long and with so many animals it's just not reasonable You do an amazing job, please keep showing us all aspects of it

I really appreciate you sharing your knowledge and care of reptiles. Being a responsible owner means caring for your animals and there isn't alot of knowledge or education out there for reptiles. The more people learn, the better husbandry people can provide. Caring for living creatures means we must learn from mistakes as well as successes. And not judge others who are caring enough to show and share their talents, knowledge and learning processes. I hope more people post words of encouragement because we need teachers like Kevin in this world. He is one of the good guys 💗

Thank you sooooo much for posting these videos! I'm very competent and have medical training, I don't have any vets in my area that deal with "difficult" ball python issues. I got a rescue 3500 lesser female. The prior owner said her left lower jaw was deformed at birth. She was still eating. After 6 months of having her, her lower right jaw swelled up. Turns out she has cysts. My kids assited me with the surgery. We removed over 60 cysts from 2 pockets in her mouth over an hour and a half. That was 2 months ago. She's fully rehealed and doing great! We got a 2nd snake from the same person, adult male Pastel YB 900 GRAMS. Same issue. Unfortunately his cysts are on his upper jaw on the upper "bone" where his teeth are. I don't think we're going to be able to get all of his cysts out. He's still eating and growing fine. We also built 2 ICU boxes like in your last video! We have holes cut in to pipe in a fogger to fog them with F10 and antibiotics. Cured 3/4 RI's! The 1 is back in for a 2nd round! A lot of people told me, "Dude, just cull them." Nah they deserve a chance at a happy healthy life. They provide for me by breeding and laying eggs, I owe it to them to try and give them a chance and good health. If it wasn't for your recent videos, Those 2 snakes would be in the freezer. You saved the lives of 2 snakes! Thanks NERD!!!!! Lastly, we need to NORMALIZE talking openly about illness and sickness in our animals and ways to successfully and safely treat them. Not confronting these illnesses and issues pushes them into the darkness ans villanizes anyone who asks for help. Imagine how bad the AIDS pandemic would have gotten if we wouldn't have normalized talking about it publicly......

Kevin, and all of NERD really...I value, typed that wrong, VALUE your videos for the knowledge you share. I watch a lot of other reptile keepers and while they do share some items of proper health, it is no where near the depth you all go to. In short, I do not want you to feel that anyone should try to discourage you from sharing these bits of information. It very well could help other keepers save a life. I don't want to take away from good vets either, some of them are very good. Where I am, we don't have a vet that can take care of reptiles, so again, the information you share is golden. Lastly, the amount of content to me is if little concern. I watch to hear the message. That said, I love to see the great animals on here as well, but that's second place, not first. Keep doing what you do, and always be proud of it. Every one of you at NERD, keep your heads up, love you all!

I found your channel through Clint's Reptiles, when I had my first ball python and was struggling to interact with her in a way that wouldn't completely stress her out. I wasn't making any progress, and the poor thing was terrified of absolutely everything. I rescued her from a crappy pet store situation and I think she was really overstimulated there. I tried holding her above my head and giving her a chance to chill out, and it made all the difference in the world. She's still a little skittish and snappy sometimes, but so much more relaxed and easier to handle now. My point is, please make as many educational videos as you possibly can 😆 there are plenty of nerds (haha) out there who really want to learn as much as we can, so we can take the best possible care of our animals. I find these medical videos very informative I'm not a vet or anything but learning how to treat things that your typical vet might not understand cause they don't deal with these types of animals on a regular basis is very informative and knowing how to do it yourself could save the animals life if you didn't have an exotic vet nearby. Not discrediting veterinarians by any means they do an amazing job. Much love and so glad they are doing ok and I can't wait to see that beautiful snake's babies when they hatch. I love seeing the medical situations. They are occurrences that could happen to anyone. Learning the potential causes and preventions is great. I never plan to operate on my reptiles, but it is good to know what the procedure they will need to undergo is and the proper way to rehabilitate them. Love the content, keep being awesome.

I love your knowledge of reptiles and how you show us all how to help them. Also, your conservation videos have inspired me to do more! I’m getting ready to get my first reptile because of the knowledge you’ve given me and I no longer fear snakes because of you. Thank you for everything and screw the haters!!!!

I'm new to the channel and have been binge watching all the medical videos and I appreciate them so much. I will be applying to vet school in the next couple years, so I have been working at a vet hospital for experience, but your videos have made things so much clearer than the vets at the hospital could. I feel like I'm finally understanding what certain medicines do and what some commonly used terms actually mean. With vets, I think sometimes these things become so commonplace to them that they forget to explain them. Please continue showing this side of keeping your collection!

When I first started with reptiles I went of what the breeder told me. Then my snake got mites, and I found Kevin on RU-vid, doing a video on treating mites, and the way he explained it, with no judgement and explained it with passion, next thing I’m subscribed, down a rabbit hole watching nerd vids, absorbing so much information. I’ve gained so much knowledge and confidence. Thank you Kevin and crew, please keep up the medical vids etc. just keep doing your thing guys. Share the passion.

Kevin, I don't have any reptiles, because I dont have the place nor the money to keep a reptile happy and healthy so I don't buy one. But I love your channel and I adore you doing vet stuff. I asked my vet if she ever did reptiles... nope. So lots of vets even treat a reptile before... you are for years in reptilebusiness... and you have more experience and knowledge then the usual vet. If I would have a reptile, I would have more confidence in you than a vet with a lot of bulls and diplomas on the walls. So people who criticize you are dumb and talk before to getting to know you. I am an icu nurse and everything you do is legit... you are doing the profession good. There are nurses and doctors that don't even take as much precautions like you do. You are working sterile and professional. You rule man... 😍

Please film as many of these procedures as you are willing or comfortable enough in filming, it's extremely interesting, I've learned a lot from you Kevin and its greatly appreciated. I realize the internet is out of control right now but know there are people like me out here who just want knowledge from highly respected and knowledgable keepers. Thanks again Kevin and NERD you guys are awesome! My male Blackhead GHI that I bought from you is doing awesome and I love the heck out of him!

I love listening to and learning from you, Kevin!! Reptile keepers need to turn to this channel right now for your vast amount of knowledge , especially since vets a lot of them anyway don't specialize or know reptiles at all even if they are open right now. Wishing you and the crew at NERD happiness, safety from Coronavirus and its variants, and a lot of successful reptile breeding, etc.!!!

I absolutely love your medical videos. It's very educational and I'm not even a keeper of reptiles (...yet). I've been watch your videos for about a year now and I do really love your verity of types of videos. The ones that really feature Kevin and his expertise are by far my favorite. I would say it would be nice to see some more resent videos about the extent of everything you do at Nerd. I feel like I've seen better tour videos by other youtubers that visit your facility that really showcase the extent of what all you do in your facility.

Please keep doing the medical troubleshooting! It is so helpful and insightful. I've had issues with my reptiles and taken them to vets who have refused service because they've never treated skinks, etc before even though they are "exotic" vets. Having the knowledge to do basic troubleshooting is extremely helpful. Just knowing the ideal products to use that are reptile safe is valuable. Thank you and keep it up!

Been researching and keeping ball pythons for 5 years now, and just found you this year. The caliber of your knowledge is the best I've found so far. I have to say I love all the videos you make from surgery to socializing. I've learned more from your channel then any other channel. I like to feel that I'm wiser then I was before I watched you. Please continue doing procedures and updates at the end of the day it is a reality and anyone who believes that your animals are jacked are irrelevant because when you have a huge collection these things happen. We need more people like Kevin who is out here trying to educate and spread awareness. He is teaching us and showing us what I means to care for your animals and so knowledgeable.
